How much do you pay for a dental check up and a hygiene appointment (scale & polish)?

Me - £125 total

I pay £21 a month for two check ups and two hygienist visits a year. A separate hygienist visit is £84. I imagine it would be about £150 plus without a monthly plan.

FadedRed · 18/04/2024 13:21

Last time I went it was £100, which I was a bit 😲 at. That was 5 months ago.

BasilParsley · 18/04/2024 13:36

Hygienist £70, check up with x-rays £88.50 a month or so ago

I have a dental plan at £16 a month. This gives me 2 check ups and 2 dental hygienist appts every year.

unsync · 18/04/2024 13:54

£93.85 in February this year.

FlexIt · 18/04/2024 13:55

£175 without X-rays

LadyDanburysHat · 18/04/2024 13:55

Check up is free, NHS in Scotland. Last time I saw the hygienist it was around £12.

jackstini · 18/04/2024 13:56

About £22, twice a year

Overthebow · 18/04/2024 13:57

£160 a year for 2 x check ups and 2 x hygienists a year, through my work benefits.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 18/04/2024 13:58

Those of you with dental plans. Have you bought them privately or are they through work as a group benefit (ie you still pay some cost)? Any recommendations for providers? Thanks

burnoutbabe · 18/04/2024 13:59

Dentist £28 now via nhs

The hygienist £85 per visit and I go 3 times a year. But I have lots of plaque.

Mine was free but the dentist was downright shoddy. Was recommended this place via family who are in the profession. They often run late and I think they rush a little. But overall they are better than my former dentist who saw NHS, Denplan & private patients.

About 15 min, maybe a little under for scale and polish - £69. Check up will be even quicker & £56. I'm lucky I can afford it, easier than hunting an elusive NHS dentist I suppose.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 18/04/2024 14:31

I pay £21 per month for two check ups and four hygienist visits a year. Also includes 10% off any dental treatment required (excluding cosmetic dentistry) and covers me for emergency treatment while away from home.

mitogoshi · 18/04/2024 14:35

£26 ish for a check up, hygienist charges £50 for 30 mins or £80 for an hour

AllBlackEverything · 18/04/2024 14:36

I pay £25 per month for two check ups and two hygenist visits per year, plus 10% off all treatments, including cosmetic. This also covers my two children for routine check ups too, under 16s are free with my plan.

mitogoshi · 18/04/2024 14:36

That's nhs dentist, hygienist works 2 days per week privately

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 18/04/2024 14:36

£160.95 for the 2 combined.

Blanketpolicy · 18/04/2024 14:52

Just been to back to back checkup and hygienist appointments this week total was £117.

It wasn't itemised, but think it was around £40ish for a check up, £70ish for hygienist.

I was in for about an hour and they did very thorough jobs - checking, scrapping, poking, measuring/recording, cleaning, polishing, talking through an area of concern (some gum inflammation) and flossing techniques to use for that area - my jaw was aching after it!

BooseysMom · 18/04/2024 14:57

NHS dentist charges £25 for check up and £45 for hygienist which seems very reasonable compared to some mentioned here

DontknowwhatI · 18/04/2024 15:05

Can you please share any links for the dental insurance.
