What age child wrote this ?

I recognise it is a wide spectrum but just wondering what the average thoughts are, am wondering if my sons age is consistent with his writing ability.

I don't help him with the spellings, as the school wish for him to use the Phonics sound to spell.

What age child wrote this ?

4 or 5 years old.

BlossomValley · 29/05/2024 17:56

Reception - 4 or 5 years old.

Standingupstandingout · 29/05/2024 17:56

I'd say one of the eldest and/or more able in reception or someone slightly behind in y1

Fieldings15 · 29/05/2024 17:57

i know a 5 year old (reception) who couldn’t write that. 6 or 7? I think it does vary quite a bit the first few years of school, from what I’ve seen.

Reception

Bear in mind it is nearly the end of the school year so this is not necessarily one of the more able Reception children. The use of the ee sound is good but not above average.

Comedycook · 29/05/2024 17:58

4/5

WeightoftheWorld · 29/05/2024 17:59

I'd say reception or year 1 because there's such a big range of ability. That looks similar to my reception age child's writing, but she is the oldest in the year and in a mostly yr 1 phonics group (just saying that for some context).

DrRichardWebber · 29/05/2024 17:59

One of the younger year 1 kids. Some letter formation is beautiful, the ‘d’ in ‘daddy’ is better than my 6 year old year 1 daughter who has generally good handwriting.

I would guess reception. But kids vary hugely so could easily be younger or older and still within the realm of what's "normal".

fieldsofbutterflies · 29/05/2024 18:01

I'd say four or five years old.

NoTicket · 29/05/2024 18:01

It looks like something my Yr1 would produce - one of the youngest in the year and just turned 6

Goneback2school · 29/05/2024 18:02

Having seen my 5yo nieces handwriting this week I'd say Reception aged.

Shinyandnew1 · 29/05/2024 18:02

I would say Reception.

reception

KnickerlessFlannel · 29/05/2024 18:03

I would agree reception age given my daughter's work during lockdown in terms of handwriting. I would expect spellings to be slightly further forwards by this point in reception but dd was lucky for remembering spellings so didn't often rely on 'phoenitcal correctness', so I might be wrong on that count. What does their report say?

AnneOfCleavage · 29/05/2024 18:03

I just showed my trainee teacher DD who is teaching in year 4 at the moment (age 8/9) and she says a lot of her kids' handwriting is like that but obviously she's seen children in reception with writing like that too so I wouldn't be surprised what age you say he is. I would have guessed year 1 or 2.

ChangeAgain2 · 29/05/2024 18:03

I would say year 1. My DC isn't yet at this level. Their work was used at parents evening to show an example of exceeding expectations in a written task.

CandyLeBonBon · 29/05/2024 18:04

I think the handwriting is very neat/legible for a 4/5 year old. I'd say 6/7

GrandHighPoohbah · 29/05/2024 18:04

Five years old.

ALunchbox · 29/05/2024 18:04

Reception or year 1
