Please recommend me a car

I’m going round in circles.

I need 5 seats with a decent amount of space in the back as 2 car seats and a large boot (as in shopping and a large dog big)

No MPVs but would prefer something a bit higher up. Would consider an estate if big enough in the back!

Must be reliable as I can’t afford any more car bills. Will probably have to go PCP on something around about 10-15k so not brand new.

No land rovers as my last one bankrupt me. I also dislike Peugeot, Renaults and Citroens thanks to terrible work vehicles.

Any thoughts please?

passat

muddyford · 11/04/2024 17:51

I'm on my second Ford C-Max. I take two dogs with ease, behind the back seats, and luggage for two adults three weeks self-catering.

biddybid73 · 11/04/2024 18:06

Kia Sportage

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 11/04/2024 19:36

Kia Sportage, lots of space.

Treacletoots · 11/04/2024 19:38

Vw Id.3. Surprisingly roomy, a little bit higher up thanks to the battery being underneath. Saves a fortune on fuel. Boring but very reliable and rapid.

WonderingWanda · 11/04/2024 19:41

I have a Volvo XC60 which I love.

goldenretrievermum5 · 11/04/2024 19:44

I’ve had 2 VW Tiguans - very roomy and reliable. Interestingly enough I actually preferred our 2015 model to the 2020 one so if I was you I’d be looking at the older (and cheaper) version. The quality was far better

ArcticBells · 11/04/2024 19:46

Dacia Duster. Enormous boot. Inexpensive to buy.

Mummyofthewildones · 11/04/2024 19:46

Love my kia sportage.

AnOpinionInTheHand · 11/04/2024 20:01

I’ve just bought a ŠKODA karoq and I’m in love with it. Absolutely huge boot (bigger than sportage) and mine has varioflex seats which you can fold up or remove entirely which has already come in handy. It’s got a bit of oomph, it’s a responsive drive and it’s the most comfy car I’ve ever sat in

theteddybear · 11/04/2024 20:05

Honda civic. Plenty of room in the back and a huge boot. It's also a lovely looking car. Quite low down though if that cld be an issue.

I've had a lot of cars I usually buy from new and keep for 2-3yrs. The Honda civic was the one I didn't want to hand back it was on a lease. I had it when youngest was a baby up until about age 2. So I had 2 proper bulky car seats in the back and pram/buggy in the boot.

Also had a Kia ceed which was nice but not quite as big.

Jeannie88 · 11/04/2024 20:14

I'm a Peugeot fan, you get a lot for your money and the bigger models have loads of space. Xx

Bluevelvetsofa · 11/04/2024 21:52

My Karoq was one of my top three favourite cars. They might be out of price range though.

What about the Volvo v60 cross country. It’s higher than the standard estate (so gives you the ride height you want) but has all the space benefits of an estate car. It had a face lift a few years ago but I think you could pick up some pre face lift versions for your budget.

Mumaway · 11/04/2024 21:55

Toyota RAV4 conventional hybrid Or corolla estate? Super reliable, economical.

Kneeslikethese · 11/04/2024 21:56

We have a Dacia Duster. Fits what you want.

Elfie23 · 11/04/2024 22:04

I've got a Ford Puma, boot is massive with a 'mega box' basically like a two tier boot as you don't have a spare wheel - my almost 10 year old can climb in the mega box, lay down and I can put the lid over her and she's pretty tall! 🤣

Plenty of space in the back for 3 kids or two adults and a small one in the middle.
I've got the 1.0 Ecoboost ST Line MHEV which I think is roughly the same as a normal 1.6 engine. Awesome petrol wise on long journeys and just pottering around town a tank lasts about a month x

Totally agree, Ford C-Max is a great car. Solid, reliable, loads of space in the boot but doesn't feel really massive to drive. We have had three and they are the cars we take to IKEA when we want to buy a flat pack wardrobe or something but also need to fit two adults and two kids in the car 😁

Maneandfeathers · 12/04/2024 09:20

Thankyou everyone! DH has a galaxy hence not another MPV.

Loads of good suggestions! Really interested in the RAV hybrid but I’ll look into them all 😃

I love my Volvo xc40, I have 2 teens and 2 dogs and there is plenty of space for us, drives really nice and because it’s a Volvo I just feel very safe in it. I’ll definitely get another when it’s time to upgrade my car, although had this one 5 years now and still looks and feels like a brand new car to me so suspect I will keep it a good while

Jamiedodgers · 12/04/2024 09:25

Skoda octavia

Mondeo estate. Boot is massive and I can sit between the two car seats comfortably (I'm a size 14).

or the Honda HRV for a higher driving position. Or the CRV if you want something bigger.

Definitely C Max. Mine's 19 years old and still going strong. Proper work horse of a car.
