Dishwasher tablets - worth the splurge?

I just got a dishwasher after years without one. Any recommendations as to what tablets to use? My mum swears by Fairy Platinum Plus Complete All-In-1 Dishwasher Tablets With Anti-Dull Technology but they are quite pricey. Anyone knows if they are indeed worth the splurge? Or should I save my money and go for something cheaper? What tablets would you recommend?

I use the Aldi ones which were/ are a which best buy and just as good as Fairy/Finish and other big brands

The Aldi ones are the best in my opinion. I have used them for years, wouldn't buy any other brand.

I always use Finish tablets, whichever are on offer, they’re all good. I used Aldi own brand for a few months and started to notice the difference, things weren’t coming out shiny, and had a film left on them. I live in a hard water area and always keep the salt and rinse aid topped up, so it wasn’t that. I’m not fussy about using supermarket own brands, but these ones just didn’t work for me.

Bear in mind that when they do their testing they'll be testing all the same brands together so finish tablets with finish rinse and salt etc. rather than a mix of fairy and supermarket own brand. I do tend to find the finish quantum ones work best for my machine.

I've tried all sorts and Fairy platinum are the best.

We use dishwasher powder and separate rinse aid and salt, advised by the dishwasher engineer. We use only half the amount specified so it's quite cheap and everything gets clean.

The cheapest ones I can find. Tends to be morrissons savers..never had a problem with them.

RobinBobbin · 17/05/2024 15:07

Whatever 3-in-1 is on offer. Plus I keep the rinse aid topped up otherwise the plastic Tupperware type boxes come out wet.

Hard water area but we have a built in water softener so don't bother with salt.

I buy eco ones, and use bio d or eco leaf, I don’t buy the others.
both v good

DoublePeonies · 17/05/2024 15:16

Cheapest "all in ones" you can find - Amazon currently for us.
But keep the salt and rinse aid topped up.
I hate the posh ones with the gel ontop. And lemon scented ones are also swerved.

No, not worth it. I buy Lidl own tablets, works great!

rwa818 · 17/05/2024 15:21

I use smol usually (eco friendly, plastic free packaging, send through the post and fit through letterbox) they will give you a free trial too. They work well, no complaints.

I think the super expensive ones work a bit better than aldi/lidl brands but not enough to justify the price difference!

I just bought a box of the Aldi ones - they were on offer at £2.50 for 50 tablets. I couldn't leave it there! Curious to see how they perform.

The ones in the blue box are good but the premium ones in the packet are the best from my experience!
