Horses Running Free in Central London

Melontree · 24/04/2024 10:18

I just saw this breaking piece. One of the horses is bleeding/has blood on it. They're both saddled and bridled - I can't imagine what's happened here. I'm sure there'll be an explanation at some point, but I truly hope the horses and riders are okay.

Anyone in the area seen/heard anything?

Two horses, one covered in blood, run loose in central London

Metropolitan police say they are trying to locate the animals seen running near Aldwych

I think @Needanewname42 means all the horses are expected to both make a full recovery and return to duty. I don’t believe we have been given any such reassurance about the soldiers. I think one is in a fairly serious condition.

@ArthriticAardvark
I meant the riders the Horse & Hound article states one's at home and one's in hospital They are both considered likely to return to military service in the fullness of time.

When I read it again its not quite as positive as the wording for the horses. But it's still fairly positive. Fingers crossed for them both.

People who are in wheelchairs can operate a desk though can’t they. I’m not saying this is what will happen here, I just think they would be more positive if they could.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/06/2024 07:48

If there is permanent disability, it will depend on what they want as well...some prefer a clean break rather than a desk.

Needanewname42 · 07/06/2024 07:59

I hear you. Fingers crossed for them both especially the onein hospital. Its a long time to be in hospital.

Scorchio84 · 07/06/2024 08:01

@PuttingDownRoots that's so true, my ex was injured (knee related) & eventually after months of physio was given a choice, desk job or..... so he chose to leave the service, it's sad but he would have felt "less than" which is ridiculous but I suppose it's a mind set

mind you a few years before he got shot in his arse in Ukraine (before this conflict) & he skipped back to service so maybe it's an age thing? 🤔😆

But that quote is about the horses. This is the full quote -

Commanding officer of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (HCMR) lieutenant colonel Mathew Woodward said that is is “very likely” that Trojan, Tennyson and Vanquish will participate in Trooping the Colour this month.

"The remaining two, Vida and Quaker, are enjoying a summer holiday in the Chilterns thanks to The Horse Trust,” he said.

“They are expected to make a full recovery and we look forward to seeing them back on duty in due course.
Of the two most seriously injured soldiers, one is continuing his recovery at home and the other at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall. They are both considered likely to return to military service in the fullness of time.”

Yes. That quote refers to the horses.
Such a shame for the rider(s), being so badly hurt when out doing something that should have been straightforward

The last sentence refers to the riders, which is what I quoted.

The Independent says the soldiers are expected to make a full return to service. Which sounds marginally more positive that H&H.

But it's still a long time to be in hospital. I know people who've had broken vertibare and spinal surgery and been out of hospital within a couple of weeks.
