Dinosaur costume, carrying an asteroid.

crockofshite · 15/05/2024 22:24

Are we talking inflatables in the English channel or the Titanic?

Bit of a dark theme.

You could always go dressed as an insurance assessor.

Like someone else said, take a door!

NewMe2024 · 15/05/2024 22:27

I looked it up and reckon it is basically Titanic.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 15/05/2024 22:28

Went to a party with this theme many years ago.

My mate had a toilet seat hanging down his back and pants round his ankles. Fairly self-explanatory :)

And it's not necessarily a Titanic theme. Any old ship.

Once you get over it and get in the spirit it’s actually quite fun…

I loathe them with a passion. I just find the whole thing juvenile and humourless.

I’d never attend one under any circumstances. Thankfully they are not really a thing in my or DH’s social circle.

What a fun sponge

LifeofBrienne · 15/05/2024 22:34

I’m in the WTF camp for that theme. Bit fucking macabre.

MrsFionaCharming · 15/05/2024 22:35

I’d go Star Trek uniform.

QueSyrahSyrah · 15/05/2024 22:36

WTF? Are we talking Vasa? Titanic? Herald of Free Enterprise? Costa Concordia?

None of them are particularly appropriate party themes are they?

What next, 'what you were wearing when the towers fell?' All seems in pretty bad taste.

peanutbuttertoasty · 15/05/2024 22:41

It’s really a sick theme. Who celebrates the untimely deaths of over 1000 real people? Children died on that boat.

mewkins · 15/05/2024 23:07

I don't mind a fancy dress theme but agreed that this one is a bit dark....

I agree with this, @peanutbuttertoasty 's post, and others.

Great numbers of people dying doesn't seem like something to party about.

AdaColeman · 15/05/2024 23:56

For a couple, man in Naval Officer uniform, woman in party frock or nightdress wearing the cap or jacket from the Naval uniform.
Or
Man in boiler suit, woman in party frock or waitress outfit.

I do agree, that it's rather a macabre theme to choose. One I went to had a huge painted backdrop of towering waves and iceberg, and flickering lights,

Mrsstevenpatrickmorrissey01 · 16/05/2024 07:32

Thanks everyone , It’s not the Titanic specifically , more anything you could be wearing on a ship just before it sinks. My first thought was pyjamas , mainly for comfort ! Could add fluffy slippers and a few curlers in my hair I suppose .
Some good suggestions so far , keep them coming !
Last night my DH suggested Magician and his assistant.

pyjamas, evening dress or a summer wear. I’d make sure I wore something I looked good in. We once went to 1940s themed party and all the other women wore headscarves and aprons. I chose the Lauren Bacall look - wide evening trousers and a sequinned jacket from a charity shop.

Did they have gym instructors on the titanic? I’m even more confused now 😄

Yes, they did.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 16/05/2024 08:34

Go as Jane McDonald?

I'd wear my wedding dress as it was based on the pattern for one of Rose's dresses in Titanic.

PostmanPatAlwaysRingsTwice · 16/05/2024 08:38

Some posters seem confused about when the Titanic sank. It was 1912, not the 20s or 30s.

Anyway, bad taste. People died.

I find it pretty distasteful as well - a Titanic themed party wouldn't bother me, but the wording of the theme just brings to mind so many relatively recent disasters that it makes me feel really uncomfortable and I'm usually the last of the pearl clutchers.

What’s the difference?

Tell me it was the pink and lilac dress she wears while running through all that steam 😍

As for the theme, easiest would be pyjamas or normal evening dress w/ life jacket.

I have to say though, what a horrible theme. I normally like a bit of fancy dress but dressing up as people who’ve died a horrible death, ick.

SnoqualmieRiver · 16/05/2024 08:53

Get a couple of gimp suits.

ATribeCalledQuestion · 16/05/2024 08:55

I love fancy dress parties but I agree with PP, what a horrible theme. An outfit someone might have been wearing before they died a horrible death by drowning. Gross.
