Blinking Stanley Cups!

My dd's school is thinking of banning them. Too many kids losing them or getting upset if they're bashed or scratched... plus they're massive and heavy and take up a whole school bag! Has anyone else's school actually banned them yet? They're driving me mad and she insists on dragging it to school every day.

This is how it went in my house:
"Can I have a Stanley?"
"How much are they?"
"40 pounds"
"Absolutely no way am I paying that for a school water bottle. You can have the fake one from Primark"

I saved £32 using this simple strategy.

We live in the arse end of no where. I have lots of American friends, so they all have them (back in America, I mean). I saw my first actual in the flesh stanley cup the other day on the train and all I could think was, that looks absolutely ridiculous! Do they not just leak everywhere or not fit in the box for all the water bottles?

My dd has lost every water bottle I've ever bought her, including a few of mine that she took after she lost hers. Stupid thing to buy for a child and to send to school. I don't particularly care whether schools ban them or not, but I wouldn't be buying one or sending it with my dc to school though. They can whine about it all they want. Last year it was that stupid water bottle with the flavour in it. I said no to that too, because it's also ridiculous.

I thought they were very much on the way out -obviously I've heard wrong!
Give it another 6 months tops and they won't care about them anyway. Will be another expensive, stupidly big bit of crap taking up room in your kitchen cupboard.
Any parent letting their kid take a £50 cup to school needs their head testing.

I had to google this. People are now seriously getting excited by…a cup?

I can’t even get on board with this idea that you have to carry water around with you all the time, which never seemed to cross anyone’s mind when I was young (if you were thirsty you just waited until you had a chance to get a drink). I’m not even 50 yet but shit like this makes me feel so old!

Whatever next?

They are too big. They take up twice as much space as an ordinary water bottle. Kids are filling them up when they get in the classroom because not only do they leak but a full one is heavy! So that's another job for me. Or it would be if I didn't say 'no you shouldn't have a water bottle you can't refill yourself'.

Also, parents say 'can you just make sure he drinks all his water' which I don't see as something I should be involved in anyway but I'm definitely not doing it when their cup is opaque.
