Tell me about your Easter Sunday.

I love Easter, for me it’s like a less stressful Christmas.

I have 3 DC, all but one teens but we still do an annual Easter egg hunt with friends, DH cooks a leg of lamb and makes his famous mini egg cheese cake.

The girls come down to a little bundle of eggs and pair of riding socks (evolves from me always getting some white frilly socks when I was little with my eggs)

Sometimes we have family visiting which is nice (I’m weirdly selfish with Christmas but gregarious with Easter)

We often do a cocktail to have mid afternoon and a tacky bonnet making competition or similar and it’s all round just a lovely day.

Id love to hear how everyone else spends their Easter Sunday.

We always do an easter egg hunt, I like to do dippy eggs with soldiers for breakfast and we usually have lamb for dinner (kleftiko usually) but this year we're going to MIL's on Sunday so we're having lamb tomorrow instead.

peachescariad · 29/03/2024 16:50

Adult kids have an egg each....no more egg hunts now, although I did love writing the clues and listening to them trying to work it out and running all round the house and outside.

Got PIL over for roast lamb.
Might go to the 10am church service if I'm organised enough by then.

ChicagoBears · 29/03/2024 16:54

DC will have some Easter treats waiting for them and then we’ll have croissants and a fresh fruit salad.

We’ve booked to go out for lunch and then weather permitting will go for a long walk.

I understand the less stressful Christmas comment. We have the ILS coming for Sunday lunch, we don’t see them at Christmas so this is a good compromise. I’ll cook lamb and chicken and the usual roast accompaniments. Children (all teens) will have eggs and I’ll prob make a cake.

I only said to my husband yesterday that I think Easter should be like a mini Christmas, so we can have lots of nice food!

Prinnny · 29/03/2024 16:55

DD will come downstairs to Easter decorations, then an Easter egg hunt, I’ve git some little craft bits for her to do then I’m cooking a Sunday roast (turkey here) then chill and eat chocolate and drink wine as we’ve had a busy day today and a full day again tomorrow.

idontlikealdi · 29/03/2024 16:57

We've got family coming to stay for the weekend. Will decorate hard boiled eggs and go egg rolling on Sunday. Atheist now but some of the traditions from growing up are still fun.

Easter egg hunt in the garden.

I'm cooking lunch which does not involve lamb as I hate it, cooking today so I don't have to be in the kitchen all Sunday.

Blessedbethefruitz · 29/03/2024 16:59

We're boring I'm afraid (and not religious). Ds 5 is very excited for his annual easter egg hunt (the small hollow ones that come in 20s or so) and has his bucket ready. He says he'll ignore the easy ones so his 2yo sister can find them. Then he'll spend the next few weeks hiding them and finding them again...

IggyAce · 29/03/2024 17:03

Last couple of years dh and I have climbed a local beauty spot for sunrise, leaving the teens to sleep in. Once home we have crepes for breakfast and even though they are teens they still insist on an egg hunt and they love it.
We usually don’t do much else the rest of the day.

Liv999 · 29/03/2024 17:05

As Catholics we usually go to mass in morning, then home to Easter egg hunt, have a roast (turkey or chicken as no one likes lamb), then usually just chill for evening with movies and a few drinks or go for a walk if weather is nice

awitchoftroubleinelectricblue · 29/03/2024 17:07

Hide eggs
Kids find the eggs
Eat the eggs in between of other normal meals
Go to bed
Eat the eggs over the next few days
Buy cheap eggs on sale and eat them

Sunrise church service on top of a hill at 6.30am (which is really 5.30am as the clocks change)!
Easter egg hunt later in the morning. Did you know the Easter Bunny actually LAYS the eggs?!?!! It’s because she used to be a bird.
Simnel cake with a cup of tea mid afternoon.
Slow cooked lamb in the evening and possibly attend the 7pm service at church.

WhatACluster · 29/03/2024 18:09

We’ve eaten the Easter egg hunt chocolate 🤣

Will have a nice chilled day, with friends and family, I will do a massive roast dinner (lamb, possibly beef and either chicken or turkey) with all the trimmings - literally can’t wait it has been weeks (Christmas?!?) since we had a roast dinner, followed by a mini egg cheesecake (I may make individual ones this year) and a lovely dog walk.

Not sure what else maybe a snooze and film if the children decide to grace us with their presence 🤣

mathanxiety · 29/03/2024 18:15

We never did anything when I was a child - it was primarily a religious holiday, with an Easter egg each, and roast lamb for dinner.

When my DCs were small, in the US, we did the Easter bunny thing - they had baskets with a little candy and some small little toys, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, markers, etc. When they got older I gave a bottle of nail polish or some other toiletries, or useful stuff like a new beach towel. We always went to Mass in the morning as the vigil Mass on Saturday was a bit late for them. Usually scrambled eggs, pancakes, and fruit for breakfast.

I have a set of china bunnies that I set out, and some hand painted eggs for hanging indoors. It's a custom here to decorate outdoors with eggs hung on trees and bushes - I've never gone that far.

For the last few years I've gone to the Vigil Mass with whatever adult DC has been able to join me for the holiday. I still buy candy but no longer bother with small gifts. We're having a roast this year, with probably a clafoutis for breakfast. Dessert will be a lemon meringue pie.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 29/03/2024 18:16

Normal day here. I'll be at work.

JCWiatt · 29/03/2024 18:39

I never understand comments saying what a load of fuss, why bother etc. It's fine if you can't be bothered, but don't insinuate other people are daft for enjoying it. It's nothing to do with being competitive or forcing jollity. For many families (ours included) it's about gathering together, having an excuse for fun and games, decorating with eggs and vases of spring flowers and having a nice time. Our family love the traditions each season bring and my DC take part in making decs and get very excited for the egg hunt and helping make a big family lunch etc. We play games and eat a lot of chocolate and hot cross buns! It's a bit of fun; something different from everyday. Yes, we could do those things anytime, but being an official holiday makes it a bit special. We have many lovely memories from over the years.

Rapunzel91 · 29/03/2024 22:41

We’re spreading out plans over the Easter weekend as the kids are so excited (mainly for the eggs). We did lots of deep cleaning, big walk and leg of lamb dinner today. Tomorrow we’re going to do the Easter egg hunt with clues for the kids and my DD has a friends party later one. My DH will do some more diy/stuff that needs doing around the house with the other kids. Sunday we will do some gardening, a big walk, kids Easter activites and eat all the chocolate.

I love Easter. It’s so calm and i always feel in a better mood with the weather getting milder and the occasional sun. Also love any excuse for decorations and themed activities for the kids

toddlermummum · 29/03/2024 22:41

We’re going to a farm where you can hold piglets, feed lambs and they’re also doing an Easter Egg Hunt so that should be good 😊 Then we will either pick up food from somewhere on the way home or order a takeaway for tea 😋

I’ve got ds 2 Easter eggs, a cream egg sized Lindt egg, some Easter jelly babies, some Easter shaped marshmallows, a rock painting kit, Easter crafts and stickers, a bat and ball attached with a string thing, some bunny ears and some Thomas The Tank Engine pyjamas 🥰

I’ve got dp 2 Easter eggs, a cream egg sized Lindt egg and loads of little eggs to make him an Easter Egg Hunt as ds is too young to understand but I want to do one 🤷‍♀️😂

PointeShoesandTutus · 29/03/2024 22:49

Suprised at how few mentions of church and all the 'don't fuss' brigade!

We do an early morning Easter egg hunt at ours, coffee and hot cross buns, then scoot/walk to church for mass. Then on to grandparents for a roast and more egg hunting. If I manage to get the kids calm and settled I'll then join my parents at Evensong at church at 6pm, before home and wine!

Love Easter, and all the joy it brings.

PigletJohn · 30/03/2024 21:44

I will be working through the night as a volunteer for English Heritage.

We have to change the Big Clock to Summer Time.

Tell me about your Easter Sunday.
Butteredtoast55 · 30/03/2024 21:57

Early church service here then I'll be getting Sunday lunch ready - roast dinner and DH gets lamb (which he loves and I rarely cook) as we've got family coming. Gardening in the afternoon then there's a music and reflection service I'm going to at 6:00. Chocolate eggs all round and hopefully a good bit of TV to round the day off.
When my parents were alive we all went to theirs and my Dad wrote Easter Egg hunt puzzle clues for each grandchild. I do miss that.

EasterBunnny · 30/03/2024 22:07

I will cook a lamb roast for my three adult DC and DH. Then visit my DM in her nursing home before going to the cinema in the evening.
I went on a big day out today with my family which was so lovely. I planned a nice Easter this year and so far it’s going very well.

OneMoreTime23 · 30/03/2024 22:10

I have an OU assignment due on Tuesday so I’ve packed DH and DD off to his family and my weekend is being spent writing a few thousand words. Several all nighters on the horizon.

MumMumMumMumMumMumMum · 30/03/2024 22:13

Going to eat some chocolate and pressure wash my patio at some point 🤣

rickyrickygrimes · 30/03/2024 22:18

We dont really do anything. We aren’t religious and don’t live near our families. But for those who are / do I hope you have a lovely, lovely time. As I get older I increasingly appreciate the simple joys of routine, ritual, family, food and drink. The years turn on them and they bring us together.

im going to make hot cross buns tomorrow (first time!). And phone my parents and tell them Happy Easter.

OatFlatWhiteForMe · 30/03/2024 22:21

Easter morning egg hunt when the DC’s (teen and young adult) get up then brunch at my parents with all the family. We have another egg hunt there as well as an egg painting comp.

Home to relax and eat chocolate then we have a family meal booked at a local restaurant for 7pm.
