It's been filmed probably circulating on TIK TOK. It's shocking to us in Wales.

As a teacher in Wales I shocked and saddened.

tinytemper66 · 24/04/2024 20:19

Sorry. My post doesn't read like I am a teacher!

YeahComeOnThen · 24/04/2024 20:19

Has anyone seen any updates on those stabbed?

I work in secondary and sadly, I am not surprised.

Behaviour is most definitely out of control. Hands are tied.
The language is absolutely foul and disturbing.
Kids swear at staff all day with no qualms about it.
Fights and threatening behaviour is common.
Parents often side with their kids so staff have no backup.
Teachers are leaving in droves as are other staff.

The only thing that keeps me in my 24K a year job (as HTLA) is that there's a handful of kids who are just plain awesome, caring, hardworking, resilient (they really have to be in school nowadays), kind and fun. Credit to any parent who has raised one of the handful.

Would I home-school my own kids if it were possible?
Absolutely.

That's a hell of a leap.

Plenty of girls carry knives.

Are you actually hoping it's a trans girl??

Skillest · 25/04/2024 06:36

It's a really unusual crime for a girl to commit.

It is and should be shocking to hear this story but it seems to me schools are pressure cookers, with many stressed and stretched adults and children. What changes are we going to make to the system to make it more manageable for everyone. These huge schools ,which look air ports , with pupils with so many needs in main stream just don't seem to work for so many pupils and teachers. We keep talking about how to treat and support mental health issues , less about how to reduce the harm of the way society is organised and how we live.

I think they are. What goes on in their heads?

Unusual, but not unheard of, sadly. Listen to "I don't like Mondays".

TheShellBeach · 25/04/2024 10:19

Girls do commit knife crime.
It's not unheard of at all.

Oh FFS, that’s what the deleted post was suggesting? Some people just can’t help themselves, can they?

Certain posters seem to have forgotten the girl who stabbed Brianna Ghey.

LakeTiticaca · 25/04/2024 10:36

Lack of respect, lack of boundaries, the break down of the traditional family, (,OK, hand me my arse), parents trying to be their kids "mates"
This has been a slow burn that started (in my view) in the early 90s and grew slowly, speeding up rapidly when smartphones came into being.
Those in authority no longer have any power and have to look on helplessly while certain kids ruin it for everyone else, no punishment.
I see no way to reverse all this, it's just gone too far now.
I fear for my grandchildren, going to school with the possibility of being stabbed

IClaudine · 25/04/2024 10:48

I am Welsh, living in Wales. Stop using this awful event to attempt to further your agenda. There is no evidence at all that this was a trans girl.

There has been no information released yet about the child who did this.

Fruitless speculation is pointless.

"James Cleverly, the Home Secretary, described the stabbing as “horrifying” but reassured the public that schools in the UK are “very safe” and said violent crime had reduced significantly"

I'm not sure where the Home Secretary gets his information from. I don't think that violent crime in schools has reduced at all.

Presumably he had the same committee that looked into "safety in Rwanda" write a report.

@Youdontevengohere

OhHelloMiss
Just read it. Doesn't surprise me either

Why not? It’s hardly a regular occurrence. Awful incident and I hope all involved will be ok.

Because knife crime is spreading everywhere... I'm not surprised it's in a school in a small town. I'm just not .

I work in a prison so know a few young adults who have done similiar.

Teachers are saying they are not surprised either. No matter the motive

TheShellBeach · 25/04/2024 18:21

The girl has been charged.
And a boy has been arrested because of social media activity.

I agree. So much need but too few staff to deal with it.
I am the intervention lead and I do interventions from 8.30am until 4pm everyday with years 7-11 in groups. I have about 3 periods of PPA time during the week but other than that I am full.
I try my best but sadly, I don't even scratch the surface.
