Friend not been in touch for 2 and a half years suddenly has a "business opportunity" for me?

listsandbudgets · 26/05/2024 13:52

She sent a text message late last night saying she had a great opportunity for me and I could make hundreds of pounds every month for only a few hours work.

I've replied saying I'm too busy for any more work and she's replied telling me to at least give it a try and to give her a ring to discuss.

I'd think it was MLM but all of her social media profiles seem relatively normal - no hint of a sudden desire to off load over priced wax melts or mascara or weird health drinks...

So what else could it be? I'm sure it's too good to be true Grin

If you think she’s been hacked then I definitely would let her know.

Most people would at least ask how you’ve been.

DrJonesIpresume · 26/05/2024 17:55

Please find out OP, we're all on tenterhooks now... 😂

listsandbudgets · 26/05/2024 14:23

I will probably ignore it....

Can't believe I'm turning down the chance to be a billionaire boss babe living my best life... swanning off on all expenses paid holiday in my Merc...

Suppose I'd better peel the potatoes for dinner and accept my lot Grin

I'm really jealous now! I want become a billionaire boss babe myself travelling to exotic places😁

ALongHardWinter · 26/05/2024 18:12

I would just ignore her. Hopefully she'll soon give up if you don't respond.

listsandbudgets · 26/05/2024 18:29

@NasiDagang Shall I give her your phone number?

My money's on utility warehouse.

Polishedshoesalways · 26/05/2024 19:21

I would let her know too.

DrJonesIpresume · 26/05/2024 19:29

If this is such a marvellous business opportunity, how come she's telling other people about it instead of keeping it all to herself?

...oh yeah... she only earns money if you earn it for her, I remember now. 😂

You can buy Tupperware type products in supermarkets now. You don't need to hold a party 'Fantastic' though they were...🤔

IAmThe1AndOnly · 26/05/2024 14:05

mlm or she’s been hacked and it’s a scam.

Just what I thought too.

If not, simply ignore. Tell her it's been a while and you hope everything is alright. Then ignore whenever she (If it's really her or not) brings up the biz.

Noseybookworm · 26/05/2024 22:39

Utility Warehouse? My friend's brother does it and she says it's like a cult 😂

listsandbudgets · 28/05/2024 11:32

She's not replied to my Facebook message 😒

Now you know who she is. Block her, she isn’t a friend.

pinkfondu · 28/05/2024 11:37

Just block there's no name cause it's a mass text

She's not replied to my Facebook message 😒

She might not have had time to reply because she's too busy doing business things and telling people about opportunities. Give her time.

CruCru · 28/05/2024 12:58

Even if this were real (and not a MLM pile of shit), it would be incredibly rude to get in touch with someone you haven’t seen for years and tell them that you know a way they can make more money.

listsandbudgets · 30/05/2024 08:54

She's not replied but sje has read my messageand if shed been hacked id have expectedsome reply unless tjeyve got control of her facebook too. maybe she's busy recruiting #bossbabes

I suppose being employed on a reasonable income and short on time makes me less inclined to take up lucrative business opportunities .. I looked again at her profile and noticed she's posted quote a few before and after makeup pictures and seems very excited about her new mascara.. I suspect this is a sign of some kind of MLM.. I've commented saying I never wear makeup and I'm not even sure how to apply it ( true) and she looks lovely either way. Hopefully the end of it

CruCru · 30/05/2024 15:33

Argh! Not the mascara one! A friend’s SIL (who lives in another country) FB messaged me about that. I just didn’t reply.

PossumintheHouse · 30/05/2024 15:44

I had a friend - more an acquaintance - who got really, really into MLM shit. The first one was Juice Plus, and she used to post inspirational videos of her taking some random pill or health drink every. single. day. Multiple times a day. Hats off to her, she did a good job of being smiley and upbeat and raving about the product, but by God was it irritating.
Then one day: nothing. No Juice Plus. Silence for a week... before she introduced the Body Shop and it started all over again, but with creams and body butters. Never was Juice Plus mentioned again. So bloody daft and disingenuous. I eventually took her off social media as we hadn't spoken for years. I sometimes wonder what she is on now.

WotNoUserName · 30/05/2024 17:38

I got a friend who has done numerous MILMs. Coffee, make up, wax melts. They're all amazing and she's a boss babe blah blah. Obviously not making that much as no foreign holidays and still has a crappy car.

Another friend made a huge deal of leaving her normal job to run her MLM business. Loads of posts about how amazing working for herself was, choosing her own hours, lots of seminars with the bosses of the MLM etc. Then she went very quiet. No posts, nothing. Another friend had to deal with something at a company she worked with and mentioned the person she was dealing with. It was MLM friend. She'd sneaked back into her old normal line of work. Guess all the boss babe shit didn't work out Hun. 🙄

Lilacdew · 30/05/2024 17:42

Real offers of work say what they are. People sometimes email old friends out of the blue to say: Are you still doing Russian translation/tree felling/copywriting, because a friend of mine has just moved near you and it looking for...

But a 'business opportunity' usually translates as: are you as desperate and stupid as I am, to part with loads of money for no return?

Cosmosforbreakfast · 30/05/2024 17:58

Don't you want to be 'The CEO of your own life' hun? #bossbabes are smashing it these days!

Sounds like Younique if she's excited about her mascara. It will not end well. She's probably contacted anyone she's known from the year dot on to try sell this crap to. There'll be a lot 'love your life' 'good morning' and 'thriving' FB posts to come.

I've lost a few friends to Juice Plus over the years.

YouOKHun · 30/05/2024 21:24

I sense MLM too. What a disaster. Younique has lost a lot of traction in the UK. The Body Shop at Home has gone tits up and pretty much everyone knows Avon is useless. Loads are now signing up to Oriflame which is a Scandinavian Avon. My money’s on that! In the end it doesn’t matter which one as they are all scams running on toxic positivity and lots of independent research has shown that 99.6% of all sign ups to MLM end up losing money once expenses are factored in. What a shame no one is regulating the “industry”.
