Tesco have changed the non bio washing powder :(

This was the only one we aren't all allergic to and I am gutted. It smells horrible, they have added a load of perfume and bleaching agents and that means it is now off the shrunken list of safe products for us.

Life with random allergies is hard to explain to those who can wear any perfume or use any shampoo without giving it a thought but honestly I just wish companies would stop messing with formulas and breaking things that worked just fine.

All of the good shower gels, soaps, etc that we rely on and have used happily for decades have vanished in the last 5 years - it's madness.

Oo no Sad have you tried the eco laundry sheets? They are mostly completely scent free and I doubt they have bleach in.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 02/06/2024 16:59

Have you tried m&s non bio liquid? My skin is very sensitive to laundry detergent and it's fine for me. It's also not hugely expensive

Try Surcare washing powder it's completely scent free.

EasterMeg · 02/06/2024 17:00

The winning point to powder was being able to only use a tiny amount so less chance of reaction, that is possible with sheets cut up I suppose but a bit fiddly?

I've found I can also tolerate their scented one after DH picked it up by accident it's only very lightly fragranced.
FWIW I use a lot of their cleaning products now, usually plant derived rather than harsh chemicals and much cheaper than method/ecover

Surcare also has bleaching agents but the website doesn't say what % so not sure about that.

When I lived in the UK I used Filetti, but I couldn't get it in Ireland hence trying other options.

bluecomputerscreen · 02/06/2024 17:04

yanbu
the writing 'new improved' on bottles makes me itch.

no help with regards to laundry powder I have found using the long cotton cycle and an extra rinse most effective. live in forrin where non bio isn't easily available.

EasterMeg · 02/06/2024 17:04

Thanks for these suggestions, I will have to buy a selection and experiment!

One of the biggest problems is that an allergic reaction can take a bit of time to show up so you think something is ok then it reacts with something else and skin flare ups can take weeks to die down.

Ingredients for the m&S sensitive one

My go to emergency backup wash for clothes used to always be baby shampoo but it doesn't wash brilliantly and has also been changed recently to a much harsher formula.

That M&S one looks like a good contender, I will start with that, thank you!

The other one would be ecover 0 which is what I used to use, but it's expensive, it's what convinced me to try the m&S one

EasterMeg · 02/06/2024 17:09

I have always struggled with any ecover products, they just don't like me!

fairy non-bio liquid (not in the pods but the bottle) is good.

EasterMeg · 02/06/2024 17:13

I sympathise on the food product messing, it must be of extreme concern when you are trying to make sure a restrictive diet contains all the essentials for a growing kid. Sugar substitutes have ruined a huge number of foods for us.

I tried fairy non bio last about a decade ago and it was dramatic, have they changed the formula since?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/06/2024 17:23

I briefly tried Fairy non-bio, also about a decade ago. We had to rewash everything as we were all itchy and I gave away the box.

I have no idea as I wasn't a user a decade ago. I developed an allergy to main stream detergents and cycled through many different types of bio with no joy but tried fairy non-bio and it was fine for me.

Depends what you are allergic to I suppose!

Bumpinthenight · 02/06/2024 18:42

We've used fairy non-bio for rb last ten years or so and DD doesn't react to it. She did with fairy bio.
Not tried persil.

So expensive having to do test runs! Can you borrow a couple of loads worth of each from someone?!

Celestiel · 02/06/2024 18:52

Ive had similar issues but it seems to be related to the amount of water/rinsing the machine does on the cycle - we got a new 'eco friendly' machine, uses less water on the default setting... so things weren't being rinsed off enough. Every batch of DS clothing needs water+ setting, and tumble dried if possible as outside the clothing picks up all sorts of pollen at this time of year!

guineverehadgreeneyes · 02/06/2024 19:39

Looks like Tesco has changed their bio for coloured wash, too. Have not been able to get it for weeks. The replacement is highly perfumed.

Weallnamechangesometimes · 02/06/2024 19:42

Oh no this was on our safe lift and reasonably priced.
