Do you think there's ANYTHING at all on Mumsnet that people won't argue about?

I mean anything at all? 🤣 Names, cities, dogs, cats, clothes, pasta (of all things), the list is endless. Man, I love this place. 😀

I sometimes find that the style & beauty threads are the worst for this. The £1.5k handbag thread is a good example, rather than people just ignoring it if they have nothing useful to add, they feel the need to come on and berate people for their spending choices and act all sanctimonious by saying they would give it to charity, and then argue with anyone who tells them they missed the point of the thread. It happens so often

😂😂

Or whether Yorkshire pudding or red cabbage or cauliflower cheese go with Christmas dinner?

(A big ‘no’ to all three imho!)

I can understand cauliflower cheese (it doesn’t mix well with gravy), but no red cabbage or Yorkshire puds?

IncognitoMam · 03/04/2024 11:12

Where's the pasta thread?

Fizbosshoes · 03/04/2024 11:16

I had no idea how other people's (as in prople they dont know!) washing/hygeine/bedding habits could illicit such strong feelings.

And I never knew I was potentially being judged when I went out with wet hair!

Did no one read the recent 'air fresheners' thread?
Very nasty.

😆

Well I think you are completely wrong

The paper plate one was my favourite recently, anyone who uses a paper plate is responsible for the demise of the planet - just use the dishwasher instead 😂

That one even made the papers.

EatCrow · 03/04/2024 11:37

What’s it got to do with you though?
Idiot 😠

🫣

IncognitoMam · 03/04/2024 11:41

Thanks I found it anyway. No thanks to pp 🤬

😉

The one's when people come on and disagree with someone so just say 'ignore the idiots' or 'ignore [insert poster here]', this is what you should do. etc. Baffling. 😂

I have done this but mainly on constipation threads ,because some of the idiotic advice given is actually quite dangerous
I have years dealing with my son who suffers with chronic constipation and my advice is normally to go to Pharmacy/Gp

LlynTegid · 03/04/2024 11:48

Surely debate is one of the points of MN? Or have I missed something.

There are of course some things that I wish were never the subject of debate and differences of opinion. A jaffa cake being a biscuit for example.

the80sweregreat · 03/04/2024 11:54

It's the aggression sometimes that I struggle with ( mostly on the aibu threads)
I suppose it's difficult to read a thread and not hear the 'tone ' it's meant to be read with. If that makes any sense. Reading texts from other people is the same too , if you're in a bad mood you may just read it the wrong way !
I think that people are too defensive when they should read the replies without thinking everyone is out to get them and also that people do have different points of view to them
I know it's hard though.

SirenSays · 03/04/2024 11:55

Mn in a nutshell

Aibu to really love the colour blue
The comments - ew blue is disgusting, it's dark and cold, blue is only for boys, some people have no taste...

Aibu to really hate the colour blue
The comments - blue is the best every other colour is worse, there must be something wrong with you, boden only sells blue, Blue is peaceful, scoff I bet you like RED...

goingtotown · 03/04/2024 11:59

The one about pooing at work.

the80sweregreat · 03/04/2024 12:03

There was a thread where a lady was considering taking on a employee who she secretly liked a lot ( she was married ) and concerned that it might turn into something more if she did ( she has ended up taking him on )
I wrote ( before realizing she was hiring the person ) it 'probably wasn't the hassle ' and was called out for being anti men or work place rules and why shouldn't he get the job etc etc. fair enough , but it came across quite aggressive !!
I admit that hadn't entered my head , but I was coming from it from a different angle ( avoiding having an affair or a crush on someone that might screw up your business or marriage or whatever)
You can't win !!

Jaffa cakes are so nasty I'm amazed they qualify as a cake or a biscuit! 😂

CheerfulBunny · 03/04/2024 12:28

It's got to the stage now that I can read the title of a thread and accurately predict what the arsey responses will be. It's enormous fun, but also a bit depressing.

There are loads of times I see what I think is terrible advice - in particular about health issues (type 1 diabetes for one), but there's kind of a way of saying something, that you disagree with other posters etc., in a non confrontational way isn't there.

IIRC there has been extensive debate on the status of Jaffa Cakes in far more hallowed places than the pits of mumsnet.

I believe Jaffa Cakes have been proclaimed cakes.

To be fair I sometimes say this when 2 posters massively derail a thread to go round in circles Grin.

Yes people will split feathers on here to the point of stupidity let's face it

Love it
