Colonoscopy diet and prep help

Evening all. Put on chat for traffic whilst thinking should have put in AIBU but that scares me over there!
Got the procedure Friday so have eaten non whole meal, and white only versions of things today. I feel like my FIL who doesn't do fruit or veg and only eats white bread.
I feel quite bloated and wonder if I've eaten too much bread and fretting that it won't "clear".
I am veggie so can't really do the chicken broth / consommé soups and shredded plain chicken and rice they suggested.
Will I be ok with white toast and a bagel and eggs tomorrow morning / early lunch then nothing but liquids and the prep? Will I feel faint from all the poo and no food ? Guessing sickness bugs are the same hit with no guarantee of keeping fluids down so fingers crossed I'll take my new book, podcast and a duvet into the bathroom
And camp out. Questions I may?

  • Vaseline on bum or sudocrem or?? For soreness
  • Apple juice or an energy drink (lemon?) to drink
I've heard to make the prep cold/ hold my nose/ alternate with lemonade but the woman who gave me the prep was very doom and gloom about how bad it tastes ! All tips welcome 🙏 thank you so much

I tried to sip both of them very far back in the throat so I tasted as little as possible. The aftertaste of salt was there, but I sipped my soft drink right after to wash it out. Good luck!

All done now. 3 polyps removed.
Putting my feet up for the rest of the evening. Many thanks for all the advice on this thread. It's been really helpful.

It feels a milestone that everyone on the thread has had their colonoscopies and no one else has to endure the fruity foulness of the preps.

And all of us are here to cheer on new people who stumble on this thread, searching for tips. It's not too bad with a game plan!

Thank goodness for this thread! First colonoscopy next week and prep is plenvu. Dreading it. Been told low fibre diet for 3 days beforehand, I’m vegetarian so can’t have chicken, rice etc, but am thinking tofu should be fine, maybe done in a bit of soy sauce. Some great tips on here, thanks so much!

LoisPrice · 15/02/2026 19:23

Just booking marking for all the great tips as preparing the week after half term

LoisPrice · 26/02/2026 11:26

I must admit I was dreading taking the drink - but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. Down in two and didn't even need a straw

Which was it? I had Moviprep the first time and found it awful.

I had Plenvu last year, had heard it was worse, but found it much better. I drank sips of lemonade in-between and found it far more tolerable than Moviprep.

LoisPrice · 26/02/2026 15:51

It was picolax, it was a bit like drinking an acidic vit c drink, the type you drop the tablet in the water

LoisPrice · 27/02/2026 18:25

Well its over and it was relatively quick

the prep was fairly easy, the drink wasn't nasty and easy to take - it was pixolax
I used sanitary pads for sudden quick dashes to the loo
I had a very light diet Monday & Tuesday and stuck to the mainly protein, which helped as I didn't have much to empty come Thursday.

I did use vaseline, wet wipes and a lined bathroom bin for the wet wipes etc
I drank bovril, bouillon and eat eggs and haddock, even for breakfast

they gave me a 9/9 for my bowl prep

the only bit I found uncomfortable was the camera going round the bend, but they added extra pain relief immediately and gave me gas and air, it only last about 90 seconds and then the pain disappeared. The rest of the time I could look at the monitor and they explained which parts they were looking out. The staff were excellent. They gave me a nice cup of tea and a biscuit whilst o waited for my dp to collect me.

Thanks to all the colonoscopy graduates on this thread for all your hints and tips.
I am going to be taking Plenvu. I am a bit worried because I can’t get to the loo on my own, my husband will hoist me onto the loo for the duration! I just wondered roughly how soon after taking. Plenvu People started to poo.. straight away? One hour? Two hours.
also, is it reasonably easy to tell when you are empty. Does the fluid Coming out of you run yellow or run clear? Or is it a matter of putting on a big incontinence pad and taking a chance?
Thanks In advance

pompomtiddly · 18/03/2026 22:04

Just in case anyone has the same Questions as I did. I drank the Plenvu Each time with over a litre of water alternating the two. I was told to take an hour to do this. I was pooping within 90 minutes of starting the first dose and within an hour of starting the second. I found I Continue to poo on and off for a couple of hours, but I stayed put on the For another hour and a half as I wanted to be fairly certain I had finished as I can’t rush to get back on.
After the first dose, I was still passing pale yellow liquid when it finished working and after the second dose I only passed yellow liquid. It never went clear.
I found that ginger beer was great for taking the fake mango taste away.
Sudocrem Saved my bottom from getting sore even though it dated back to my daughter‘s childhood and she is now 22!
I lived on white bread, eggs, chicken and mash with gravy and salmon and the middle of jacket potatoes, and I drank loads of water.
It took well over an hour to do because apparently I had a lot of loops near to the hepatic flexure. I was in some discomfort after about 50 minutes so I had s gas and air and then time flew by.I got an 8/Nine for the Preparation.
they didn’t find anything of concern, so that was good.
