Bleach and cold water, leave to soak

ColBoulter · 27/04/2024 08:39

I use half a dishwasher tablet per mug
Boiling water, leave and then run in DW
Sparkling
Nothing worse than someone making you tea and as you drink it you see the tea stains 🤮

The Astonish stained mug powder is really good.

Helloandgoodmorning2 · 27/04/2024 08:41

Wet the cup, add a teaspoon of bicarb and use your finger to rub the ‘paste’ around the cup. It will turn a yucky brown colour, leave it for a couple of minutes and then rinse well.

NotMeNoNo · 27/04/2024 08:42

We used to ignore the stains. Many years ago MIL visited us and I came back to find her bleaching my mugs with a tablespoon of expensive concentrated washing powder in every one!

So yes Vanish, bleach, soda etc all work but you don't need the same amount for one cup as for a whole load.

Soap and the green bit of a sponge
Or
A teaspoon or two of bog standard table salt and the juice of a ¼ of lemon or lime use the inside of the fruit as a scrubber
Or
Bicarb and hot water for 5 mins
Or
½ a Milton tablet and hot water and leave to stand for 5 mins

I have a couple of soup-mugs that get discoloured from cutlery ( I think when DH stirs them ) dishwasher didn't shift them
AStonish paste on a damp cloth did the trick .

WellOwlBeDamned · 27/04/2024 08:48

I have a favourite tea mug, I prefer black tea, I drink several cups a day

frankly a chisel might be in order if I didn’t use bleach occasionally 😂

Groovee · 27/04/2024 08:51

Boiling water from the kettle abd a dishwasger table.

Willmafrockfit · 27/04/2024 08:54

i have used salt in the past @ScottBakula but didnt know lemon was meant to be involved.

Bicarb of soda made into a paste and rub well.

Azure · 27/04/2024 08:58

Laundry powder (rather than liquid) mixed in hot water and left for a bit definitely works for me.

Boomer55 · 27/04/2024 08:59

Steradent tablet, left overnight.

westcountrywoman · 27/04/2024 09:01

Milton (baby bottle steriliser). Tablets or fluid.

It's like Google does exist on here.

Am I the only one that doesn't use some kind of special products or tool? 🤔

I don’t have to on mine as I wash them straight away. DH leaves his around in special places for me to find, by which time they’re stained to hell.

Astonish have a product especially for this. Comes in a tub and you add 2 spoonfuls and hot water

Came on to say this. It's very good stuff.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/04/2024 09:07

Soda crystals work a treat.

Bankholidayhelp · 27/04/2024 09:10

Tiny bit of cif and then some sort of scrubby. I think a Brillo pad would be too harsh. I just use a mesh sponge.
Quick spray with the spray bleach so whole cup is covered, leave for a few minutes. Sometimes I top up with cold water but usually I don't. Wipe/rinse. I find that the spray bleach doesn't bleach my clothes.
Milton will work but as I'm a messy pup I'd end up with white patches on my clothes.

Nancy Birtwhistle would likely recommend bicar/lemon juice or a 'green bleach' which is I think a Milton alternative for cleaning.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 27/04/2024 09:15

Surprised no-one has said vinegar yet. Soak it, scrub it, done!

Zapss · 27/04/2024 09:15

I wipe neat bleach over the stained surface and go back later and rinse it.

Cookerhood · 27/04/2024 09:17

Either steradent or "green bleach" (sodium percar donate I think is the proper name). I think it's what's in vanish?

I always did this but found bleach made them stain worse in the long term as the china is porous. Now fill with boiling water, Ariel and stain remover.
