Anyone still got leftover food from Christmas?

We have a carton of long-life tomato juice in the back of the fridge. I had some notion of making fancy drinks with it but never did.
The cheese was finally all finished sometime in March.
Last year we had Christmas Pudding in July because I was fed up of it hanging around in the cupboard - there is a surprisingly long use-by date on Christmas puds. We once bought one labelled "6-months matured" and kept it a whole year, still in date, so had it 18-months matured!

Anyone else still got Christmas food left? (Apart from bottles of spirits which can sit there for decades - obvs).

Recently discovered a very fancy jar of Christmas Chutney (unopened) in the fridge. What a treat!

Mummyofthewildones · 07/04/2024 21:56

I polished off the last 2 things in my selection box in my desk drawer last week at work!

An unopened 1l bottle of Bailey’s. I had flu so didn’t fancy it and everyone else had other things.

a 1l bottle of Bacardi we won at a raffle at new year.

an open jar of mint sauce that gets bought every fucking year which they use once with the Christmas dinner then sits all year (under their illusion they will want it with a roast at some point) which I then have to throw away the day Christmas shop comes the next year comes with a new one.

half a jar of of bisto onion gravy which will definitely get used

about 10 crackers in a Tupperware box!

no chocolate or snacks as I was really trying to be good about not going mental last year. Oh except for 1 small packet of nuts

I forgot I have a litre bottle of Baileys. I don't drink it, but I'm giving it to someone for their birthday, they love it and will be delighted with it.

QuickFetchTheCoffee · 07/04/2024 22:44

I have a box of medjool dates and some marzipan to stuff them with, two jars of mincemeat and a bottle of Shloer that nobody will share with me. Yes I'd prefer it to be wine but it is what it is.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 07/04/2024 22:45

Most of a bottle of brandy, used in the cake.

Had a Tesco finest chocolate panettone with a best before date of May 24

To use it up, made this to have at Easter lunch- it was 😋

https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/easychocolateetrifle14206

Also had three tubs (mini cheddars, twiglets and mini cheddar Christmas trees: These also had May 24 dates. Ate the trees today, and will finish off the others soon.

CandidFruit · 07/04/2024 22:48

Yep, panettone here too!

Pourmeanotherwine · 07/04/2024 22:51

I think there's a bottle of mulled wine in the cupboard. And I've just opened a nice tin of shortbread that I bought for my brother but then didn't see him as I had covid ( he lives abroad and was over staying with my parents for a few days).

I'll pop round to share the lot with you, you can even have my Baileys

😂I love Bailey's (prefer it to wine tbh) so you're welcome at mine any time @Redshoeblueshoe

Do nuts generally have a long use-by date?

If you've kept them in the fridge they would still be good, but nut oils can go rancid if stored elsewhere.

mathanxiety · 07/04/2024 23:10

I have frozen stock and stuffing.

Also a little chocolate that nobody knows about.

Sweets

Fifthtimelucky · 07/04/2024 23:45

I still have a panettone left. I meant to bring it out at Easter, but forgot! I also still have a couple of boxes of Elizabeth Shaw and Bendicks chocolate mints.

I am very good at keeping things when they are unopened. Once I open them, they'll be gone in a couple of days (like the box of Monty Bojangles truffles I found a couple of weeks ago)!

Sgtmajormummy · 08/04/2024 00:28

Bisto chicken gravy granules and a bottle of dry sparkling wine.
My glacé cherries and candied peel are from when I made my own mincemeat 2(3?) Christmases ago.
I also buy my annual roll of kitchen foil at Christmas (don’t want to be caught short!) and I’m still on the one from 2022.

GellerYeller · 08/04/2024 00:42

Twiglets(hidden, forgot about them)
Pretzels(DH’s favourite, he must not have spotted them)
half a tin of Quality Street(only me that likes them)
After Eights(had one each after Christmas dinner. They should make smaller packs again)

caringcarer · 08/04/2024 00:56

I've got some turkey in the freezer and we opened a tin of shortbread over Easter that was from Xmas. When adult DC comes home at Xmas I send them home with a tub of sweets or tin of shortbread or anything that doesn't get eaten by New Year.

DilemmaDelilah · 08/04/2024 04:51

2 packets of mixed biscuits for cheese, from the Christmas before last! I'm sure they are really stale by now. A couple of little waxed truckles of cheese, again from the Christmas before last. A couple of Christmas puddings, but to be fair they last for ever and we really like Christmas pudding.

We didn't really have Christmas last time - no family coming, just DH and me, and I really wasn't very well. DH also seems to have gone off cheese!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 08/04/2024 08:40

Couple of boxes of fancy biscuits
Box of shortbread
Fancy M&S tin of shortbread
Huge jar of jelly beans
Large chocolate penguins from hotel chocolat
Tin of Hotel Chocolat truffles
There's probably other sweets/chocolate left over in the cupboard too.

I think we may have overestimated how much crap we were going to eat at Christmas 😄
Plus I'm now on a major diet.
