Is that by choice or other factors?

Pennyandolive · 16/05/2024 11:45

Do you mean abroad or within your home country? Do you mean extended time or not even a night or weekend away here or there?

I mean not at all. Not in home country, not for a weekend . Not abroad. Not at all.

I don’t think I know anyone who has never been on holiday, what do you do when you take time off work? Just stay at home but not work?

Unabletomitigate · 16/05/2024 11:57

Do you want to?
I had this weird conversation with a friend who felt she had to go on holiday.

MiddleAgedDread · 16/05/2024 11:59

It's not mandatory but I'd expect it's quite unusual in some circles and not so much in others. Is it a cost thing or you just don't want to leave home?

ginasevern · 16/05/2024 12:05

Is this through choice or because of particular factors in your life? It is unusual to have never been on any sort of holiday whatsoever since you were 15.

ComtesseDeSpair · 16/05/2024 12:06

Would you like to go on holiday? It’s never too late and you can start with steps as small as you like. Is there a place you’ve been to for a daytrip that you particularly like, or a city or town you’ve visited and would like to explore more? An overnight in a hotel would make that a holiday!

JumpstartMondays · 16/05/2024 12:08

I'm sad for you.

And I can't fathom why you haven't managed to have even 1 overnight stay that you can call a holiday in all that time!

What do you do with your annual leave?

K0OLA1D · 16/05/2024 12:10

I don't think I know anyone who hasn't been on holiday since they were a child. Do you want to?

Devilsmommy · 16/05/2024 12:10

My husband had his first ever holiday at the age of 53, it was in our country, UK, and was our honeymoon 😊

Borborygmus · 16/05/2024 12:14

Yes, I'm much the same, I think my last holiday was when I was 15 too. Though I'm a fair bit older (mid 60s).

MermaidEyes · 16/05/2024 12:16

I honestly don't think I know anyone either. If you're happy with that then fair enough but I would hate the thought of never travelling and having new experiences again.

Do you live in a touristy place?

OldTinHat · 16/05/2024 12:24

If it helps, a neighbour in my terrace is 96. She was born in the house she still lives in, has never left the island we live on, never married or had children. In fact, she hasn't even been out of the town we live in.

She's the happiest, most sprightly and active person I know! This may be why!

Mairzydotes · 16/05/2024 12:28

I haven't been on holiday much . My df had his own business, so I only went away a couple of times with dm and dgm. I went on a few residential trips with school, and an exchange to France. I went away in the caravan with a school friend and her parents once.

I've only been on a package holiday once. When I was 19 with my then boyfriend. I've had little UK breaks since.

My eldest dc is 19 and has stayed in a hotel for only 1 night, on a UK trip with me.

I've always had dogs , people find that explains my lack of holidays.

Yes.

Comedycook · 16/05/2024 12:29

Why not op? What has stopped you? Do you want to go away somewhere?

Mairzydotes · 16/05/2024 12:31

What do you do with your annual leave?

It seems like most people I know ( certainly colleagues ) don't go away for all of their annual leave, it's just a week or two.

I find it restful to sit at home and do nothing. I find going away stressful.

FrenchandSaunders · 16/05/2024 12:31

@Mairzydotes hasn't your 19 year old done school trips or scouts etc?

Bloom15 · 16/05/2024 12:32

If you're happy with it then it's fine but it is unusual.

We're away 3 times this year - now as our family of 3 in Benalmadena, in early August going to Llandudno with my parents and later on that month away with DH's parents to the Lake District.

This is a lot for us! Although the 3 of us usually do at least a short break in the UK

KateMiskin · 16/05/2024 12:32

We need more information. Why?

caringcarer · 16/05/2024 12:33

Why haven't you been on any holidays at all OP?

ControlShiftDelete · 16/05/2024 12:52

I had friend from school who never went to a different town let alone a holiday but she came from a broken family and then went into an abusive relationship having kids to escape her abusive chaotic home life.

Comedycook · 16/05/2024 12:29

Mixture of reasons really. Sometimes I have not been bothered about it. Then when kids were little I thought I will Just be bored without adult company. Then in-between had more children. Then generally it's felt like a big hassle. Then life has got in the way. More recently my older /adult kids have gone on holiday . My smaller children are going on holiday with their father this year. Its their first holiday. So now I'm starting to think what about me 🤣. I'm bothered but not bothered at the same time.
