To counter all the doom-and-gloom posts about parenting, can anyone share their favourite parts about being a mum? What have you found most fulfilling?

Pregnant and nervous, but excited too!

I have a 4 yo and an 18 month old and they are now getting to the age where they play together. So for me watching them playing with mage blocks and water play today was so sweet. Also when the 18month old tried to go down the step my 4 year old stood in front and said "now how do we do this Bob. You need to turn around to come down safely" it was very cute

Seeing the world through his eyes. The simplest of things amaze him, and they just have such an innocent view of everything.
He's 3 and we belly laugh with eachother every day.

Cooking for them and them eating everything and asking for seconds.

Mine today was my 2 year old son randomly asking for music in the car and proceeding to bob his little head side to side with a big grin on his face. First time he's ever asked for music and his pure happiness in that moment made me cry!

I agree: it's the Love ❤️

Finding out that you can love someone so unconditionally and discovering infinite reserves of patience and compassion inside yourself.

You look at them and they are just the most beautiful, adorable, wonderful and special human being to ever exist in the history of the whole world and you feel like you never want to take your eyes off them.

Surreptitiously crying my eyes out with joy and pride at nativity plays and choir concerts and sports days is my daft but treasured parent privilege.

All the things I have learned due to my child's interest and curiosity. For instance, I thought Physics was so boring when I was at school and I was soooo wrong. Physics applied to stars, aeroplanes and so much else is amazing!

Right now having a young adult to banter and joke with, feeling so proud as you watch them grow into their full potential. Being there every step of the way, having supported them through everything. Knowing that they make everything worth while and their happiness means everything.

PurpleChrayn · 11/05/2024 21:28

Chubby little dimpled hands.

katmarie · 11/05/2024 21:29

The cuddles, absolutely. And the random facts, the sheer wonder with which they see the world, the absolute trust they put in you. The way they crumple into you when they're hurt or upset and need a cuddle. The magical powers you feel like you have when giving them a cuddle and a kiss fixes their problem (long may that continue). When they fall asleep on you. Mostly the cuddles.

RadRad · 11/05/2024 21:29

Honestly, the unconditional love I get, I have never felt more loved in my entire life.

catsnore · 11/05/2024 21:31

Snuggling them and smelling their heads. It's like some weird mum drug, that smell 😂

NowStartAgain · 11/05/2024 21:35

My DD is 8. She’s been a total joy throughout so far. She’s great company, it makes life fun doing stuff with her.

Timeforanewnam · 11/05/2024 21:37

When they are old enough to put petrol in the car and go pay for it , so you don’t have to get out . Magic

OriginalUsername2 · 11/05/2024 21:38

Being their go-to Oracle of Wisdom. They’re older now and realise I’m not as wise as a tree full of owls after all. But they still come to me and trust me and I love that.

In the younger years, those squidgy baby-grow cuddles! And making them laugh. It’s crazy how babies have a sense of humour before they have much else!

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 11/05/2024 21:40

My proudest moment was when dd learned how to make a decent cup of tea and bring it to me in bed!

TheBirdintheCave · 11/05/2024 21:40

When my 3.5 year old son gives me a big hug and says 'I love you SO much' 😍😭 Makes me feel like maybe I'm an ok parent.

Daisy12Maisie · 11/05/2024 21:41

My 17 year old has his WhatsApp picture of me and him at his graduation. ❤️. He is learning to drive and doing amazing. I'm proud of him. My youngest one who is 15 just text me and said I'm home mum, love you. He has been out at a bbq. He has gone to his bedroom which is a different floor to mine. He was just checking I knew he was home safely so I didn't worry.
Contrary to popular opinion I love the teenage years. They are funny, good company and come and go as they please so when we do spend time together it's nice.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/05/2024 21:41

The first time your baby turns smiles at you is magical!

Yazzi · 11/05/2024 21:48

The privilege of seeing these people learn, grow, navigate the world.

The emotion when you see them achieve something.

When they're a baby- the smell of the top of their head. Skin to skin naps while watching love island and having a cuppa. Dressing them in funny outfits. Being witness to their 'firsts'.

Weekly movie night. Playing Guess Who with little people taking it incredibly seriously.

Watching their excitement when you go on holiday.

Making mum friends at the school gate or their sports.

Being in your car or house all together, and knowing that these are your family, your people, and you are raising them in a loving and secure home (whether single or partnered).

The unbelievable depth of love you have for them.

tulipsunday · 11/05/2024 22:15

@Daisy12Maisie as a mum to two little boys that is so lovely to read I hope mine will be like that 🥰

ghostbusters · 11/05/2024 22:31

We got our eldest's first high school report card this week. Reading the wonderful comments almost brought a tear to my eye, I'm so proud of him.

My youngest DS, age 9, comes running into the room to give me a hug and a kiss then runs back out again 💙 He often holds my hand when we're out. It's lovely to have a little hand appear in mine.

catlady7 · 11/05/2024 22:32

Just love making them laugh and smile.

Lovinglife57 · 11/05/2024 22:33

It’s in the name MUM that’s the best part there is nothing more special than being a mum a loving mum and everything it stands for

movingonsaturday · 11/05/2024 22:41

Having 2 little best friends who make me feel whole 🍊

NeverendingRabbitHole · 11/05/2024 23:08

Watching their character and personality emerge. It's there from the very earliest weeks but you only really realise this when you see them as juniors and teens - then look back and you 'see' them in the baby pics. I love this part
