Lumea on fungal nails?

Mamawanna · 18/05/2024 08:22

Hello,

I had previously seen a comment on here about someone using their Lumea to treat fungal nails. I was wondering if anyone else had done so successfully?

My DH caught this last year and has consistently used an otc treatment for almost a year with no improvement. He’s rather avoid the risks that come with tablets if possible, so was looking to see if this is potentially an option (even though I know it’s not advertised for the specific use!)

Thank you

Has he tried Vicks Vapour Rub? That worked for me.

Mamawanna · 18/05/2024 09:05

@Blahblahblabbaba no he hasn’t! I wasn’t sure if that was just an old wives tale.

How bad was your nail? His is his entire big toe and little toe on one foot.

Another here who thinks Vicks vapour rub is effective.

CherryRipe1 · 18/05/2024 09:51

Tiger balm with an extra dab of tea tree cleared mine up but I think it's similar to Vicks?

Mamawanna · 18/05/2024 09:55

@Ialwaysdomybest great to hear! How bad was your infection?

how often do you apply the Vicks? Just fresh socks over it, or any plasters etc to keep it on? Thanks

Vicks sorted out mine too. Twice a day - used a cotton bud to apply and make sure it gets into the inner surface of the nail too. It changed the whole nail colour first so I panicked it was making it worse but then it was so satisfying watching the healthy nail grow in . Definitely works!

MaryFuckingFerguson · 18/05/2024 10:03

I have my first ever fungal nail which I’ve been treating for 6 months to no avail. I’m going to try my lumea, although it will be tricky to get it to flash on my little toe.

I used my lumea to get rid of a patch of broken capillaries I had on my cheek for 5 years, so I now think it’s magic!

Nonyx nail gel.

Brilliant stuff.

The problem I have is with the nails on both my big toes.
I rub the Vicks on after I've showered in a morning and then will either put clean socks on if it's colder weather or put open toed footwear on until its absorbed.
When I remember I'll also rub some in on an evening as well.

I had karvol in the cupboard so used that. It does work. That said mine come and go year in year out usually because I'm always in shoes.

I put it on at night. Try to have a few weeks with bare feet before I do my summer pedicure and it usually sorts it.

WellOwlBeDamned · 18/05/2024 11:02

I’m sure I heard ont’ radio that tartar sauce was the thing…

😂

Curlewwoohoo · 18/05/2024 11:03

How often do you use the lumea? I've had a fully fungal little toe nail 2 or 3yrs, have been using otc treatments consistently.

Mamawanna · 18/05/2024 14:31

@Curlewwoohoo i am not sure exactly how the Lumea works on mail.

It was user @sisteragatha that originally posted about it, but was wondering if any other users had also had success as it’s clear that the otc one definitely isn’t working for him.

How long did it take you all for Vicks to work & for the new nail to fully grow in? @Ialwaysdomybest @Blahblahblabbaba @runningonberocca

runningonberocca · 18/05/2024 16:12

It depends on how quickly your nails grow so it’s quite slow- took about 6 -8 months for me .

PotatoPudding · 18/05/2024 16:20

I would honestly just go with the pills. I used topical treatments for years to no avail. The pills worked a treat.

Mamawanna · 18/05/2024 23:37

Thank you all.

I have ordered a Lumea & we will try that along with the Vicks and see if we can tackle this without the pills. He could take them, but really would rather not to as he has a liver metabolic disorder which slightly increases his chances of experiencing issues.

I’ll update this in a few months to see if we have any progress!

Hello, I was just wondering if you actually got this to work on any of your toes? I hadn’t thought it through with attachments etc 😂- would the bikini or face one be small enough? Thank you

Changingplace · 21/05/2024 16:46

I tried every single other thing for fungal nails and the only thing that worked was the tables, I put off getting them for absolutely ages and tbh it just got worse and worse in the meantime.

Get the blood tests then get the tablets, if they think you’re at risk they won’t prescribe them anyway.

I've used my lumea on my little toe, I just scrunched my hand around the attachment so it was all closed off.

I'd forgotten that I'd done this but actually I've just realised I haven't used any Curanail treatment lately and I've noticed that the nail fungus is completely gone. Usually it rears its head every so often if I don't use the Curanail. So maybe the lumea does help!

You've probably already thought of this but you need to throw away all his socks. Possibly boil washing them might work but that fungus is unbelievably persistent. With shoes, I bought a steriliser for my expensive shoes but I threw most of them away.

I used the tablets which did work but the fungus still occasionally starts up again, if I have nail polish on for a long time and I don't use Curanail.

Thank you! did you use use the standard sized attachment and then scrunch your hand around it? Or was it a smaller one? Thanks again

We have been boiling socks and using dettol laundry cleanser, but have also been renewing more often as well as using paper towels for feet after the shower etc to prevent infecting anymore else!

Worth a try OP!

If it doesn't work, If you're doing the topical treatment instead, you really have to do it for a whole year as recommended.

I stopped after eight months for a week thinking it must be gone by now surely, and realised it was still there so started again.

After a year it went away. I've been clear since before lockdown. The stuff does work. It just takes a long time.

Hi, I used the smaller attachment, with face on it. My Dettol laundry liquid is anti bacterial /virus so not sure it'd be any good on fungus, you'd need anti fungal stuff. You have to be quite ruthless with socks and shoes! My shoe steriliser was quite expensive (I think around £100) but if I could save a couple of pairs of shoes then it was worth it.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 21/05/2024 20:41

I've tried everything (including the tablets) – only thing that worked was Excilor nail fungus treatment. Was about 15 quid on Amazon and my nail was healed within six months. You just paint it on after a shower and peel it off during the next one. Had the infection to varying degrees for about a decade so I am extremely delighted to finally have healthy nails!

UpToonGirl · 22/05/2024 16:16

@MaryFuckingFerguson how did you get rid of the broken capillaries? Did you use it once or did you have a routine? Not heard of using a lumea in this way but very interested!
