.. bemoaning the standards of dress at his restaurants. He's complaining that people wear casual clothing, joggers, hoodies etc. I like to dress up to go out to dine, but what do others think?.

I long ago reached the point in life where if I can't go in shorts, a t-shirt and trainers, I don't go.

Sure, I lived in Asia a long time but even in the UK, I'm in shorts from about March to November.

@likethislikethat

what about a wedding? Would you try to turn up to a wedding in shorts and t shirt

LuckySantangelo35 · 29/05/2024 10:18

BIWI · 29/05/2024 07:52

LOL!
This is such a silly thing to say.

@BIWI

i dunno, I deffo feel better in myself if I’ve made a bit of an effort, and more confident

BlueFlowers5 · 29/05/2024 10:19

I don’t go is the part that applies here. Right there in the comment.

@Funnywonder

ok! Just seems a bit restrictive to only go places where you can wear shorts and t shirt.

I'm guessing that must also apply to funerals as well?

No idea.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/05/2024 10:52

Funerals are really casual now, I've been to far too many over the last few years and really just clean and tidy and nothing outrageous seems to be name of the game now.

Maybe not shorts but I've been to funerals where people have worn jeans and trainers. I think it's more important that people turn up rather than what they wear tbh.

Funnywonder · 29/05/2024 11:08

Yes I certainly do. But the person who said they didn't go anywhere that they couldn't wear shorts, wasn't me.

It's open to debate. I personally think that what you wear doesn't just reflect your taste and style but how you view what you are attending or participating in.
A job interview, wedding, funeral etc would require different clothing from shopping, dog walking, house cleaning etc. imo.

Yes, sure. If it’s either or. Personally I’d always make an effort to dress appropriately for a funeral. And that would not be fronting up in jeans and trainers. But if thay was the only option for the attendee then yes it is better they are there. But it is not common that’s the case, so feel you’re arguing extremes.

I agree with you. Personal grooming and presentation tells a story about us to the world. Whether some posters like it or not. In many cases a certain dress code is expected. In others it’s about respect. For ourselves first and foremost.

I'm really not. It's very common with Irish funerals where men come from work and then go straight back to work.

Anyway, Gordon Ramsay didn't impress my dad, he went for Christmas lunch years ago and was so disappointed and hungry when he got home he put a frozen pizza in the oven. You've only got to mention his name and dad starts ranting 🤣

He did dress up btw, he's very much of the thinking you dress up smartly.

KateDelRick · 29/05/2024 11:30

I've been to many an Irish funeral, in rural parts. Never come across that - maybe it's a different part of Ireland?
My aunties would have something to say about anyone who turned up at Holy Mass, never mind a Requiem not properly turned out!

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

thats crazy! No one needs to eat a pizza after going out for a meal even if the portions are small

PurpleWhiteGreen123 · 29/05/2024 11:44

In London, mostly no. Unless it's an über-swanky spot in a five star hotel.

Outside of London I at least do not wear jeans or joggers. A pair of trousers and a nice top, usually.

Very common to turn up at mass in jeans and trainers - even back in the day I went over 40 years ago. Maybe people raised eyebrows and maybe they should have been more focused on praying than judging.

Yes, people do judge what you wear.
What you wear isn't to keep you covered up or warm, it says a lot about you and how you respond to whatever occasion.

Yes and judging others on appearance says a lot about you too!😁

Yes, I judge people on what they wear. To a Requiem Mass, to a wedding, to an interview.
I think folks are lying if they don't.

Everybody judges. They don't always say it out loud but everybody has something they judge other for.

Not in Ireland, Irish funerals in the UK, sorry, I wasn't clear.
