Does anyone else enjoy Easter far more than Christmas?

I really don’t enjoy Christmas an adult, I find the stress of it all just too much and the frenzied build up starts earlier and earlier every year and by the time the day has arrived I feel like a frazzled mess.

But Easter, I adore, it is far more relaxed, I look forward to this weekend every year.

I wouldn't say so. Easter wasn't really a "thing" when I was growing up. You got an egg, that was about it.

The two bank holidays from work are nice, and I guess it's a nice time of year, the beginning of spring etc.

But I don't go in for all the hype I've seen / heard lately. We don't "decorate" for Easter, with Easter trees etc, and we don't do "Easter presents" which seem to now be a thing.

We just do a very low key egg hunt and enjoy the bank holidays.

tiredandabitfat · 30/03/2024 09:16

Posted too soon: so yes, I see what you are saying in that it is much more relaxed than Christmas (although not if the Easter tree decorators / Easter present givers get their way).

dancingpixie100 · 30/03/2024 09:16

Yes definitely! Lighter days, better weather, less stress, and everything feels fresh and new. I love Easter.

I don't even really acknowledge Easter beyond buying an egg for my parents. I tend to carry on as normal until the children ask on the Saturday night if they can do a treasure hunt like the one we did a few years ago. I then sit up late writing riddles.

Christmas I adore and put lots of time into it.

I think I see Christmas as a cultural event, with roots going back a very long way. As an atheist, Easter doesn't tend to register.

PuppiesOnTheWay · 30/03/2024 09:21

Up until the last couple of years I would have disagreed with you (and secretly judged you as a loon🤣) but last Christmas was awful (for me, the kids had a great time as usual!)
We had no money (thanks COL), I had to work inbetween Christmas and the new year which is unusual for me, I normally get a decent break to look forward to.
I had zero motivation throughout December and even putting the tree up was an effort, I normally love it! The kids are teens now so I can't even rely on the whole 'Christmas magic' to get me through ☹️
Easter is definitely less pressure, we still have no money but can just about stretch to a few eggs each and as the kids are older no easter egg hunts or sodding farm visits to bother with so we can just potter around and chill for a few days....bliss.
I am already dreading Christmas this year....

Nope prefer Christmas

The whole of the consumer society at least shuts down Christmas day. Easter just seems like a couple of days off with everyone going quite different things

Christmas day feels more unifying, households on the whole are more or less doing the same thing.

whatapickle12 · 30/03/2024 09:22

Yes, I love Easter. Much more happiness in the air, more laid back, I love the Easter trails and the lighter days. Less expectation but still a reason to have a lovely roast and catch up and rest. You can also gift but without having to go OTT. A £1 bunch of daffodils can make someone's day at Easter but at Christmas it would be an AIBU thread on here.

Sunglassesweather · 30/03/2024 09:22

Yes Yes Yes. I will die on this hill.

VladsPants · 30/03/2024 09:24

Easter barely registers with us.

Brought up in a catholic household, I dreaded Easter week as a child. Not having to think about it at all now is great.

MurderousCheekbones · 30/03/2024 09:25

It's just a normal Sunday but the kids have chocolate 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bluepangreen · 30/03/2024 09:26

Yes! Love Easter, don’t like Christmas.
The start of spring, lighter evenings, cute chicks and bunnies, loads of chocolate and totally relaxed with zero pressures to do anything. What’s not to love!!! I often say this to people and get blank looks at first but once I explain why people do tend to agree. I just hope Easter doesn’t get over commercialized like Christmas!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 30/03/2024 09:28

Generally speaking, I get the impression that Easter is a much bigger deal in England than Scotland.

Easter (for us) is just a couple of bank holidays and an Easter egg. Some years we don't get both bank holidays (Scotland).

So I'm Team Xmas

But Christmas is the definition of consumerism! At Easter there is no pressure to buy anything at all.

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 30/03/2024 09:29

Yes, I get all the benefits I do at Xmas - time off work, an excuse to laze around eating treats, family coming over - with the added benefit of nicer weather and very little to do in the run-up.

It’s the same in England, which is why I love it! Days off and chocolate!

Finlesswonder · 30/03/2024 09:30

Easter sucks. There's the same chocolate you can buy any time, except its shaped like an egg.

What's to love really?

Bibbetybobbity · 30/03/2024 09:31

Yep- 100% agree OP. Lovely and bright here, washing out and HIIT class done, great to have this time off but with lower expectations than Christmas. Have a great bank holiday weekend everyone 🐣

Finlesswonder · 30/03/2024 09:31

I'm team Halloween. Weather is creepy, nights are getting longer, you've still got Christmas to look forward to, etc.

dabdab · 30/03/2024 09:36

To quote Ronald Dahl - 'Easter is as lovely as Christmas is horrible'.

dabdab · 30/03/2024 09:38

Though I do like Christmas, just find it stressful and not a break!

MaryFuckingFerguson · 30/03/2024 09:41

Like night and day to me.

I like the long weekend, but apart from that, Easter is a bit of a non-event in our house.

LadyBird1973 · 30/03/2024 09:43

Easter lacks decoration for me - I love my tree and fairy lights and seeing town centres lit up at night. And I agree with a pp about the cultural unity of Christmas, although now we all have internet we probably aren't all watching Christmas Eastenders at the same time!
But Christmas is hideously expensive and pressured, whereas Easter had most of the nice aspects (time off, chocolate, nice meal) without the crazy build up and credit card bill!

TheCourtierTapsHisFan · 30/03/2024 09:43

Yes, in as much as I detest Christmas (the cost, the mental-load, the expectation for curating a perfect and memorable event, the reality that someone is always ill, the ‘taking it in turns’ so parents and grandparents don’t get upset, the fucking decorations at work that go up
in November, the booze, the heartburn, the awful awful chocolates).
In comparison with Easter which is four days off to do some gardening, read, go for a nice walk (sometimes in the sunshine), eating reasonable amounts of decent chocolate and having a nice relaxed no-expectations meal with family if they are around.

Claudereigns · 30/03/2024 09:43

Yes to Easter! Lighter evenings, blossom on trees, chocolate, hot cross buns, no pressure to have great big family gatherings, two bank holidays guaranteed either side of a weekend. And relax.

All of this. Much less stress for everyone.
