"female" models

I was looking at a skirt online recently, a household name, & was taken aback by the model.

No boobs, no waist, big feet, & a very dark shadow on the top lip.

I get fed up with their questionnaires about what sex/gender I "identify" with, but I really think this is going too far.

Sure. Let’s judge models appearances and scrutinise facial features.

TheWavey · 27/05/2024 19:53

Hmm. I know what you mean. It’s all a bit shoved down throats at the moment. I do sigh when companies designing and selling womenswear pander to men.

I generally don’t have too much of an issue with clothes though. Clothes are clothes.
I save my energy for “people who menstruate”, “cervix owners” and other such bullshit.

Canadan · 27/05/2024 19:53

Couldn’t care less about this. Men wearing clothes which are traditionally worn by women (and vice versa) is fine with me. Don't think it has anything to do with GC concerns re trans ideology.

songaboutjam · 27/05/2024 19:58

If someone with a male physique models a skirt or dress, said skirt or dress will probably not fit well on a woman because our anatomy and proportions (especially vital things like hip width) are different. Surely you'd want to cater to your primary consumer base? It seems like an odd business decision.

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 27/05/2024 20:00

I just roll my eyes and go shop somewhere else. It absolutely is to do with gender ideology and I don’t want it shoved down my throat every two seconds.

I had the same experience the day before yesterday! I scrutinised as I had an odd response to the photos. Nothing strong but, instead of making me think "That's nice, how would it suit me? Does it have pockets?" I was going "Huh?!"

So I clicked off the site. @lightinthebox, fashion photos are there to be scrutinised! I'll be buying from retailers whose pictures demonstrate clothes for women instead of demonstrating their right-on-ness.

I noticed they had very few black models and no disabled ones. So much for diversity & inclusion.

JellySaurus · 27/05/2024 20:06

Why would I buy from them? It's hard enough to visualise what clothes would look like on my size 16/18 body, when they are modelled by a size 10 woman. At least she, like me, has hips, bum, breasts. How on earth am I to visualise what clothes would look like on when they are modelled by a man? I'd look at that and think the clothes were designed for a flat-chested, narrow-hipped, wide-shouldered, long-armed body, and would therefore not fit me and my female curves, no matter how scaled up the sizing.

Lucy and Yak use both male and female models. They show their unisex trousers on slim women, large women, and men. Perfect.

kitsuneghost · 27/05/2024 20:26

Non issue. It's only showing clothes on a model. It's not like a cis female is going to be the same height and have the same body type as everyone looking at the page anyway.

Did you mean WOMAN ♀️?

No I meant cis woman to differentiate from trans woman. In context this is the correct term.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 27/05/2024 20:40

You don’t need tits to wear a skirt…

Bollocks it is.

CocoapuffPuff · 27/05/2024 20:43

If it fits a bloke, it's not going to fit me.

BCBird · 27/05/2024 20:43

It annoys me. Found some great trainers- unusual for me as am a size 9 only to find men are being used to model.women's sportswear in this company. Winds me up. Back to the hunt for decent women's trainers

The correct terms are women and men.

Just woman will do. I'm not a subset of my own sex.

BCBird · 27/05/2024 20:45

What percentage of the population is trans? Surely disabled people are a bigger percentage? They are not represented proportionally in adverts etc

Please don't use the slur cis.

But the OP is talking about bodies, there are only male and female. If the clothes are for women it is not unreasonable to show them on women's bodies as opposed to men's bodies. Bit like marketing dog food by showing a cat eating it - cat may well identify as a dog but it tells a potential customer nowt about how tasty their dog might find it. It will confuse and alienate the female customer but they may corner the miniscule market of trans identifying men which is fine - but they won't survive as a business. Clarity in identifying the market is everything.

"Cis-female"?

TheWavey · 27/05/2024 21:00

Cis 🤮🤮🤮

HarryPottersScar · 27/05/2024 21:03

My issue (beyond the fact that the male model would not have the right physique) is that, once again it's a man taking a job that should have gone to a woman. Sigh.

JellySaurus · 27/05/2024 21:04

How do you know the model was trans?

The term woman signifies an adult human female. Cis=bollocks. Which, by the way, only transwmen have.

No woman wants to buy a skirt modelled by a prick with a dick.
If it looks good on them then it's not for women
