The Holy Grail of kids suncream... please help

Is there one amazing sun cream I can get? Any suggestions please for one that fits the bill:

  • won't leave the kids feeling greasy/sticky
  • ideally an all-day one, they can put on in the morning before school and will broadly last all day
  • SPF 50 (they're very pale and prone to burning)
  • won't turn their white polo shirts yellow or green within a week

Anyone? Over the years we've tried:
PizBuin which is a great all-day one and not TOO sticky but definitely fails the white polo shirt test.
Ambre Solaire - not bad but no all-day options and pretty greasy, and smells quite strong (although I LOVE the smell but the DC don't)
Nivea - greasy, fails white polo shirt test
Lidl own brand - greasy, fails white polo shirt test, not an all day one
Soltan - fails on all levels except there's an all-day one

Please send help!

We use Asda’s Suncream now. Not sure if they do an all day one.

The P20 stuff is excellent.

Argh! That's the one I meant, not Piz Buin. We used that last year (and this morning) but it's absolute murder on white polo shirts. And fairly greasy.

Like this one too. Can't remember it being greasy

Mine like a mousse as it not as sticky. There's really no such thing as all day if they're in full sun and running around.

keely79 · 07/05/2024 12:47

Ultrasun kids - bit pricey but really lasts all day and soaks in easily

StubbleTurnips · 07/05/2024 12:49

SunSense - expensive but worth it

OmniPresents · 07/05/2024 12:49

Banana boat powder dry - in the yellow bottle.

It's the only one my DS with sensory issues will tolerate - he says it's the only one we've tried (and we've tried them all!) that's not in the slightest bit greasy.

Droolylabradors · 07/05/2024 12:52

There is no such thing as suncream that doesn't ruin white clothes.

We are a sunsense/ultrasun house, but over the years I've tried everthing including mineral. Disasters for white, each and every one!

Droolylabradors · 07/05/2024 12:52

But sunsense 50 was OK for my kids, plus they used LRP stick on their faces.

MonkeyPuddle · 07/05/2024 12:53

I use the calypso all day factor 50 for my ginger child. Put it on first thing on a school day, does do a bit of yellowing on his t shirts though. But he’s never burned with it.

That looks good.

Agree there is no all day one really but it's mostly for school days I'm thinking of this, where they won't be out in it all day but also I won't be around to reapply.

Yeah, I'm probably living a fantasy thinking it's possible.

I just wish primary schools didn't have white polo shirts! They get filthy at the best of times.

The nivea protect and dry touch clear spray is good, it says immediate absorbtion on the bottle and is less greasy than white creams

Pogointospring · 07/05/2024 13:07

Not sure what Soltan one you’ve tried but we use Boots Soltan Once spray in factor 50 - it stains, but I’ve never found an effective sun cream that doesn’t. I don’t think it’s greasy or sticky myself (though the lotion version is a bit gloopy imho) and it lasts a school day alright.

WhyIsTheDogBlue · 07/05/2024 13:07

Ultrasun. Put it on in the morning before getting dressed and allow it to soak in before getting dressed. You still get yellowing but I've found its less likely or minimal if you allow time for the lotion to soak in first.
Sunsense is good too but needs replying more often.

DazedandConcerned · 07/05/2024 13:09

Sunsense. My husband used to get it on prescription but now we buy it ourselves from Amazon. Amazing stuff from Australia.

BigBoysDontCry · 07/05/2024 13:12

Another vote for the banana boat dry one, also smells amazing...

My DS has sensitive skin and he was ways fine with it too.

GoneIsAnotherSummersDay · 07/05/2024 13:17

Ultrasun

It's brilliant. I used to burn using other brands' SPF 30 but I can apply ultrasun 30 in the morning and it lasts all day.

Their SPF50 is great too but I haven't used it as much as it turns out a good quality 30 is enough.

Re clothes staining, if you're only applying once a day just apply it in the morning before dressing.

TigerOnTour · 07/05/2024 13:17

Sainsbury's 50+ isn't greasy. Probably still stains t-shirts though!

SlipperyLizard · 07/05/2024 13:20

We use the calypso one mentioned above, ticks all the boxes except the white shirt ruining (which I think is an impossible ask!).

Pheasantpluckerswife · 07/05/2024 13:22

We use Calypso apply once suncream. It works really well. You can get it on Amazon

MothBat · 07/05/2024 13:26

Another vote for Ultrasun. We used factor 30 family one for pale skin in UK. Put it on first thing before getting dressed. Should last the school day at least. Would top up if swimming though. Expensive but lasts.
