I smoke about 20 per day.

Where did you get them?

Online pharmacy. I had to fill out a questionnaire and then you can buy. I paid £70 for a month's worth (which was all I needed) expensive but cheaper than a month's cigarettes!

That was my thread 😁

Happy to report that 13 months later I still haven't picked up a cigarette, hell will freeze over before I do! I still vape but that will go at some point too

Hello 👋
Thank you! You actually changed my life!

I had a TIA 3 months ago.
I started smoking aged 12, never stopped for any length of time apart from with a tablet that isn't available anymore.
I am now a richer vaper. I bought a rechargeable refillable one and use tobacco flavoured liquid.

I'm saving about £14 a day.

NattyTurtle · 08/06/2024 06:52

Vaping was the only thing which worked for my DH. He had quit before but always went back. My GF gave up cold turkey in his 80s!

Crunchymum · 08/06/2024 07:23

I read the Allen Carr book (he has two, I read the original) 13 years ago and I've never so much has had another pull of a cigarette. I never had any cravings or any blips.

I was smoking 15 / 20 a day and had smoked for 15 years.

Same for me. Same book and same amount of time since I stopped!

Wish44 · 08/06/2024 07:24

I just kept trying… had probably given up and started again about 7 times before I was successful.

however even when I gave up I still had the odd one socially and then I got pregnant. That really helped. Haven’t had one since eldest is 11 now.

wouldn’t have one now if you paid me. I hate the smell and can’t believe I wasted so much time/money on it… but that’s addiction for you.

good luck op and just try your best. You will get there in the end

My dad has not stopped smoking. He is just seeing how long he can go without a cigarette. He's at about 47 years.

It's a good way because it is a positive thing and you can start with just an hour, and then an hour and 15 mins.

Shade17 · 08/06/2024 08:17

The Allen Carr book, it was much easier than expected.

idontknowaboutyou · 08/06/2024 08:42

I smoked for 15 years. I went to see a hypnotherapist when I was in my mid twenties (two sessions) and it was amazing I instantly didn't want to smoke but a couple years later I decided I could handle social smoking and ended up being a smoker again. Then a few years after I decided I would stop when I was thirty. I turned thirty in December, finished the year . Finished my last packet on New Year's Day and never smoked again. That was twenty years ago.

Yirk · 08/06/2024 08:45

Cold turkey, picked the date I was stopping, did it 18 years ago, best thing I ever did.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/06/2024 08:53

I can’t say I recommend my method - pneumonia and pleurisy, 3 weeks in hospital, over a year ago now.
I wish I could say I hate the smell of fags, though - now and then I dream of trying to buy some!

HauntedPencil · 08/06/2024 09:08

I used Tabex from Amazon - it helps but as someone who was on and off for years (and a real addict) you've just got to pick a time when you feel really really committed to stop. Haven't touched one in 6 years now.

HauntedPencil · 08/06/2024 09:09

I've given up in the past on Allen Carr, Campix and hypnotherapy. All were great but I just went back on (mainly as younger and often going out) feeling like I could handle being a social smoker and actually can not!

Aussiegold · 08/06/2024 09:13

Allen Carr book for me as well, I think it is just coming up on 20 years fag free!

Well I’m on day 1!

I have very little willpower, and am also not good with denial of things. My approach was to challenge myself and see how long I could go without one. First I tried 24 hours. Then 48 hours, then 72 hours, then a week, then a month.

After that it wasn't so hard, and I'm at 30 years now.

Allen Car's Easyway to Stop Smoking book and group

OpenRoadYeehaw · 08/06/2024 17:41

Champix. Took a couple of months of skipping up at weekends until it finally stuck.

bizzey · 11/06/2024 11:27

Can I ask anyone who has used Alan Carr...which book did you use ?

There are 3 of them on Amazon !

Samedaysameshit · 11/06/2024 11:37

Nicotine chewing gum.
I needed to be doing something so chewing was good. I became addicted to that instead and chewed that for two years! Still better than smoking.
i then went onto normal chewing gum and weirdly would get really stressed out if I ran out of that. After another year of frantically chewing I stopped that too.

Thursa · 11/06/2024 12:49

Had such a bad hangover I couldn’t face smoking. Then decided to see how long I could go without. I’m about 27 years now. I will admit, I still miss smoking.

I did crochet an entire double bed sized blanket in the first few days to keep my hands busy…

I started in my teens .. about 14 gave up age 18
and havnt looked back … this was 1981 … no support with the withdrawal but my brother had smoked also and had an asthma attack and this was a massive wake up call … I was difficult but I saved the money I didn’t burn and I didn’t smell of fag ash … and I just felt so much better but I want to help others
nicotine has got all sorts of poisons in it …
but I’m not judging …. If i can do it and I was a a 40 a day girl then …. I know anybody can ….
I went cold Zzz put on weight and lost it again with weight watchers in 1981 …
but I still remember it all
vividly ….
the money I saved was amazing … I bought my self things for my teen bedroom at the time .. and perfume … I smelt gorge and not of smoke 😊 … im
happy to be of any inspiration if anybody wants advice from my experience 😊

viques · 10/01/2025 11:11

I gave up many years ago by replacing my need for nicotine with my need for Mars bars! I swear I wore a groove in the road crossing from work to the sweetie shop. It worked - though to be fair I also needed to give up for financial reasons! But beware, the Mars bar habit was harder to break than the nicotine.

I don’t understand how anyone affords to smoke these days, I was shocked when I realised how much ( legal) cigarettes cost.
