Dishwasher tablets - worth the splurge?

MagnumsPIsMustache · 17/05/2024 11:26

I just got a dishwasher after years without one. Any recommendations as to what tablets to use? My mum swears by Fairy Platinum Plus Complete All-In-1 Dishwasher Tablets With Anti-Dull Technology but they are quite pricey. Anyone knows if they are indeed worth the splurge? Or should I save my money and go for something cheaper? What tablets would you recommend?

I buy Tesco own brand lemon liquid capsules and I think they work just as well as the expensive big brands. I have used all the big brands over the years and the Tesco ones do exactly the same job. Also use Tesco own brand rinse aid and salts too. Again, no difference to that of the big brands.

The Aldi 3 in 1 type ones (magnum??) used to get the best ratings

No difference at all to my undiscerning eyes.

Aldi's tablets do the job perfectly well for a fraction of the price.

I buy whatever is on offer at the time / cheapest per tablet. Used all but absolute basics range and found no difference.

We live in a hard water area and only decent tablets work.... Fairy ones we get..

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 17/05/2024 11:33

Second Aldi - they seem to do well on which reviews
enjoy the dishwasher!!

thistimelastweek · 17/05/2024 11:34

I agree with the OP's mum.
I can run my dishwasher on lower temperatures/eco programmes more successfully with the fairy tabs.

bluecomputerscreen · 17/05/2024 11:35

lidl own brand 4in1 always come up well in european testing.
lidl also sell frangrance free eco tablets that do a good job.

if you are in a hard water area you will still need dishwasher salt.

VillageLite · 17/05/2024 11:39

I find Fairy tablets are the best. Particularly with a longer cycle.
I find if you just use cheap ones it’s ok at first, but then after a while you start getting poor results.

So usually I alternate every couple of days, a couple of cheap, then one expensive. If I am washing up baking dishes after a roast or lasagne or something I use the expensive ones.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/05/2024 11:40

I buy the cheapest ones I can find. They all seem to do the job. We have soft water though.

Bankholidayhelp · 17/05/2024 11:41

V hard water here and can't get away with own brand. Have to use Fairy tabs. If I ever use something like Asdas own then I need to use two and probably do some post dish wash hand washing as well.

Same here! Used every brand but got Tesco ones once as a substitute and they're fab.

mitogoshi · 17/05/2024 11:49

Lidl own brand

TemuSpecialBuy · 17/05/2024 11:51

Whatever is on offer 🤷🏻‍♀️

Blanketsburg · 17/05/2024 11:53

I've only ever used Aldi, Lidl or Home Bargains and all have been absolutely fine. I see the prices on the branded ones and think it's mad!

Peonies12 · 17/05/2024 11:53

The Aldi Magnum ones are great, I swear it's the same product as fairy.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 17/05/2024 11:55

I use Aldi smart price ones broken in half.

Their cruelty free too.

ZippyZappyZoo · 17/05/2024 11:55

Yes they are. The cheap shit ones you get at center Parcs and the like really are shit. Fairy platinum all in one here. Even finish are crap in comparison.

They're better in my opinion. We brought some fairy ones on holiday recently and brought the rest back with us to use them and they didn't do as good a job as the Aldi ones we normally have.

We're also in a hard water area and it's never been an issue.

BigDahliaFan · 17/05/2024 11:55

We have soft water, usually run the long cycle and find the Coop own brand are fine....

NigelHarmansNewWife · 17/05/2024 11:56

I found Fairy tabs tainted any plastics or silicone so after buying them once when on special offer have never bought them again. I use supermarket own brand all in one tablets and top up the salt as we have slightly hard water.

JadeSeahorse · 17/05/2024 11:58

I’ve had dishwashers since 1986.

my advice - and I live in a hard water area - is buy the cheapest tablets you can find but ensure you keep both salt and rinse aid dispensers filled. (I tend to use either Aldi Magnum Classic or Morrisons Savers. Both are great!)

Personally I find the 3 in 1’s useless for hard water areas.

bakermummy21 · 17/05/2024 11:58

Fabulosa Ultimate Dishwasher Tablets from B & M work fine for us.

GasPanic · 17/05/2024 12:27

I use quantum finish and I pay the price for them because I believe they produce much better results than others I have tried.

CleanShirt · 17/05/2024 12:28

If you have a Savers near you they do big bags of Fairy etc for a good price.
