Some refuse to admit that Brexit has been a massive failure.
They continue to stick their fingers in their ears and ignore the obvious
Very sad

But fewer and fewer according to surveys. Unmitigated disaster and now many of those who voted for it agree. I hope they feel sick with guilt

@Geebray But that is just one aspect. A lot of people regret Brexit for reasons which have nothing to do with exports!

Geebray · 11/04/2024 20:25

Well here's the thing. If we had stayed in the EU, and had risen to be the fourth largest exporter in the world, remainers would have been all "See! We couldn't have done that if we had left the EU!"

So some of us will take our moment, thanks 😀

But no, it's all got to be doom and gloom, that's the narrative.

Kendodd · 11/04/2024 20:27

I don't know anyone who regrets Brexit, They all love and got to show Jonny Foreigner who's boss.
I suspect numbers of Brexit supporters falling because they are dying off rather than changing their minds.

ByUmberViewer · 11/04/2024 20:32

I regret voting Brexit.

We were lied to.

And no, we are not to blame for being lied to. The ones at fault are the ones who told the lies, not the ones who believed them.

Geebray · 11/04/2024 20:33

I suspect there are increasing numbers of people who don't "regret" Brexit because the generations are moving on and up.

I think all Remainers thought all subsequent generations would be on "their side", whereas in fact they're just getting on with things.

I don't regret voting Brexit. I was against being in an increasingly federalist EU. And that is the way it is going.

All the young people I know are really angry about Brexit and the rights and opportunities Leave voters took off them. They have become second class Europeans with a big gap in opportunities between those young adults who have an EU passport and those who don't.

LlynTegid · 11/04/2024 20:55

There are at least 20,000 people who if any of them voted Leave, do not have the opportunity to regret it.

We ended up with Boris Johnson the serial killer in all but name because of his neglect over the pandemic, which would not have happened were it not for Brexit.

If you were on here, you were also told the truth. Repeatedly and very loudly.

If you lived somewhere with only one source of information and state-controlled, fair enough. But you don't. People were begging pro-Brexit types to do some reading and inform themselves. If you ever used the phrase, "project fear" you were the issue.

You might want to look at the covid statistics for Scotland and Wales. Do you want to call Sturgeon and Wakeford serial killers as well?

Medschoolmum · 11/04/2024 21:04

Well, I think lots of us knew that people were going to regret it eventually, because the sunlit uplands that people thought they were voting for were never actually going to materialise. Plenty of people did warn that if was a bad idea, of course, but I guess people heard what they wanted to hear and blocked out the rest.

What was interesting to me about that graph in the Economist, though, was how quickly people started to realise. It looks like the tide started to turn very soon after the referendum, before I would have really expected it to.

Yeah, and then they all voted to 'get Brexit done' and this was after everybody knew it meant ripping up a peace treaty.

Didn't the fact that Donald trump and Vladimir putin were pro brexit give you any pause for thought?

My only comfort is that brexshit voters are suffering along with the rest of us

Subsequent generations are not just getting on with things like free movement of labour , travel without restrictions and the Erasmus programme.

Of course they are getting on with things, because what else can they do? Sit there forlornly, being angry with their fellow countrymen?

However, there is no denying that it was the biggest voluntary loss of human rights in the history of mankind and I, for one, am trying to help my children navigate their way around this as they approach adulthood. This is, for those who wanted to experience life outside of the UK, but who only hold a UK passport, undeniably harder.

So yes, they are getting on with it, but that doesn't mean that they are in a better situation, because they really are not.

OldWiseNowTwiceTheSize · 12/04/2024 08:14

How many people voted in that poll? Think that's quite important to know.

But those of us who voted remain were able to see the lies forbear they were. It was so bleeding obvious. Why were you so naive? How did you not see how ridiculous the claims were?

Yes, I do. But thank you for being so patronising.

The level of dissatisfaction on that graph is clearly dropping. And the level agreeing with Brexit is rising. Do you not understand how graphs work?
