Antibiotics permanently for rosacea?? I had Finacea azaelic acid prescribed. I've seen people on here recommend Soolantra but I've not tried that one myself.

His sounds really bad, he should see a dermatologist I think and see what they say

muddyford · 02/05/2024 17:50

I had Rozex for mine but it wasn't as bad as your DP's sounds.

BathshebaEverdene1 · 02/05/2024 17:53

Some kind of anti parasitical drug or all round anthelmintic.

Nobody ever wants to hear this but rosacea is an.allergic reaction to demodex mites that live in your eyelash follicles and crawl over your face in the night, shitting.

I was on antibiotics permanently for a few years. Became uncomfortable with the idea of that and came off. Improved my diet to build back a good gut microbiome and discovered cutting out dairy got rid of all the redness and itching and nearly all the spots. I eat whole food plant based as much as possible now and my skin is so much better. No more being called Rudolph either 🙄

If he's red raw it sounds like it needs some steroids but really only a dermatologist/medic can help with that.

I was going to jump on to say have a look at the inkey list redness solution routine. It might help but if skin is so sore it might need something stronger first.

Really? How can that be prevented?

Miserable to be called Rudolf. Its really not OK his skin. But fobbed off at GP.

You cannot prevent Demodex mite infestation in your eyelash follicles.

Have a Google of it as obviously I am just a non medical person on the Internet.
I only know about it as I used to be an academic proof reader and had to read a thesis about it.
Most stuff I read, I instantly forgot about ....but that one stuck in my mind.

Motherrr · 02/05/2024 20:42

I can give you the expensive advice I paid for haha - oily products make it worse - wash face twice a day - h3 probably knows the obvious triggers to avoid. I had laser to remove the red veins and it worked really well. Also ZO skincare - v expensive:o but has really helped me

Utterknowitall · 02/05/2024 20:48

What meds is he on? Has he been referred to dermatology?

Glitter0 · 02/05/2024 20:52

For me it was cutting out gluten. Find out what he’s intolerant too and that should help it.

sixtiesbaby88 · 02/05/2024 20:56

Mine went away completely with Soolantra. It doesn't work for everyone but it's amazing stuff if you are one of those it's good for

PickleJelly · 02/05/2024 20:57

I have rosec and then use azaeliac acid plus salycilic acid. That has worked to calm it alot, it's still not completely clear but then I am not perfect at applying it twice a day so the blame probably sits with me.

My sister uses soolantra and hers is completely clear now. Hers was so sore when she first went to the doctor and it cleared in a matter of weeks.

stayathomer · 02/05/2024 21:00

I don’t know if it’ll help but for me Cetaphil gentle face wash and avene skin soothing cream and le Roche posay spf saved my life. Then the usual that works but depends on how extreme- less tea more water, wash with cooler water, and then the ones that seem to just be for me less cereal and less fizzy drinks (7up is the worst, my face feels like it is on fire!!)

Biomic · 02/05/2024 21:02

I have azaelic acid prescribed for my papular rosacea. I use paraben free make up and sensitive skin cleanser, washing face with water makes it worse. I suppose it all depends which type your partner has, I don't have red flushes as often as spots but use Metronidazole when I do. For me sunlight causes problems, also alcohol, caffeine. Hope your partner can find a suitable treatment.

banhmi · 02/05/2024 21:07

Soolantra cream, as others have said. Very gentle skin care regime, high SPF and staying out of the sun as well as avoiding other triggers. He should drink lots of water.

I also found low dose isotretinoin (that I was put on for adult acne) also really improved my rosacea too.

Good luck to him - rosacea is really distressing.

ThoseBlueRememberedHills · 02/05/2024 21:10

It's recognised that a lot of cases are caused by Demodex mites.

We have them in our eyelashes and eyebrows but they get out of control.

Theredjellybean · 02/05/2024 21:14

I am on lymecycline, an antibiotic.
It works most of the time but I have to avoid triggers too...which are stress, alcohol and sun.
I use no product on my skin, wash in cool water and Roche posey anthiolious sunscreen every single day.

RubyGemStone · 02/05/2024 21:16

Ideally see a dermatologist.

Soolantra, Finacea and Metronidazole - These require a prescription. You can get these from online Drs/Pharmacist though by uploading photos if you dont want to pay to see a dermatologist. Will take weeks to really work but should improve things a bit quickly.

I find using Nizoral as a mask a couple of times a week good

Use very gentle products, like Avene Tolerane or Cicalfate

Use a physical sunscreen - Neostrata Physical Defence or similar

EatMoreFibre · 02/05/2024 21:20

It's more a case of correlation, with causation not having been proven.

If we knew the cause of all types of rosacea it would be straightforward to treat it.

BathshebaEverdene1 · 02/05/2024 21:51

This thread is making my eyes itch...seriously

ehb102 · 02/05/2024 22:35

Soolantra cured mine. I was on erythromycin permanently. Came off it after Soolantra. Got the tip to use it three times a day at first.

eileandubh · 02/05/2024 22:44

Soolantra has been a lifesaver for me, plus being mindful of gut biome as PPs have mentioned. Doses of extreme sugar make mine flare up - fudge and meringues bring the worst offenders. Blush << (rosacea face.)

EricInk · 02/05/2024 22:52

Another vote for Soolantra
, worked for me but it didn't work for DB and he's on antibiotics now with some success

Second this. Use Rozatrol
