What would you do?

I have a week entirely to myself later this year, money no problem.

I can’t ask anyone IRL, so asking you lot 😊

Can I add a smug twat comment on to my post please?

I'm in my PJs waiting for dinner to cook, drinking wine already (oh the depravation!). Pissing down outside so going to watch some shite telly for the rest of the night. I bloody love having some time on my own.

Rocknrollstar · 01/04/2024 18:21

I’d book an all inclusive and sit in the sun with 6 books and a cocktail or two

Being at home and batch cooking?!
Bloody hell no! Where’s your imagination?!

I’d spend a week abroad - New York, Tokyo, Rome Top of my list.

I have imagination thanks but I’m puppy sitting so can’t go anywhere. Anyway getting loads of stuff done will remove a lot of mental stress for me.

EarthlyNightshade · 01/04/2024 18:41

No commitments? No pets or any reason to stay at home?
I'd take a long weekend/midweek break to visit a friend, and spend the rest of the time at home (doing lovely stuff, not batch cooking).
More than 20 years since I have this kind of opportunity.

Gowlett · 01/04/2024 18:44

I’d go to one of those retreat places in the Alps & spend the time swimming, thinking, reading & sipping green juices. Alone.

BananaLlama123 · 01/04/2024 18:47

I'd find a nice spa with a decent restaurant attached for say 3 nights.

Book a personal shopper for a day of clothes shopping. I hate clothes shopping and live in black leggings and jersey dresses. Need to start dressing for the job I want though...

PurpleSparkles82 · 01/04/2024 18:52

Hire a cottage in the Lake District for the week. Walks, spa treatments, yummy food, chill time.

Mumofyellows · 01/04/2024 18:56

Heaven! Bake, read, walk my dogs, faff in the garden, faff at the stables, go to the gym, go for swims, walk on the beach in the evenings, watch Netflix, absolute heaven 😁

Needmorelego · 01/04/2024 19:03

Head to the south coast and stay in a hotel that if possible has a balcony to sit on in the evening.
Somewhere that has good transport links (I can't drive) and I would like to -
Explore antique/collectable and charity shops.
Coastal walks.
Use the quiet of the hotel room to read and do crafts.
Go swimming (either a lido if warm enough or a "fun" pool with wave machine or similar).
That's all I can think of......

herbygarden · 01/04/2024 19:06

September? I think I would book 5 nights in Greece, maybe Corfu. Swim/read/sunbathe/shop/sightsee etc. HEAVEN.

SunnySunnySunny · 01/04/2024 19:07

I do a lot of the suggestions in my normal week so I would go on holiday to a destination my DH isn’t keen to visit. Last year I went to Tunisia on my own and thoroughly enjoyed it.

RoseMartha · 01/04/2024 19:25

If money not a problem I would probably go on a solo holiday in the UK. Or a short city break.

Otherwise take a couple of days off work and have some days out, you dont have to spend loads to have a change of scene. Then do things like treat myself to a long bath afterwork and binge watch some tv shows. Meet friends. Have one day where I can have a long lay in.

This but switch green juices to wine.

I have a week next month (not on my own I have 2 adult DC at home but they are fairly invisible )

I will most likely take DD to work which means I will get up early instead of larding in bed .
I can get something nice for breakfast .
Get all the laundry sorted .
Set myself up in the garden if its nice
Do some gardening
Intensive self care blitz ( scrub/hair mask / wax )
Get the car serviced
Empty every cupboard and go through things , put anything to recycle in the car so I have to sort it out .

Plantpott · 01/04/2024 20:57

I'd go on holiday, one that DH wouldn't want to join me for. So for me this would be a swimming holiday or another hobby related hobby. Or i'd visit someone - i have family and friends in various places. If money was tight I might spend the week doing arts and crafts, walks, exercise, doing my various hobbies that I never seem to have time for because I work all the time!

BigMandyHarris · 01/04/2024 20:57

Some amazing suggestions thanks.

No pets and no work.
I can either go alone or ask a friend/friends to join me. Hence why I’m asking here as if I ask people I know, they will say they will come with me, and I want to decide what I do and who with

I wonder how many men would say catch up on cleaning and batch cooking!

Greengagesummer65 · 01/04/2024 21:49

Definitely a Greek island. Would make sure it had somewhere to swim, a little town area for pottering and lots of tavernas for drinking wine under the Bougainvillea. I’d also start writing my new novel :-)

Marssuri · 01/04/2024 21:50

I'd travel solo to a nice island (maybe the Canary Islands?)
If it was my only free week in the foreseeable future, I wouldn't want to bring anyone tbh, I'd like to do things at my own pace, not get annoyed, and enjoy some much needed me time.

Spectre8 · 01/04/2024 21:57

I would go on an amazong holiday like a safari or a road trip in the USA to a few national parks or drive the PCH. I'd want something wow to look at, whether thats beautiful landscapes or beautiful sunsets over the ocean.

Actually I think I'd book some gorgeous place which overlooks the ocean so I can just curl up in the evening with the sun setting and reading a book with some tea

Whatsgoingonwithmyhead · 01/04/2024 21:59
  • Book some coaching sessions for a hobby I want to improve on
  • Spa day with a good friend
  • then maybe a few days away cycling
CurlewKate · 01/04/2024 22:11

I might start by thinking "what would a man NOT do?" And neither would I. Which would mean no batch cooking, or clutter clearing...

I am currently in day three of my ten nights alone. House is now very tidy and I’ve had two lovely early nights and lie ins (literally unheard of). Today I’m making a couple of window blinds and sorting out my wardrobe. I have a skip arriving on Tuesday. I’m then going to go through the house sorting lots of stuff to go to the charity shop, pay bills, arrange tradespeople to come and do various jobs, reupholster a small chair and do a load of batch cooking. I’m determined to use this week to make life easier.

That would be my dream week (including a skip hire ). Plus lots of ready to eat salads and fresh fruits, no cooking apart from porridge in the morning.
I don’t think my house will be tidy on night 3 though it will require much more.
