Anyone still got leftover food from Christmas?

We have a carton of long-life tomato juice in the back of the fridge. I had some notion of making fancy drinks with it but never did.
The cheese was finally all finished sometime in March.
Last year we had Christmas Pudding in July because I was fed up of it hanging around in the cupboard - there is a surprisingly long use-by date on Christmas puds. We once bought one labelled "6-months matured" and kept it a whole year, still in date, so had it 18-months matured!

Anyone else still got Christmas food left? (Apart from bottles of spirits which can sit there for decades - obvs).

I have 16 bottles of J20, 2 boxes Jacobs biscuits for cheese, a small Christmas cake in the freezer and some frozen turkey breast.

Thatsthewayitisnt · 07/04/2024 19:22

Frozen mince pies.

Marmite27 · 07/04/2024 19:22

Two packs of the mini pigs in blankets in the freezer, a couple of the chocolate pouches, an unopened jar of cranberry sauce as we bought two in error, a couple of tubes of Pringles, which I regretted not packing for our holiday last week when I was charged €5 for a tube on a cruise ship! (Eldest had given them up for lent and they were in place of an Easter egg).

Oh and a pack of mince pies bb4 May 2024 and a pack of individually wrapped Mr Kipling Christmas cake slices. There should be two of those, but DH ate one.

We occasionally like to do Christmas in July, so I like to be prepared.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/04/2024 19:25

We went away on 27th December so it was all finished by then. We have nice things throughout December but I no longer over buy.

I did notice 4 crackers in the cupboard this weekend though!

Yetmorebeanstocount · 07/04/2024 19:31

Do you mean cracker you pull, not biscuits? I usually have some left over so put them in the loft with the Xmas decs for the next year.

A small Christmas cake. I got knowing that everybody prefers other things for dessert but with the sense that if I didn't get it then perhaps I was missing something really essential that might be required to somehow...insure that Christmas was complete? Who knows. It's still there, relegated to the cupboard in the en-suite, looking sorry for itself and I ignore it with the king of guilt I can normally only summon for an overdue library book.

😁
It took me many years to realise I didn't have to buy all the "traditional" things just for the sake of it. I am getting better at just buying what I know we will eat.

I make 3 fruit cakes and ice one for Christmas and one for New Year, leaving one to mature for either Easter or my birthday some weeks after. This year, with both children now at university (so not home for long), plus I wasn't well over Christmas, we found one fruit cake was plenty. So we've just had the "new year" cake for Easter and I'm still looking forward to my birthday cake :) Have promised myself to make the cakes earlier this year, it's definitely benefitted from the maturing time. I bought brandy soaked mixed fruit reduced after Christmas, having done that last year and saved myself money and effort.

Besides that, still some turkey in the freezer for a stirfry or two, and bones for stock that will gradually be used up.

Yetmorebeanstocount · 07/04/2024 19:35

How on earth do you manage to have any left over chocolate after about Jan 3rd?
😯

Either you buy a LOT or you have more self-control than me.
Chocolate just goes...

An unopened box of oatmeal crackers and some turkey in the freezer.

Eminybob · 07/04/2024 19:47

I have one portion of braised red cabbage in the freezer. The recipe makes a huge batch so I usually freeze 3-4 portions, this year I made half the recipe so only have 1 portion left.

There are also a random pack of pigs in blankets in the freezer, probably should eat them soon.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 07/04/2024 19:50

Funnily enough I had a feezer clearout and just threw the last of mine away this morning. I figured no-one was going to eat a four month old Clementine and Negroni sorbet now.

I would, sounds lovely

Mrspatmoresspoon · 07/04/2024 20:15

Might make a bread and butter pud with the panettone with loads of cream and some marmalade

CrushingOnRubies · 07/04/2024 20:15

Lots of Christmas chocolate and the poinsettia is alive but on its last legs

Turmerictolly · 07/04/2024 20:16

Xmas puds, use by date of April so need to scoff soon.

Mossstitch · 07/04/2024 20:46

isitbananatimealready · 07/04/2024 21:38

Confused

soupfiend · 07/04/2024 21:41

Bread sauce in the freezer from a couple of years ago
Xmas pudding from xmas just gone
Slices of strawberry and white chocolate roulade

Stickyricepudding · 07/04/2024 21:45

I found some twiglets in Christmas packaging. Is everyone going to buy less Christmas food in December this year?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 07/04/2024 21:48

A lot of turkey!

BarrelOfOtters · 07/04/2024 21:50

Pudding I bought half price after Christmas…it’s a local artisan one that is tasty but eye wateringly expensive (£25) full price. It’ll be fine next Christmas.

had some frozen bread sauce and stuffing we ate last week with chicken.

Saisong · 07/04/2024 21:54

Still have a big tin of Quality Street unopened. The kids opened the smaller one at Xmas and it speaks volumes that they have not reached for the other yet!

We ate the panettone for Easter, and I threw away the last of the dusty nuts last week.
