Most loved adverts?

Following on from the current 'most hated adverts' thread, which adverts are people secretly enjoying?

(probably more fun to talk about hated adverts but presumably some of us like them otherwise the advertising execs wouldn't produce them?)

I quite like 'you think you've got grief but I'm running out of briefs'

OP posts:

The John West one where the guy was fighting the bear. For tuna or salmon I think. So funny.

I really liked the one a few years ago where the girl got the pound back from the trolley and was bossing it until her dad asked for it back. Her lovely face is so expressive.

The Haven Holidays ad from a few years ago, with the
young lad driving a chariot down the beach to Tenpole Tudor's "Swords of a Thousand Men". Fabulously creative and imaginative.

For Mash Get Smash

KnitnNatterAuntie · 04/05/2024 21:17

The Werther's Originals advert with the grandad was quite sweet (no pun intended!)

KnitnNatterAuntie · 04/05/2024 21:21

And I seem to remember an advert For Fox's Glacier Mints with a polar bear that was quite cute . . .

PriscillaPresssley · 04/05/2024 21:21

The coffee one with Tony Head and Sharon Maughan, went on for years and you always wondered if they would get together

Cantfindansweronline · 04/05/2024 21:23

I usually detest ads with a passion but on the current Tiguan one with the dad taking the kids camping I love the little girl eating the burnt sausages - her face is such a fab mixture of distaste/bewilderment. Fantastic little actress!

KnitnNatterAuntie · 04/05/2024 21:24

Don't know how long ago it was but we loved the Club biscuit one . . . "If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuits join our club"

jay55 · 04/05/2024 21:26

But smart ole Blue he chose the Milky Way

DagnabbitDeputyDawg · 04/05/2024 21:27

Country Life butter (hence my username)

Oh we are the lads from Country Life
And you can't put a better bit o' butter on your knife.
If you haven't any in, have a word with the wife
And spread it on your toast in the morning.

Hadn't expected that third line to win favour with Mumsnet.

Stipdown · 04/05/2024 21:31

Oh the hiscox insurance one. There's a series on the radio for PII. The one with the kids reading the advert. It makes me laugh so much.

Cocothecoconut · 04/05/2024 21:33

The twix one
the snap as you bite into it

🎼"Beer at home means Davenports
Lots of beer
Lots of cheer..."

I still know all the lyrics from the 60s/70s. You need to have lived in the West Mids/Black Country to remember this.

It was always on during Star Soccer on Sunday, just after lunch. So were the Esso Blue adverts, back in the days when people had paraffin heaters.

Beer at home means Davenport's:
That's the beer, lots of cheer.
The finest malt with hops and yeast:
Turns a snack into a feast.
Straight from brewery to your home.
Why collect? We'll deliver.
Soon you'll know why folks all say
Beer at home means Davenport's"

I preferred the public information films about road safety, learning to swim and calling the coastguard (in an ITV region with no coast).

I have a DVD with loads of the public information ads on. Charlie says.......
Some of them are funny ,and some a bit scary, especially the one with the grim reaper in about playing near water

alahanscornershop · 04/05/2024 21:53

The one with the goat on a hang glider. I do mint know why but it gives me goosebumps every time I see it

asbestosmouth24 · 04/05/2024 22:05

I used to love the tiscali broadband adverts from the early 2000s the screen would scroll down slowy as the old style dial up Internet used to do. we would guess if it was 2 bald heads, boiled eggs, or boobs etc. does anyone else remember these adverts.

PriscillaPresssley · 04/05/2024 22:06

I'm probably in the minority but I laugh when Dominac West says 'oh' when the guy says 'that word isn't banker'

Targettargets · 04/05/2024 22:27

Twix

Many old ones - BT Maureen Lipman and JR Hartley
old spice
the Halifax with dancing and singing

Clawdy · 04/05/2024 22:31

The one where the woman gets in the car after her divorce has come through, looks sad for a minute, then drives off beaming, with Young At Heart playing on car radio.

OneFrenchEgg · 04/05/2024 22:32

Daddy...or chips?
Accrington Stanley, who are they?

SilentBob · 04/05/2024 22:55

The OXO adverts
Accrington Stanley- "who are they?" (can't remember what it was advertising)
Country Life butter (hence my username)
Nescafe Gold Blend
Yellow Pages J R Hartley
British Telecom Ology
So many more. 80's adverts were the best!

The Accrington Stanley one was advertising milk. I grew up in a little village on the edge of Accrington and the quote from that ad followed me around as a kid! We'd go on holiday and meet other kids, who would ask where we were from. As soon as I said Accrington, the response would be "Accrington Stanley, who are they?". I hadn't seen it and had no idea what they were on about for years! 😂

Floogal · 04/05/2024 23:40

Mr Soft, won't you please tell me why the world in which your living is so strange.
