Having buyers remorse over Kitchenaid - tell me it’s worth it!

It’s such a lot of money, but I do cook and bake loads and the thought of not having to hand knead bread swayed me.

Tell me you love yours so I don’t have a panic and think I’ve wasted £400

I've had mine for around 10 years and I still love and use it just as much as I did then. It's a miracle worker for cakes, it's completely changed my baking. I was very boring though and bought a dark grey - every time I see a lovely pastel one I want to change it Grin

Ineffable23 · 27/05/2024 20:24

It's not a KitchenAid but my parents Kenwood has been going since the 1960s. Mine has been since the 1980s.

So as long as they're repairable, which I think they're now obligated to be, then you should get your money's worth just from a longevity perspective.

I love ours. We've made pizza dough (a flipping doddle - impossible for me by hand!)
Chapatis (super easy and very easy to cook on the pan)
Cakes - perfection
I use it between once to seven or eight times a month depending on whatever! 🤣
I love it. And look forward to many more years of easy mixing! Enjoy ☺️

madmumofteens · 27/05/2024 20:25

I've had mine for 11 years I love it still looks as good as new ☺️

CountingCrones · 27/05/2024 20:27

In 25 years when you're bunging cake ingredients in it at the last minute for a grandchild's birthday, you'll thank yourself for the purchase now.

SandDuner · 27/05/2024 20:27

We’ve had ours for 16 years. Never regretted it. Baking and making bread? It’s perfect for you.

Chypre · 27/05/2024 20:30

I certainly don't regret mine and over time have accumulated multiple spare bowls and attachments. Making Pavlova is such a breeze now! From cakes to pizza and even pasta, everything is much easier.

Cadela · 27/05/2024 20:32

Thank you all so much! Now I’m excited.

What are the best attachments to get for it?

Mine is 13 (same age as DD ;)) and I use it almost daily. Haven’t grated anything by hand since then!!!

Boater · 27/05/2024 20:34

Joining as I don’t think I’ve made the most of mine but every time I see it it makes me very happy.

Would love some hints and tips

It took me a while to love mine. I started with a cheap Aldi plastic mixer, that did everything I wanted, wasn’t heavy to lift, and had a great splatter guard.

I don’t think the kitchen aid was as good as I expected for what I paid. The splatter guard is a joke. I don’t like the weight when I’m lifting it, but I do when I’m kneading bread. It wasn’t set quite low enough when I got it but once I realised I could adjusted it, it’s been fine.

I’m trying to avoid planned obsolescence, so from that point of view it’s a good investment. But honestly I’m still on the fence.

Also love mine. Great for cakes, tray bakes, cookies sort of thing. But I feel it really earns its place in the kitchen for breads, meringue, buttercream… which are made so so much easier with a kitchenaid.

I have the pasta roller attachment, which I adore, and the shaved ice one which I got for Christmas and am really enjoying on warm days.

somethingisnotquiteright · 27/05/2024 20:41

But they're so pretty 😍
Mine is like a piece of art in my kitchen that I admire daily..
I use it a fair bit too, but mainly admire.

@Theothername I came on to comment that we've been disappointed as it just misses the bottom of the bowl so end up having to faff and run a pallet knife around the bottom between mixes so all ingredients get mixed.

How do you adjust it?? This will be a game changer as the faffing puts me off using it as much as I would like to!

SleepingisanArt · 27/05/2024 20:51

Hated the kitchenaid so much I returned it! A lot of the attachments are not dishwasher proof (including the ones aimed at a professional kitchen). I have a 30 year old kenwood which is still going strong and I also have my Mums one which is from the early 60s and works like a dream - in fact it looks better than mine as it hasn't had such a hard life! (Mine spent a few years in a restaurant kitchen because they hated the kitchenaid which was in their kitchen!!)

Busybusybusy · 27/05/2024 20:57

Absolutely love mine, had it for c12 years and still as good as new! As well as cakes and bread dough, also use for pancake mix….and mashed potato (no more lumpy mash!) definitely not wasted money, and they also look fab in the kitchen!

I stroke mine. It’s such a lovely thing.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 27/05/2024 21:13

Can you adjust it? Like a PP, I'm always disappointed which how much batter is at the bottom and needs to be scraped in.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 27/05/2024 21:14

I love mine. I make a lot of bread and my wrists aren’t up to kneading 😂

I bought a kenwood food processor and it’s rubbish. Will replace with kitchen aid then it dies

LaMariposa · 27/05/2024 21:15

I love mine. I picked up a grater/slicer accessory set, and the strainer set second hand. I buy huge blocks of cheese to grate, make homemade coleslaw, as well as breads and cakes. Gets used at least weekly.

DillyDeclutter · 27/05/2024 21:17

I asked for a Kitchen Aid for Christmas some years ago, DH bought a Which Best Buy Kenwood instead. I dislike it intensely. It's just fundamentally not what I asked for, but also has some irritating features.

I do think it takes time to make friends with a new kitchen aid but if you find you can't, please send it to me. I will look after it.

I have a KitchenAid Food Pricessor (onyx) I got a decent size about 3l (they don't make them now )
Love it , much much better than the old Kenwood I had

Epictantrum · 27/05/2024 21:22

The beater with rubber trim also helps

DiscoBeat · 27/05/2024 21:25

I've been so tempted but decided to get this one instead as it's currently reduced from £315 to £99 and has good reviews.
