Do you believe some people have the gift of being able to talk to spirits?

I'm a non believer because nobody has ever convinced me otherwise. Even if the medium is correct on a lot if things how is it even possible for them to communicate with spirits? I'd love to hear people's opinions. This has come off the back of visiting a very well recommended so-called medium who was clutching at straws all the way through and in the end I left early & she didn't charge me!

No.
I do get asked if I am physic the answer is no not at all, I am just very good at reading body language and trust my intuition/instinct about people, it's almost like having another sense but I'm also ND which I think helps.

"They use triple blind peer reviewed studies"

Link to 5 if these triple blind studies please.

Have a look at their website. The Windbridge Institute. Should bring it up if you Google. I'm not here to try and convince anyone of anything BTW. I have answered the OP's question and explained why.

merrymelodies · 27/04/2024 18:57

They can talk... but do the spirits listen?

Noicant · 27/04/2024 18:58

No, don’t believe in woo, I do believe that there are people who genuinely believe they have some sort of gift. But they don’t.

I’m sorry to hear that your son passed away.

You are however, exactly the sort of person that these people prey on and you are vulnerable to them.

I am not vulnerable and I am also not gullible. I've simply done four years worth of extensive research in topics such as this.

You are entitled to your opinion as I am of mine.

Roomination · 27/04/2024 18:59

I would love to think it’s possible, but I don’t. Oh hang on, my late cat is just sending me a message from beyond, saying he never forgave me for the time I tried to pass of the Aldi stuff as Whiskas. Am rethinking my stance.

Batshit people, yes. No one in their right mind, though.

BaconCozzers · 27/04/2024 19:24

The thing is it's easy to mock these people/those who believe them. Maybe we shouldn't in the interests of being kind... But that said, there has never been a controlled experiment proving the existing of spirits or psychic ability, it doesn't work because not true. If there was, I'd believe it. Those who believe it, do you ever consider that? - that psychic ability has never been replicated under closed or controlled conditions? Why do you think that is?

Or Tom Selleck. You don't have connections to the YMCA do you? 😂

I wouldn't mind having a few connections with Tom Selleck, back in the day 🤣

I think there are some, not as many as advertise their services by a loooong shot. I don't think the real ones charge much, or anything, for their services and won't be even locally famous. I'm not sure about talking the to the dead thing, but I do believe that some people can pick up on stuff.

Mind you I'm a complementary therapist who works with fluffy energy. And I do tarot cards :)

ObliviousCoalmine · 27/04/2024 19:54

No. Absolute nonsense.

savethatkitty · 27/04/2024 19:59

I believe.

Yes. Genuine mediums etc are a tiny minority but they do exist.
Most of them don’t charge, or charge a very small amount.
They do it to help people.
The fakes (of which there are many) give the real ones a bad name.

How do you know this?

Fluffywigg · 27/04/2024 20:08

I’m going to be blunt… it blows my mind that an adult can actually genuinely believe that another human can contact the dead ( and not only that, but tell the future!) knowing what we do about the world and how it works.

Totally understandable a couple of hundred years ago when there wasn’t the scientific advances, but unbelievable in 2024.

Probably get flamed for this but I also feel the same about all religions and all of their gods. I can’t believe religion is still so popular given what we know scientifically. Blows my mind that so many people believe.

Josette77 · 27/04/2024 20:09

I'm always fascinated at the people who know for certain there is nothing after death. Or the people who know this is all rubbish.

I don't trust anyone who claims to know with absolute certainty about afterlife if it exists or not.

The certainty is always quite arrogant.

Why do we know scientifically that negates the existence of God?

WellThatEndedBadly · 27/04/2024 20:11

It's all nonsense but there are reasons that people believe in all sorts of 'nonsense'. Human brains aren't perfect so there is a little wooly thinking in all of us.

Think about when you roll a dice and want a six, I'll kiss the dice, cross my fingers and cheer the the dice on to roll a six. That's all bonkers isn't it but I still do it.

It the same with the 'afterlife' our brains can't cope with the reality that our brains just stop when we die. It feels easier and more comforting to believe that we carry on some way.

It's a shame when people ar dripped off by mediums. They prey on the vulnerable.

Edited

I’m always fascinated with the people that can’t grasp the concept of evolution and chose to ignore the evidence (which is all around us and is studied objectively) and proceed that the afterlife could exist and because it can’t be disproved - it must exist 🤔

How can you prove something doesn’t exist, when there is no evidence it exists in the first place…..

decionsdecisions62 · 27/04/2024 20:16

This probably isn't the forum to ask as most people here don't even have any religious beliefs let alone spiritual. Trust your own feelings. If you were suspicious then there was a reason for that.

God doesn't exist either. Just made up stories.

It depends what your definition of proved is. There has never been a single shred of evidence of the existence of god or that there is an afterlife. Not one iota of evidence. Therefore it’s nothing but a belief and a faith.

The onus is on the believers of their god to prove he/she exists.

It’s like me saying you can’t prove a unicorn doesn’t live in the sky - no one’s ever seen it, but it’s there and you can’t prove it’s not. See the illogic in that argument?

Problem with "be kind" is it allows vulnerable people to be taken advantage of. The more we tell people that it's utter fucking nonsense that someone special can speak to dead people, the fewer people will actually get conned out if their money.

It's absolutely absurd to think that mediums can talk to the dead. And hear what they're saying in their heads. It's absolutely nonsensical. The soul of your nan is somehow channeling her living thoughts through to the brain of some random person and they just happened to be able to interpret that.

There'd be literally billions of souls to wade through and want to talk to people. BILLIONS. Funnily enough the people who don't believe aren't being pestered by their dead relatives to talk to them.

No I love that!

It's like when the Little Prince asked the pilot to draw a sheep. Eventually the pilot draws a box and tells the little prince the sheep he wants is in the box.

I love science and I love biology. The world is so bloody amazing I think a God of sorts must exist. But I also accept I could be completely wrong.
