Friend not been in touch for 2 and a half years suddenly has a "business opportunity" for me?

listsandbudgets · 26/05/2024 13:52

She sent a text message late last night saying she had a great opportunity for me and I could make hundreds of pounds every month for only a few hours work.

I've replied saying I'm too busy for any more work and she's replied telling me to at least give it a try and to give her a ring to discuss.

I'd think it was MLM but all of her social media profiles seem relatively normal - no hint of a sudden desire to off load over priced wax melts or mascara or weird health drinks...

So what else could it be? I'm sure it's too good to be true Grin

This has happened so much to me.

I actually had to ask one woman who I knew from DD’s ballet years ago, to stop contacting me on the various platforms I had, because it was now harassment and I’d consider calling the police.

listsandbudgets · 26/05/2024 14:47

Yamuvva that's awful - some people just can't take no for an answer - which MLM was it?

You should ignore. But I'm bored so find out!

Thevelvelletes · 26/05/2024 14:50

Oh thank you for thinking of me for this opportunity.
I can't wait to be a millionaire this time next year.
That should be enough sarcasm to be rid of her.

Could be a hack. A friend was similarly hacked.

Would you be contacting old friends for this though? Wouldn’t you be offering the service rather than the business opportunity?

Almost certainly some kind of MLM.

There's a travel agent type one I've noticed bubbling up in a few places recently

Yes, I have a friend who has fallen for this, seems to make absolutely no money from it but constantly talks it up 🤷🏻‍♀️

muddyford · 26/05/2024 15:31

Probably not her. 'Phone could have been hacked or it's a bot looking as if it's her number.

bilgewater · 26/05/2024 15:43

Could be a hack - I had a mysterious email last week from the mother of someone DS was at school with a decade ago. It said she was very keen for a 'catchup' via email, but wasn't able to speak on the phone due to laryngitis! Very odd, especially as we've spoken about twice, our boys weren't especially close, and obviously are now adults. I just deleted.

Deborah54 · 26/05/2024 16:16

After 2.1/2 yrs I working on she’s gone through her more recent /closest contacts and heard a lot of No so going further afield.
Run for the hills OP

Can i hear more about this scam? A friend of mine has suddenly jacked in her very good job and has totally out of the blue set up an independent online travel agency which she advertises via facebook. It was so out of the blue and nothing she'd ever mentioned before.

LakeTiticaca · 26/05/2024 16:46

Yes it's probably MLM. Beware when get friends requests from people you only know vaguely, friend of a friend, usually. Then get bombarded with posts declaring how brilliant it is. There was independent travel consultants, herbalive, Younique, wax melts and allsorts. People get seduced by the patter, invest money they probably cant afford, and then realise its not the golden egg they thought it was. So they need to try and recoup there money by recruiting others. Only those at the very top actually make any money, like someone I knew from school who is now very rich

Choochoo21 · 26/05/2024 16:54

I would definitely find out what it is!!

It would be a good way to find out if she’s been hacked or not too.

FloofyBear · 26/05/2024 16:59

Run for the hills! If it's her it'll be a
MLM or such and will cost you! if it's a hack then it's also just going to g to be trying to hoover up your hard earned money

.............................

A woman at work had an Oriflame party circa 1988 and my sister and I reluctantly went and the rep singled me out to apply the make up which was beyond hideous and my sister had a fit of hysterics and was nearly sick she was laughing so much.

I had to sit there with a straight face whilst the woman daubed on the make up whilst my sister could be heard shrieking with laughter in the downstairs bathroom.

Horrendous.

Watching this thread just to find out what it is OP.

listsandbudgets · 26/05/2024 17:36

I've decided to ignore the texts but it's such fun to speculate. They're not getting a penny.

I'm beginning to think hack because I wasn't addressed by name and I think she would have at least managed that!

I might send her a message on Facebook in say I've jad some strange messages from someone using her phone number and see what she says
