Bean to cup coffee machines

Do you recommend?

I have a nespresso & thinking of getting a bean to cup machine. If you have one, do you recommend? I want to be sure it would be worth the cost, they're pretty expensive!

I did a thread on better coffee a few days ago and my coffee is much improved with only the equipment I already had! Lidl beans, cheapish grinder, moka pot and a milk frother ☕️

may buy a posh machine one day but for now this will do very nicely

Sorry, what infuser thing do I need to soak as I never have?!!!!!!

😂the bit that comes out when open the front and squeeze the red buttons. The machine needs to be off or it won’t come out. This thing. Don’t use soapy water or it breaks it. Soak for about 10 mins.

Also recommend De’longhi Magnifica, much better than the pod machine we had before.

HelenHywater · 04/04/2024 20:01

I had the delonghi magnifica one and didn't like it at all. I am saving for a Sage bean to cup instead.

In the meantime, I find my Aeropress makes the best coffee. I have a separate milk frother although usually drink it black. (Unless decaff which somehow tastes better with milk).

We have a Delonghi Autentica. It says it’s £631 on Amazon but I’m sure we only paid about £400.

We love ours - wouldn’t be without it (it’s our second). The only thing I find with this one is the milk doesn’t get very hot so I always end up using the microwave to heat it. The last one we had had a milk wand and that was better for getting the milk the right temperature.

CormorantStrikesBack · 04/04/2024 20:09

@Boopear I had no idea that came out :) Do I just submerge it? And then leave it out to dry off?

AndyPandyismyhero · 04/04/2024 20:11

I have this one. I love it. Don't alway use the milk frother, but when I do, it makes a good froth - there are several levels to choose. I am the only one who drinks coffee here and I get through probably two bags of beans a month. I couldn't go back to instant or even a pod machine now.

Another Magnifica owner here. I'd save it first if the house went on fire. I have my Nespresso in the spare room in case anything happens to the Magnifica.

Boopear · 04/04/2024 20:26

@CormorantStrikesBack pretty much 😀. Makes coffee taste loads better as well..

Searchingforsunshine · 04/04/2024 21:06

We have a delonghi, bean to cup can be pricey, try ebay for a refurbished one.

caringcarer · 04/04/2024 21:20

We have the Delongi Magnifica too. We love it. I get vanilla beans and add to Lavazza ones. When my son left home I bought him one.

vincettenoir · 04/04/2024 21:25

I don't have one and think about getting one from time to time.

The reason I haven't so far is because I know I would still buy plenty of coffees out and about and also I have heard if they break they can be a nightmare to get repaired.

But it would be great to have a nice coffee first thing in the morning.

LoobyDop · 04/04/2024 21:25

We have a DeLonghi Prima Donna. The name is very accurate- it’s a high maintenance madam- but the coffee is absolutely consistently better than I’ve had in most coffee shops.

I have a delonghi magnifica and it’s really good

Same here, no capsules - and coffee grounds go straight into the garden. More expensive to buy originally but so worth it and so much more ecological. I have had mine for over 10 years- going strong.

And me, great!

And me (well, my DP as I don't like coffee). It's the single most prized possession in the house.

Auntieobem · 04/04/2024 21:37

We have a delonghi dinamica, love it. It stopped working one evening - cue mad dash to Curry's to get a new one before they closed. Wouldn't be without it. We get 1kg of beans a fortnight from a local independent roaster.

Folk in work don't think I like coffee - refuse to drink instant.

minipie · 04/04/2024 21:42

Sage Barista Express Impress here. It’s like a proper barista machine but it has built in checks that help you get the right amount of coffee, right grind etc. So much easier than a fully manual machine. Love it so much, one of our best purchases.

BobnLen · 04/04/2024 21:44

I have a Smeg one, it's quite small if space is tight. I'm very pleased with it but I managed to get it for about £270 in the BF sales, they are usually about £600-£700 so quite pricey. It's on that Good Housekeeping list linked above. Coffee machines are a thing that sometimes have quite big reductions on them.

Howlsatthemuna · 04/04/2024 21:52

My (unbelievably generous) brother bought me one for my birthday a few years ago - I absolutely love it and if it ever breaks on me I’ll be buying a new one the same day.

tobee · 04/04/2024 22:02

Have a delonghi eletta which I got for Christmas. Automatic milk frother of various thickness , different sizes, strengths, types of coffee - all good. Cleans itself. Use every day

👍

N0tfinished · 05/04/2024 10:57

Ok thanks so much! You've convinced me. I'm going to go for the Delonghi Magnifica, will hunt around for the best deal xx

Same. I always read these threads to see if we could improve but we love what we have. Dead cheap in comparison and great coffee.

Now, I have a Delonghi Magnífica and want to love it but the milk frother is a touch disappointing.
Sometimes I get good foam but other times it's just warm diluted milk. What am I doing wrong?

You can get either hot water or steam out of the nozzle so sounds like you're sometimes getting water rather than steam? I think you have to wait for the 'steam' button to stop blinking and go 'solid' to produce steam.
