What do you always have in your fridge or cupboard?

I will let many things run down to nothing but I always have onions, salt and pepper, cheddar, stock cubes and at least one sort of flour.

I usually have tinned tomatoes or passata, oils and garlic.

What do you always have in stock?

DeadMabelle · 25/05/2024 21:25

About ten types of loose tea, chickpeas, miso soup, lemons, ice cubes, plain Greek yoghurt, dark chocolate.

mondaytosunday · 25/05/2024 21:27

Ton of spices, pasta sauce, chopped tomatoes, pasta, olive oil, oats, rice, stock cubes, condiments (ketchup, mustard, sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, chutney etc), flour, sugar, other baking stuff. Tuna. Eggs. Dog and cat food. In the fridge there will always be salads, milk, sour cream, jams, veggies, cheese, butter, OJ. Freezer frozen veg, ice lollies, mince.
I guess we could live on what I have at any time for a week, though the fresh veg would run out fairly quick.
One thing I don't have is bottled water, but think I should get a few litres just in case.

Various dried peas, beans and pulses from Hodmedod, including the end of a 5kg sack of marrowfat peas which were lush. Some dried pastas, a few different types of rice, tins of various beans and chickpeas, tins of tomatoes. Onions, potatoes and garlic, usually a few root vegetables. Cornflour, various dried chillis, chipotles in adobo sauce, spices. Vegan pesto for my partner.

In my fridge, I have things like fish sauce, tomato paste, oyster sauce, soy sauces, mushroom ketchup, a big bottle of bone broth, berries and fruits. I've always got a big jar of cold brewed coffee, eggs and bacon in there. And Monster: the Lewis Hamilton one flavoured with peach, plum and apricot. It tastes fantastic mixed 50-50 with water.

gravy granules… the kids love it…
ketchup - we have a couple of ketchup monsters here.
paprika… literally my life saver when you get some bland food.

PMPBlue · 25/05/2024 22:39

I might have different fresh vegetables etc in at various times, but honestly, I rarely 'run out' of anything. And I mean anything, it's a bit of a running joke in the family- like how not only will I have 5 different types of mustard in the fridge, but a spare of each in the cupboard, just in case.

Stems from a childhood of poverty though- empty cupboards, and an almost empty tub of Happy Shopper margarine in the fridge.
