Found a pregnancy test wrapper in workplace toilet and I am trying to figure out whose it is

I am in a workplace where more than two thirds of the staff could be classified as women of childbearing age. I went to the toilet yesterday and saw the wrapper from an early response pregnancy test. It was in plain view right next to the sink. The test stick itself was not there. I was surprised that whoever used it didn't just put it in the bin. I am wondering if they were so shocked (or overjoyed) by the result that they just forgot all about the packaging. When I was pregnant myself, I always did the tests at home. I couldn't imagine doing one at work, though I am sure plenty of women do. I've not asked anyone at work about or mentioned it and don't plan to. Yet I haven't been able to stop myself looking out for subtle hints. I am keeping an eye out to see if anyone is looking a bit peaky, rushing off to the toilet to be sick, rubbing their belly or doing anything that could be construed as a sign of pregnancy. I am secretly hoping that whoever has used the test was hoping for a BFP and got one.

Why would somebody be rubbing their belly if they're not far enough along to be showing yet? Surely it's the kind of thing you do in response to the baby kicking, not just spontaneously because a stick told upi there's a baby in there?

(Missing the point of the thread entirely, I know!)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 29/03/2024 08:05

This is a perfect example of why there should be security cameras in toilets - it would put an end to all this sort of speculation and gossiping.

Does your HR department offer DNA testing or have access to some sort of finger print analysis?

PansyOatZebra · 29/03/2024 08:12

wtf???

mind your business! It’s nothing to do with you

so pathetic

also it may not have been positive and the person may be devastated or vice versa they may not be ready for a baby

It's not weird to wonder. We'd all do that.
It's weird that someone in the workplace did a pregnancy test and then left the result where the OP came across it.
Unless the OP was ferreting through the bins.
And obviously, being that nosey you're sitting at work speculating and starting MN threads is beyond weird.

Thehooligans · 29/03/2024 08:24

How exciting- I would be playing who's the mommy too.

TheMixedGirl · 29/03/2024 08:45

This is hilarious. A bit of fun at work. It's harmless- she's not hurting anyone and the Pregger tester doesn't know!

Willmafrockfit · 29/03/2024 08:47

it might be a negative result

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 29/03/2024 08:49

Colleagues like you are why I keep info about personal issues strictly on a need to know basis at work. Too many people are too eager to gossip about things that are none of their damned business.

ByUmberViewer · 29/03/2024 08:52

If this is even true then mind your own bloody business. You're there to work

MrsCrumPinnett · 29/03/2024 08:57

Leave the poor woman alone. She might be testing at work because she’s in an abusive relationship and can’t safely test at home, or might have started bleeding and is worrying she’s miscarrying so tested right away, or have had an IVF transfer and this is the time she’s supposed to test, or…one of any number of other scenarios where it’s not as simple as ‘yay, I’m pregnant’.

You are being weird and intrusive. In your shoes, I’d have quietly put that wrapper in the bin and put something else on top to stop people like you doing exactly what you’re doing now.

Beekeepingmum · 29/03/2024 08:58

Maybe she left the wrapper lying around because she is messy slob, do any of your female co-workers of child bearing age have messy desks that could be a sign, alternatively you could pretend it is your birthday bring in some prosecco and monitor who doesn't take part in the toast.

Alternatively of course you could mind your own business like a normal person.

feelingalittlehorse · 29/03/2024 08:58

A pregnancy test?!???!
In a toilet?!??
Done by a woman of child bearing age?!???

Blimey OP! I’d go and have a little sit down if I were you- the world has clearly gone mad 😱😱😱🙄🙄

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 29/03/2024 08:58

You're trying to justify your noseyness with well wishes.
This is none of your business.

ColleenDonaghy · 29/03/2024 08:59

It might be someone who doesn't want to be pregnant. It might be someone who wants to be pregnant but the test was negative.

You've no idea, jumping straight to "yay someone's intentionally pregnant and happy about it" is a little naive.

Just put the wrapper in the bin and hope that whoever it was got the answer they wanted.

Keep your nose out

OpalOP · 29/03/2024 09:17

Does anyone actually believe this story? Sounds like something out of a bad sitcom.

In a way I agree with you but I have been on here long enough that it also wouldn't surprise me its true either

ticktickticktickBOOM · 29/03/2024 09:19

MYOB nosey cow

CremeEggThief · 29/03/2024 09:21

Sorry but have to agree this is extremely weird and nosey of you, OP!

mynameiscalypso · 29/03/2024 09:21

I took lots of tests at work. We took 3 years to conceive and most months I was so desperate for it to be positive that I'd have to go out in the working day to get a test just in case we'd conceived by some miracle.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 29/03/2024 09:22

Just because someone does a test it doesn't mean they are 'hoping' to be pregnant, 'dreading' being pregnant. Just means they want to know if they need the morning after pill or if they need to take folic acid.

Just keep your nose out - you sound like the last person that they would tell anyway.

TheSolstices · 29/03/2024 09:23

This seems to be a minor new trend on Mn. ‘I am insanely nosy, but I pride myself on my detective skills and clearly think you will find it relatable’ — see recent threads on ‘researching’ holiday acquaintances to see how much their house and business sold for, neighbours’ grocery shopping etc..

I agree. It's weird to be proud of being this nosey. Thought of the holiday thread as well.

Yes! It's a bit weird.

Sarvanga38 · 29/03/2024 09:29

God alive, I have the least interest in babies in the world, but even I would be idly wondering who it might be if someone had left a pregnancy test wrapper under my nose.

The OP isn't conducting an investigation, she's just wondering and hoping whether they got the news (which might be life-changing) they were hoping for.🙄
