Turn out rates are never fantastic. I have an awful fear it will be like the Brexit vote, so many people will assume a certain outcome they won't bother voting at all.

I'd only vote if I lived in Liz Truss's constituency.
As it happens I don't, so I won't bother.
In all seriousness I don't think the current system works for many but the few at the top of society and I don't see anybody who is willing to make the huge changes we need so I won't bother.
I'll watch the coverage on the TV though.

Devonbabs · 30/04/2024 23:16

Women died so we could vote. Women were imprisoned and ostracised so we could vote.

What we don’t need to do is give that vote to anyone who can’t accurately define what a woman is. Wonder if men would be so keen to pretend to be women if we didn’t have the vote. Imagine if we still didn’t and could never get our voices heard because some men pretending to be women could vote and people used that to justify that some women could actually vote.

Yes, never missed a general election since I was 18, I've often missed the council elections, but now ds is a candidate I have to vote.

Everyone will get to vote in the general election. You're thinking of the local elections which are taking place in many counties this year. We don't have a local one this year just the police and crime commissioner one like you.

I'll probably vote tactically as we live in a Tory stronghold. Although our Tory mp just defected to Labour and will be standing down at the next GE. So i don't actually know what that means when it comes to voting.

So why is everyone talking like it's happening imminently and someone has even had a Labour canvasser out?

Thevelvelletes · 01/05/2024 02:49

Labour and hopefully a sizeable chunk of Scotland follows suit, time to be rid of the SNP corruption party.

MaeFlower · 01/05/2024 03:27

Yes. We desperately need a change of government.

Dollenganger333 · 01/05/2024 03:34

Maddy70 · 30/04/2024 18:59

Yes ill ɓe voting tactically to get rid of the tories. Probably labour

Me too.

Plus Younger people are far more interested in politics than they used to be ime.

The reason Brexit happened was because a lot of ill informed people wanted it to happen, and did vote for it to happen!. It was vastly based on racism and wanting to get rid of European migrants.

Meadowfinch · 01/05/2024 04:18

Yes, I always vote.

I haven't decided which party yet - none of them offers an intelligent, well informed set of policies so it really is going to be the best of a dreadful bunch.

I think Labour might still throw it away. I wouldn't put it past them.

BobnLen · 01/05/2024 06:06

Not sure yet for GE, probably Reform

fieldsofbutterflies · 01/05/2024 06:15

No. I don't agree with any of them.

Also, women died so that we had the right to vote, not so we could be forced to vote.

Clingfilm · 01/05/2024 06:16

Yes. Labour.

decionsdecisions62 · 01/05/2024 06:18

Yes along with the rest of my family including my daughter voting for the first time. We will all vote labour. ( so you can relay that info back to Rishi as this is clearly a fact gathering thread for a political party)

pinotnow · 01/05/2024 06:20

Yes and I'll vote Labour. I always do but feel much more comfortable doing so this time than I did in 2019.

I think people saying they 'can't' vote for any of the parties are supremely arrogant, to be honest. No one can expect a party to perfectly represent their views and this country is being utterly wrecked at the moment. I can't understand how anyone who uses any of our public services, who does any travelling on our roads or rails or even who uses a supermarket to buy food can't see that change is needed quite urgently. To see everything that's going on and say "Oh, but I don't like X policy," or "I don't agree with X that someone said on Twitter even though it's not actually a party policy anyway," is absolutely ridiculous at this point.

Just do what is needed to get these hideous Tories out, surely!

ActualCannibalShiaLeBeouf · 30/04/2024 20:34

We don't get to vote for some reason, ours is only for the Police and Crime Commissioner

Because the general election has not been called yet. It's not that you don't "get" to vote. It's just not time.

I recommend voting on the CPP too, it does make a huge difference at a local level.

galangirl · 01/05/2024 06:30

Please don't spoil your ballot paper. It's a cop out - you might as well not bother voting. The point of voting is not to voice an opinion, but to share in the responsibility of choosing who gets to run the country. Even if there are no good choices, a choice still has to be made, and spoiling your ballot paper means you are abdicating responsibility for making that choice.

Heucherarowan · 01/05/2024 06:31

ActualCannibalShiaLeBeouf · 01/05/2024 01:25

Because it is? It'll happen within the next 7 months and could be called any time.

Foggyfield · 01/05/2024 06:32

No, previously a floating voter. Not voting as reform aren't running in this area so I can't protest vote for them.

Tories have proven themselves inept at actually running the country, and have allowed ridiculous amounts of legal migration, focusing only on the 'boats', a tiny number in comparison. The infrastructure cannot possibly keep up with this level of growth, it is already failing.

Attitudes my grandmother moved to get away from for her daughter are being imported wholesale into this country and it scares me. I don't believe that the current level of salary needing to be earnt is high enough or that the number of dependants coming along is a net benefit, more of a drain on already stretched health and education services and housing.

Reform are mostly idiots who couldn't run a piss up in a brewery, but when they run here eventually I will vote then as a protest.

servedstraight · 01/05/2024 06:35

Yes. I will vote. Anything to get the tories out and the SNP.

Heucherarowan · 01/05/2024 06:35

Lots of people saying they won't bother turning out for the Police Crime Commissioner tomorrow 😕 it ALL matters and has some bearing on our lives. PCC, Locals AND the General Election.

Yes of course, imagine being a woman and giving up your right to vote. Wtf

SNP have been a blight on Scotland, the fuck ups and cover ups to numerous to list and that's before we get into the corruption.

Not voting doesn't mean you're "giving up your right to vote", though, it just means you're choosing not to use it as you don't agree with any of the choices.

Maybe they see it as exercising their right to not vote.
