Found a pregnancy test wrapper in workplace toilet and I am trying to figure out whose it is

MrsCurtainTwitcher · 29/03/2024 05:46

I am in a workplace where more than two thirds of the staff could be classified as women of childbearing age. I went to the toilet yesterday and saw the wrapper from an early response pregnancy test. It was in plain view right next to the sink. The test stick itself was not there. I was surprised that whoever used it didn't just put it in the bin. I am wondering if they were so shocked (or overjoyed) by the result that they just forgot all about the packaging. When I was pregnant myself, I always did the tests at home. I couldn't imagine doing one at work, though I am sure plenty of women do. I've not asked anyone at work about or mentioned it and don't plan to. Yet I haven't been able to stop myself looking out for subtle hints. I am keeping an eye out to see if anyone is looking a bit peaky, rushing off to the toilet to be sick, rubbing their belly or doing anything that could be construed as a sign of pregnancy. I am secretly hoping that whoever has used the test was hoping for a BFP and got one.

Just because someone does a test it doesn't mean they are 'hoping' to be pregnant, 'dreading' being pregnant. Just means they want to know if they need the morning after pill or if they need to take folic acid.

Just keep your nose out - you sound like the last person that they would tell anyway.

I don’t think many women are completely neutral about whether or not they are pregnant!

Also if you’ve got a positive test you’re a bit late for the morning after pill…

Personally I don’t think there’s anything wrong with OP feeling nosey.. I’d be curious too. She’s just writing it on here as an outlet so she can behave appropriately at work.

Supersoakers · 29/03/2024 09:33

I think everyone would have a private wonder. The OP isn’t actually going around interrogating people.

VerityUnreasonble · 29/03/2024 09:33

I'd have thought it's just a bit of a game OP is playing with herself to amuse herself through the work day.

I doubt she's going to stand up at the end of the day, twiddle her Poirot moustache, take a drag on her cigar, and say "just one more thing" Columbo style before accusing some poor colleague of being the rogue wrapper leaver.

I actually doubt she really cares if any of her colleagues are pregnant/ not pregnant/ want to be / don't want to be. OP isn't harming anyone.

You’ve clearly never had to work with one of these people, for which you should count yourself lucky. They are real, they do exist, and they are a complete nightmare for anyone who wants even a modicum of privacy.

Idly wondering to yourself, very human.

Watching colleagues for signs of pregnancy and posting about it on MN, way OTT.

This current thread is full of people who pride themselves on detecting pregnancy via a Special Sixth Sense, and generally appear to feel their finest hour is telling the pregnant woman in question.

I don’t know how this can even happen! I’m 6 weeks and collected a Chinese takeaway from my local. I always chat with the lady, she’s really lovely....

You sound a bit like the colleague that turned up uninvited at our wedding venue and then hung around all day.

As it happens I'm now pregnant and 'oh she just can't WAIT to see the baby'. She works part-time so I'll be planning any visit to the office to ensure it's when she's not there. Nosey cow.

Get your head down and do what your employer pays you for

I agree. It's weird to be proud of being this nosey. Thought of the holiday thread as well.

This. ^ @MrsCurtainTwitcher You need to get out more/get some hobbies.

AgnesX · 29/03/2024 11:03

Have you not got enough work to do? I couldn't care less unless it was my job share (if I had one).

Startingagainandagain · 29/03/2024 11:05

What an odd post.

None of your business whatsoever.

You are allowed to be privately curious about it but thinking of asking women you work with if they left this in the loos or staring gossip around your office would be completely inappropriate.

Trulyme · 29/03/2024 12:52

Instead of playing a silly game and finding this amusing, I would be concerned for whoever it was who felt they needed to take the test at work rather than in the comfort of their own home.

Zyq · 29/03/2024 13:04

How many women actually do rub their bellies when pregnant? I can honestly say that I never did.

I'm 31 weeks and I was idly rubbing my bump as I read your comment. This is new in the last month since its really popped and the baby is kicking regularly though, I wasn't rubbing my flat stomach at the point of testing.

thedendrochronologist · 29/03/2024 13:16

Yes - weird enough to have these thoughts but even stranger to post them on here!

Idle curiosity this is not!

PurpleChrayn · 29/03/2024 13:16

Wind your neck in! Jesus. Are you 13?

Mistymist · 29/03/2024 20:39

Mind your business!

MenorcaMarguerite · 30/03/2024 12:22

Not appropriate or kind from you. What a shame for your colleague.

AiryFairy101 · 30/03/2024 12:26

Why do you even care? Beyond me…🙈

PrudeyTwoShoes · 30/03/2024 12:39

100% agree that this is none of your business. Stop trying to find out who it is and concentrate on the work you're paid to do, go home and then focus on normal life. Don't waste your time being a detective on something that doesn't concern you in the slightest or make any difference to your life whatsoever.

WhatWouldYouDo25 · 30/03/2024 12:40

YABVU I had to take a few pregnancy tests at work to confirm my miscarriages had completely gone. Mind your own business

Doublechocolatemuffin · 30/03/2024 15:43

Why make a post about this? I don't get it. It's not like anyone on Mumsnet knows who it belongs to. You can't have much going on in your life OP if this is the biggest thing on your mind right now.

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 30/03/2024 15:46

I did a pregnancy test at work and left the packet in the bin too. All my colleagues were speculating and gossiping and really, why wouldn’t they be?
I’ve no idea why you’re getting such a hard time here op. If your pregnant or not colleague was that bothered about privacy they’d have hidden the packet rather than leave it for anyone to see.
