My dad's partner died of cancer a few days ago, he and I were with her when she died, and I've brought him home with me until the funeral (and probably permanently). He's got Alzheimer's and his partner was his carer. He's been looking pained and twisting his shoulder, he said it's just a spot, but I made him show me his back and found this. It looks just like the squamous cell carcinoma he's had removed before, only it's enormous. He's lost weight and is pale and more vague and breathless than usual, but I thought it was just grief Sad

This is really fucking bad, isn't it? He survived stage 4 lymphoma in 2017 and has a heart condition. I have a doctor calling me back from 111, but should I just take him to A&E?

Gosh, OP. What a day for you all. Sounds like it went very well, thankfully, despite all the extra stress. Hopefully things will be a bit easier for you now.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 14/06/2024 23:00

Your darling Dad sounds a total gem. To have achieved all he's managed, on such a very significant day, while contending with serious pain and hospital saga...just awesome.

And you must feel done in. Good that extended family on hand for support of your immediate one.

Hope the music was a tonic.

Rest well.

Beach11 · 14/06/2024 23:04

Oh what a day. Your dad is so brave. Hope you can all rest tomorrow

MegsNaiceJam · 14/06/2024 23:40

What a brilliant Dad you have. Bless him.

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/06/2024 04:00

Gosh what a trooper. I’m glad your dad managed to get to the wake in the end. Poor thing.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 15/06/2024 08:03

Wow. Respect and congratulations all round.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 15/06/2024 08:22

I have just found your thread. You and your Dad are both amazing. I hope your Dad's wound heals quickly now. Xx

Thisoldheartofmine · 15/06/2024 11:51

@sprigatito I'm so sorry your dad ( and you !)had to go through that pain at the hospital.
Could they not have given him something for it - gas and air ??
But well done to you all for attending the funeral and the wake.
You must all be beyond exhausted.

sprigatito · 15/06/2024 12:29

You guys are going to think I'm a troll (I'm not, honestly, I used to be called Greensleeves and MNHQ can vouch for me!) but we are currently going to A&E again for DS2 who has vomited over a hundred times overnight and this morning and has chest pain and breathing difficulties. I called 111 and they said take him straight to A&E as he needs to be on a drip and have a scan of his stomach (he has had an episode like this before but nowhere near as bad, he had a gastroscopy which didn't show anything

I can't believe this is fucking happening

OMG OP how awful.
How old is your son?

Chewbecca · 15/06/2024 12:39

Oh no, so sorry to hear that. My first thought was this e-coli business. A friend had food poisoning last week and has never vomited so much.
All the best.

Funnywonder · 15/06/2024 12:39

That is horrendous @sprigatito. I hope your son is ok. I can't imagine how stressed you must be🙁

sprigatito · 15/06/2024 12:40

He'll be 20 in August but he's my baby. Currently in the back of my friend's van with his head in my lap.

Oh my word, what an absolutely insane time you are having! I hope your son is OK and is on the mend soon. Bloody big hugs to all of you

TheShellBeach · 15/06/2024 12:58

I'm really sorry about this, @sprigatito

Your family is having a terrible time lately.

TheShellBeach · 15/06/2024 12:59

I suppose the only upside to this is that it didn't happen yesterday.

HalebiHabibti · 15/06/2024 13:02

Oh no @sprigatito :( a stranger is sitting here thinking of you and your family and wishing you as much health and smooth sailing as possible.

AGlinnerOfHope · 15/06/2024 13:29

Oh bless you. Last time it happened, was it during a stressful, high emotion time?

sprigatito · 15/06/2024 14:08

AGlinnerOfHope · 15/06/2024 13:29

Actually it was, now I think about it. He's had an ECG and blood tests, just waiting for the results now.

Oh goodness that all sounds terrible.

I wonder if it might be cyclical vomiting syndrome? one of my brothers had this as a teen and still gets attacks as an adult. For him it’s always during prolonged periods of intense stress and anxiety.

During an attack he throws up up to 10 times an hour, it’s horrendous. He also gets horrendous migraines, I think there’s a link.

AGlinnerOfHope · 15/06/2024 14:14

Yes, we do random vomiting with stress. We can stave it off with caffeine and staying hydrated.

sprigatito · 15/06/2024 14:18

It could be that! There's only been one previous episode, but maybe you can develop it as a young adult? He's freezing cold, shivering and his temperature won't go above 35 even wrapped in blankets

OP posts:
claphamnative · 15/06/2024 14:20

I’m not sure if it can develop in young adults, but I don’t see why not.

the low temperature sounds really concerning, are you at A&E now?
