What have you become afraid of as you have gotten older?

Heights.

They never bothered me when I was younger, I travelled and visited towers with glass floors, I never got to jump out of a plane but always wanted to. I did The Nevis bungee jump when I think it was the world’s highest, multiple vertical (slingshot) bungies, paragliding, I remember once being lifted up by a crane and pulling a cord to release me and 2 strangers, we free fell then swung in the air. I was absolutely that annoying person who swung the big wheel carriage when we were at the top.

Now the thought of even a ferris wheel freaks me out. I went on the small one at Legoland Windsor a few years ago felt so sick, I couldn’t look at anything. My DDs wanted to go on the Liverpool Wheel the other week and I felt so bad because I’ve always talked about cool things I’ve done, but I couldn’t do it. I can’t even go on high theme park rides any more. When I was younger, talking right into my 30s, the bigger the better.

I don’t know what has happened to me, I still love the thought of jumping out of a plane but I know I’d be a quivering mess if I tried.

Anyone else have sudden fears they never had, other than the immortal ever lasting sleep that is?

@VerityVeritas I had my MRI because of vertigo. Then I heard a physio on the radio talking about how vertigo can be caused by crystals getting in to the wrong part of your ear. I went for vestibular physio and it sorted out my vertigo in a few sessions.

I did jump out of a plane when I was younger, completely solo, but it feels unbelievable to me now that I even went up in it, let alone jumped out. I'm scared of any heights, even seeing someone high up on TV makes my stomach queasy. Also:
Fairground rides
Driving above about 50mph/motorways/ in the dark

Getting sick or ill.

Fairground rides. I used to LOVE the ferris wheel, the meteorite, waltzers etc. But nothing on earth would persuade me on them now. The invincibility of youth,I suppose!

My shitty asthma and surviving the winters ahead. If I get a chest infection that’s me in hospital on a nebuliser and a truckload of steroids for a week or longer. This year my anxiety about the coming winter and viruses that exacerbate my asthma has definitely increased. I was in hospital in February on a nebuliser. It’s only going to get worse.

I always thought it was older people who began to dread the winter - not so. I’m 42 so not particularly young but if you’d told me I’d be fearful of the cold seasons by this age I wouldn’t have believed you
