Ginger tea bags - any recommendations?

PositivelyGlowing · 29/03/2024 12:43

As an IBS sufferer I mostly use Ginger tea bags (just plain ginger, nothing else added) - I used to buy the Palanquin Ginger Herbal Tea Bags (no caffeine in them of course) but can't find them any more.

Can anyone suggest a good alternative please? Must be caffeine free.

Clipper ginger and turmeric is lovely

Buy frozen chopped ginger. Store in freezer. Buy empty, unbleached teabags like these -https://amzn.eu/d/ggJci54

Put a half teaspoon of ginger in teabag as needed, add boiling water and enjoy.

Edited to add link to ginger - https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/289766457

You don't need the bags but I prefer not to have bits in my tea. I would use a tea strainer if I didn't have the bags or one of those perforated things for tea leaves.

SunshinDay · 29/03/2024 16:51

If you cut it into chunks they are heavy and sit at the bottom, there are no bits in tea.

MissPeachyKeen · 29/03/2024 16:52

I also use fresh ginger, let it steep the remove at desired strength

DSD9472 · 29/03/2024 16:53

I keep ginger in the freezer and just cut off chunks and put in hot water. No need to buy tea bags! 😕

Frozen or freshly grated ginger in one of these tea infusers.

I prefer it chopped up as I think you get more flavour out of it that way. I've ended up with a mouthful of ginger a few times as a result.

Why the sad face?

Pukka 3 Ginger, usually on offer somewhere

SunshinDay · 29/03/2024 17:00

You must be really swilling the water?

I drink fresh ginger with turmeric and Peper every day

DSD9472 · 29/03/2024 17:07

@OchonAgusOchonOh Its not a sad face, its a confused one and says so on the emoji descriptions!

Ok. It looks sad to me but I'm not terribly au fait with emojis😀(that's apparently grinning rather than smiling, who knew?).

I'm not sure how it's confusing though. Someone prefers small pieces of ginger, doesn't like bits, it makes sense to use a bag or a tea infuser.

I use empty tea bags for a variety of purposes. They are handy to make a bouquet garni. I use loose tea and am quite fussy about it so I often bring some with me and a few teabags if I'm away for a weekend. They're also great for bitty herbs like chamomile for tea.

I have a fresh ginger root as a staple.
just cut off a chunk, 1cm or so, into a cup and pour over boiling water over.

SunshinDay · 29/03/2024 17:29

But you don't need dp chop it small, you could even just chop one big chunk

No you don't but I buy the frozen bags of chopped ginger which is already chopped small. If I buy whole ginger I chop it before freezing as it is the handiest way to store it for cooking. My main use for ginger is cooking.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/03/2024 17:49

Pukka triple ginger comes with a nice burny heat, if you like that (I do).

I love Pukka teas. They're great.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/03/2024 17:50

That is definitely a sad face.

Talipesmum · 29/03/2024 18:25

Agree with all the Pukka tea three gingers recommendation. Great flavour, good strength

The Palanquin Tea Bags look to be readily available online, e.g. Amazon:

Thanks, but that's only one box and it's overpriced - they used to be about 3.50 per box.

Dragonfly is a really good brand. They do True Clarity Ginger, Turmeric and Thyme blend. Less than £3 for 25 bags.
