It could be amazing with a lot of work and modern furniture. I like the rocking horse 🐎

ALunchbox · 16/04/2024 17:47

It's a snapshot of the 60s. I like that the owners kept it as it is rather than constantly keep up with trends and throw away furniture etc as they went along. Good on them.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 16/04/2024 17:48

I like it, and I like the furniture*.

I’d only consider the house if they left all the book shelves.

*Hangs head in shame at my appalling interior design taste.

It's a massive 60s/70s box that looks like someone turned a leisure centre into a house, leaving the swimming pool and changing rooms. You know it's bad when there's no photo of the kitchen. Vast, and kind of soulless.

I did the full tour the kitchen is clean, functional. It's an interesting tour

I think I'd buy the furniture and open a kitsch hotel for sporting guests.

And the books 😂

Moveoverdarlin · 16/04/2024 18:07

Will cost an absolute bomb to get that anywhere near my dream home.

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 16/04/2024 18:09

It looks like it should be a school to me rather than a home.

Wouldn't want to pay the heating bill on that place, or have to clean the windows either.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/04/2024 18:21

I love it. All that wood, such a huge garden, mature trees. I just took a quick look at the tour and the kitchen seems absolutely tiny, but there's so much space that could no doubt be remedied.

minipie · 16/04/2024 18:25

There are loads of people putting mid century furniture into Victorian houses. They don’t get criticised!

This one’s just the other way round.

longtompot · 16/04/2024 18:33

I'm with you @stripeyreds0cks That could look incredible. The layout is exactly what I've been looking for (ample living space and downstairs bedrooms and studios for my dds) and not over £1 mil! Where I am that would be about £3 mil.

I did too. Didn't make it any better, the kitchen looks like it's in an institution. The metal edging of the cabinets reminded me very much of what Ben did to the flat kitchen on Interior Design Masters last week!

It does look amazing. I wouldn't necessarily furnish and decorate it the way the current owners have, but it's their house and their choices, so I really don't see the issue. If you buy it from them, then it's your house, and you're free to have the interior however you like it.

Not wanting to derail, but I never understand why indoor swimming pools in private houses bother to give space over to having actual purpose-designed changing rooms alongside them. Wouldn't you just use your own bedroom - or strip off at the poolside or just swim naked, if it's just you and your family?!

Someone may have already replied but a pool near me rents out the pool space to baby swim classes. Also has a annexe they air bnb and have pool slots for.

So separate hanging areas will be desirable if renting out the pool

HullaBallu · 16/04/2024 18:38

Oh, I love that. It's classic mid-century, and so many original features. I love all the bookcases and the big windows and the wood.

MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique · 16/04/2024 18:38

NigelHarmansNewWife · 16/04/2024 17:42

Because you invite people over, including your kids' friends?

Fair enough. I'd have thought they could change in a bedroom too, but I suppose if space really isn't an issue, you may as well stick a changing room or two in!

BettyShagter · 16/04/2024 18:42

The wood looks like cheap 1970s MDF, even if it isn't.

Horrible.

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2024 18:42

It is lovely.
I think I'd have to get rid of the yellow bathroom , but with six others to choose from I could live with that !

Shinyeyes · 16/04/2024 18:44

That could be amazing for the right family. I'm not sure about Markinch though. I always thought it was a bit run down, but saw some beautiful houses last time I went by on the train. I think that was Markinch anyway.

I'd love to know about the owners.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 16/04/2024 18:46

I'll grant the location is incredible but I'm shuddering at all that orange wood 😬

ItsFuckingBoringFeedingEveryoneUntilYouDie · 16/04/2024 18:48

'Needs modernising' would be my way of looking at it.

I would use bedroom 7 for myself, knock through the changing room and be able to leap out of bed and run naked straight into the pool in the morning. 🤣

There is a lot of potential in it, but that means a lot of work too

HullaBallu · 16/04/2024 18:48

DH and I looked at a house not dissimiliar to that a couple of years ago, and completely fell in love with it - the family who'd built it back in the 60s were selling, reluctantly, and much of it was still as it had been. The only red flag was that the construction was 'non-traditional', so a lot of concrete, and that might have caused problems with the mortgage company...

Wood like that isn't usually quite as orange in real life - it doesn't photograph well IME.

Exactly the price of that teak vintage ercol and parker knoll stuff is through the roof.

RotundCheese · 16/04/2024 19:44

It's lovely inside! I love the panelling, the staircase, etc. Also like the yellow bathroom. I'd swap the sofas out for sure, but the bones are exactly to my taste.

DrJoanAllenby · 16/04/2024 20:09

It looks like a twilight home at the moment.

The only thing I like about it is the 5 acres of land.

I would knock it down and build a new house.
