Blinking Stanley Cups!

My dd's school is thinking of banning them. Too many kids losing them or getting upset if they're bashed or scratched... plus they're massive and heavy and take up a whole school bag! Has anyone else's school actually banned them yet? They're driving me mad and she insists on dragging it to school every day.

"No"

That's what parents need to learn to say.

"Can I have a stupid cup?"
"No"

Problem solved.

I bought them for my nieces and they nearly lost their minds.

Aunts can indulge these silly trends.

Rollercoaster1920 · 30/04/2024 15:36

I heard of a school that only allowed their own school waterbottles (cycling style). They were very cheap (like £3 or something) and the idea was to stop all the fad bottle nonsense. Sounds brilliant.

I'm sat here drinking from a Stanley cup that was pestered for, bought at great expense, but doesn't even have a lid that seals. So it is useless for the school journey. It is, quite literally, a cup.

Jeezitneverends · 30/04/2024 15:39

Why does it take the school banning them? Can you not just say no to the child who’s “insisting”?

SomethingIn · 30/04/2024 15:40

Oh are they getting popular in the UK now then?

I love mine but only use it as my bedside water bottle because it keeps my water cool and is massive so fits loads in

Isn’t it meant to be leakproof? Like this one?

Interestingly it looks like fake ones don’t have a seal. Gawd the price.

They don't even sell the whole colour range over here and not many places sell them

Crunchymum · 30/04/2024 15:41

Just say no in the first place.

They don't need an overpriced, overhyped cup that they'll just damage or lose.

MorrisZapp · 30/04/2024 15:45

Could the just say no crowd kindly hop it? The cup could have been a birthday present, a reward or just something fun to make a crap day better. Unless your own kids are dressed in gray and own only wooden toys ease off the lecturing.

Personally, I think those cups are preposterous but it's not parents they're aimed at. The school should ban them if they're causing issues.

Nah.

If a kid has the stupidest cup in the world, bought by a fuckwit with more money than braincells, the parent then has to learn...

"Can I take my fuckwitted cup to school mum?"
"No"

Problem solved.

The stanleys with straws leak. The newer Quench ones don't but Home Bargains also sells identical minus the logo Quench Stanley cups for £3.99

Nah.

How about parents try parenting?

Fromage · 30/04/2024 16:20

How much is a Stanley cup, in the UK?

Gawd it says £100 on that Amazon link, surely the decimal point is in the wrong place 🫣

🤣🤣🤣 this!

Seriously, buying your kids something they want is hardly a parenting fail.

My DS went on and on about an air up bottle. Got him one as his reward. He doesn't really like it now but tough. He wanted it instead of something actually useful. I'm choosing to use it as a teaching moment, be careful what you wish for

This! So many problems would not exist if the “unable to say no” to a child crowd would just hop it

Fromage · 30/04/2024 16:31

A HUNDRED QUIP FOR A CUP????

I agree we all indulge our kids a bit when we can, with whatever today's stupid must-have trend is, but you can still say no to taking the thing to school, or give her full responsibility for cleaning, refilling and packing it. Not to mention carrying it, if she doesn't.

Rollercoaster1920 · 30/04/2024 16:35

"If a kid has the stupidest cup in the world, bought by a fuckwit with more money than braincells, the parent then has to learn..."

That's me. I am both the parent and the fuckwit! I'm learning.

I'm also trying to spin it (to myself) as a learning opportunity for my child about wanting and asking for things that are not really useful.

Fromage · 30/04/2024 16:44

£45 is still a lot for a cup.

TinkerTiger · 30/04/2024 16:45

The parenting issue isn't the buying of it.

They're driving me mad and she insists on dragging it to school every day.

This is where the parenting comes in. She can use the cup at home if it's causing issues. The child will not be psychologically harmed.
