How much would you spend on alcohol on a day out?

Meeting a friend for drinks today in Durham
She asked how much money I was bringing ??(I was like well I haven't got specific money I'm just bringing my bank card but won't be spending more than £100)
She then said only £100
I thought just for drinks without any food that would be enough
I'm not spending more than £100 on drinks
Is this not a normal amount ?
I was thinking a couple of cocktails and a few gins won't be more than £100

I would think £100 was enough for some day time drinks. Cocktails are £10 -£15 maybe 🤔
But I am middle aged, and teetotal so am likely wrong 😅

Whatever 2 Pints cost for me

£30? Surely thats enough. How many will you drink? I dont drink alcohol so a bit out of the game but they cant be that expensive!

PricklyPearNoThornsPlease · 02/06/2024 09:53

Normally £0 because I tend to be driving.

But if I was going out specifically for drinks I wouldn’t spend more than £50. I don’t drink cocktails or fancy gin, though.

Moier · 02/06/2024 09:57

Blimey .. £100 for a day out?
Glad l don't drink.

tulipsunday · 02/06/2024 09:58

£100 would be loads in my opinion unless you are planning on necking bottles of champagne!

Same.

It depends. I spent £5 on alcohol yesterday when out with friends, if I'm with dh we might share a bottle of wine so about £25? I wouldn't get close to £100.

Berlinlover · 02/06/2024 10:06

That seems like a lot of money but I don’t drink so what would I know.

lljkk · 02/06/2024 10:06

Ruddy heck, about £15 is my max budget. I do like booze, but only enjoy alcohol in small amounts & it's so over-priced to buy in pubs or restaurants.

CandiedPrincess · 02/06/2024 10:07

Bottle of wine? £25-30 is what I'd budget for drinks. Cocktails - price seems to be creeping up, and there's a lot less liquid so I'd probably have 3-4 and that could be about £12-17, so I'd budget more if cocktail drinking.

Menomeno · 02/06/2024 10:09

I’d want a meal too for £100! I wouldn’t drink more than 3 or 4 glasses of wine on a day out.

RumpleDumple · 02/06/2024 10:14

£100 for alcoholic drinks only is loads! I drink wine, £10 a glass in a nice bar - that would be over 3 bottles! I'd be in A&E after that. £100 for me would cover lunch, a coffee or two and soft drinks.

TheThingIsYeah · 02/06/2024 10:17

25 years ago a tenner would have covered it. Now it's knocking on £50 and I'm not even tipsy. It's not just the price of drinks but I tend to find that those who say "I'll only have a coke / Peroni Zero" don't seem to understand that they're not given away by pubs for free. Quite the opposite, they're more expensive per ml than a pint. So I end up spending 50 sovs on a night out and I'm like great, I've had 3 pints. Hence I rarely bother anymore.

LaPalmaLlama · 02/06/2024 10:18

Yeah that seems loads, especially if you're not eating, unless you're buying v expensive wine. Honestly, for a casual day drink with a friend I'd probably be drinking nothing over 40 a bottle (bar prices) so I'd get plenty of change out of 100 as I wouldn't drink more than a bottle over several hours. I probably would get some snacky bits as well though realistically (humous and pita, fries, etc).

GentlemanJohnny · 02/06/2024 10:18

£15 - £25 would be my amount depending on what other activities were planned.

Sue152 · 02/06/2024 10:20

I'd be on the floor after £100 + worth of booze!

If you're not much a drinker, then maybe. But £30 is only 2 or 3 cocktails or 3 or 4 vodka and cokes in somewhere like a Wetherspoons. And if you're going out specially for drinks it wouldn't be enough.

Singleandproud · 02/06/2024 10:22

I would not be spending £100 on drinks ever, maybe £20 as I'm not a big drinker and tend to just have SoCo and lemonade or a fruity cider. Where were you going, a very posh hotel and expensive drinks could easily be £150 a glass - but I wouldn't be visiting places like that.

StandardSize14 · 02/06/2024 10:22

I wouldn't set a budget unless I knew specifically where I was going but I'm thinking £8 glass of wine x 3 plus two cocktails £30 then a few soft drinks in between £15, kebab £15

£100 sounds about right to me!

InTheRainOnATrain · 02/06/2024 10:23

Weird conversation for 2 adults! I haven’t had the ‘how much money do you have for drinks’ conversation since I left 6th form… But £100 is loads though?? That would get you 6 fancy £15 cocktails that are probably 2-3 shots each! Or about 3 average priced bottles of wine in a restaurant. Unless your mate only drinks vintage champagne I’d be incoherent after I blew through that much money.

Floralnomad · 02/06/2024 10:24

£0

Momstermunch · 02/06/2024 10:24

Depends where you're going surely? You could kill yourself in wetherspoons with that amount of money. If you're going to some fancy roof top bar in a city centre to drink cocktails, that's probably the right amount.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 02/06/2024 10:24

Last week pre-dinner drinks, dinner and post dinner drinks came to £75. Too much booze tbh, but no cocktails.
