Cool different London day out? (For a Londoner)

I want to do something fun, cool and different in my city. Any suggestions? A fun day out maybe for the whole family, maybe for just me and DH. I’m very sporty, DH is moderately - but open to any suggestions!!!

What about a visit to God's Own Junkyard in Walthamstowe?

We did a spy trail recently. Look at treasure trails - took us to some real hidden gems.

Ha I actually live in Walthamstow! I do love this place though.

That sounds cool - I’ll check it out!

What about a GoBoat electric boat rental at Paddington or Canary Wharf?

Turmerictolly · 20/05/2024 21:22

White water rafting at Lee Valley?
Postal Museum.

I loved the Tower Bridge tour!

You could get the cable car over to the 02 and take an Uber boat from there.

Tube tours are brilliant, it makes you see London in a whole new light thinking about what goes on under your feet. The people who run them are charming and geeky, full of little stories and anecdotes. I also really enjoyed appearing and disappearing into secret doorways in front of the paying passengers. We nearly ended up with an extra person who was so busy looking at her phone she hadn’t realised we were standing there for a reason and just joined on the end of our line.

Have you been to the Museum of the Home? I love it there.

I also love a walk along the Thames path from wapping to canary wharf stopping in the old pubs.

Denis Severs house is fantastic but maybe suited more to Christmas time when it is magical.

Chelsea Physic garden is rather special.

@viques they look great. Think I'm going to book myself on one.

How about Thames Rockets?
I enjoyed the O2 climb too although it’s not particularly white knuckle

It’s a good idea to get yourself on their specific mailing list so you don’t miss out as the really exciting ones sell out fast. I am kicking myself for missing the Brunel tour that only happened because the Blackwall tunnel was closed for a couple of days so there was access!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 20/05/2024 21:51

@viques thanks - will do. I have booked the Euston one to start with.

Have you ever done the London Cable Car? We recently did that, and it was a fun day out. Although the ride is short, it's quite impressive, and you can do Greenwich/the Thames Path/the O2 at the same time.

Youhaveyourhandsfull · 21/05/2024 06:34

Maybe not as adventurous as some times of the year, but over Christmas I met a friend for an open air swim in Hampstead lido followed by the pub. Genuinely invigorating swimming an unheated pool in December. Easy round the overground to Gospel oak from Walthamstow.

We’re going to this next week. Some negative reviews but most are very positive.

We really loved Frameless. We went last summer and still talk about it occasionally. Give yourselves longer in each room than you think you need, as the second time round you spot things you missed the first time.

Be a tourist and do the Tower/bridge, walk across the glass floor (bit trippy!) then down to the Globe/Borough market. There’s the Hind to look at/visit, a decent pub etc. If the weather is decent, it’s a fabulous walk down, London Eye etc. I like Giraffe on the south bank for coffee. IMAX is round the corner too.

Go to London Lions basketball match at Copperbox (although I think season is coming to an end). Good for rainy day.
