What’s the word for when more is expected of you than what you do

….. but you’ve accepted that what you do is enough, and you’re happy with that.

”Self …….. ??”

That feels like separate questions

Do you feel fulfilled? content?

Are others more ambitious for you?

Mynameisntslimshady · 19/04/2024 11:52

You're content or self confident with who you are.

Heliss · 19/04/2024 11:53

Self-acceptance

Giddygoose26 · 19/04/2024 11:53

If it's work related, do you mean quiet quitting?

BigMandyHarris · 19/04/2024 12:23

Not work related, almost always personal.

example: you take a child to visit a grandparent twice a week. GP complains it’s not enough but you know that if you went 3 times they would still think it wasn’t enough. You’re satisfied that you visit often enough and are comfortable with that decision no matter how much they complain. So you’re self ……

Self Acceptance doesn’t really cover it as that’s a more general acceptance of your character, faults and all.

I feel like there should be a specific word but I don’t think there is

Satisfied?

Purplevioletsherbert · 19/04/2024 12:25

Self assured?

Fizzadora · 19/04/2024 12:27

Confident... and tell grandparent (or whoever it is) to stop being entitled.

Durdledore · 19/04/2024 12:29

I’d call that having good, healthy boundaries.

WhiteLeopard · 19/04/2024 12:31

Durdledore · 19/04/2024 12:29

I’d call that having good, healthy boundaries.

This

WhiteLeopard · 19/04/2024 12:31

Or good self-esteem.

BigMandyHarris · 19/04/2024 12:32

Self Satisfied indicates smugness I think
Self Assured - maybe!

I have a few friends/family at the moment who seem to keep giving into the demands of others, and yet it’s still not enough. I want them to understand that so long as they’re happy with what they’re doing then they should feel ok about it, and not permanently quilty

NuffSaidSam · 19/04/2024 12:33

I think self assured or self satisfied or maybe self confident.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 19/04/2024 12:33

Self-validating

ATerrorofLeftovers · 19/04/2024 12:33

Also self-determining

Giddygoose26 · 19/04/2024 12:34

Sounds also like self preservation to me!

user1471459476 · 19/04/2024 12:36

I'm not sure about it starting with self, I would say comfortable with your own decisions

Avatartar · 19/04/2024 12:36

Yes self preservation- if you know extra visits per your example would not be enough, then you are saving yourself stress by not trying to chase a rainbow that has no end

Magicmagician · 19/04/2024 12:38

I think assertive covers it

MILTOBE · 19/04/2024 12:42

But assertive is the action rather than the feeling.

Riverlee · 19/04/2024 12:43

Self assured
satisfied

MILTOBE · 19/04/2024 12:43

Do you mean something like resolute or steadfast?

I don't think one word is going to do it, but I've had a great time looking at German words!

Itradehorses · 19/04/2024 12:45

Depends whose POV you take. Your POV = smart. Your employer's POV = idle. The question is, whose POV matters most to you 😂

Acunningruse · 19/04/2024 12:46

Self-preservation

SOxon · 19/04/2024 12:50

OP you said it yourself already - an unrealistic expectation
