Watching The Breakfast Club for the first time in about 30 years. Had forgotten how utterly gorgeous Judd Nelson was in this.

Whatever happened to him?

My favourite was always Andrew McCarthy. Pretty in Pink is one of my all time favourite films.

With you on that one

It's a seminal film that is now used to in psychology training to talk about stereotypes and preconceptions.
Plus you have Judd Nelson eye candy and Ally Sheedy goth vibes which very much helped me get through the '80s!

My fave was Pretty in Pink, loved Duckie.

Never liked that Molly Ringwald’s character gave Ally Sheedy’s character a makeover at the end. Much preferred the goth girl look, and if it’s a film about acceptance then no makeover required.

How bizarre. I would say he was actually on the very plain side. I don’t like ‘ranking’ humans on attractiveness generally but seeing as it’s the subject of the thread he’d be a 3 for me.
Always good to be reminded there a lid for every pot.

Yes, I was a teen in those days and while I fancied lots of the 'brat pack' actors, it never even occurred to me to think of Judd Nelson as 'hot'.

He was also ridiculously old for his role in 'The Breakfast Club'. I know it's the norm to cast older actors in 'teen' TV or films, but while many of them can pass as teenagers, he just looked ancient.

All John Hughes films were very sexist, and this was no exception.

Women and girls only exist to please men. So if Alison had to put on some lipstick to please a boy, so be it.

I loved 'The Breakfast Club' as a teenager at the time. But it would not get made today.

I was thinking this as I was watching last night! Equally Emilio Estevez. Having an easy afternoon watching Pretty in Pink today and Andrew McCarthy doesn't do it for me but I always feel sorry for poor Duckie!

In the original ending Duckie ended up with Molly Ringwald, but the test audience hated that and they had to do a quick reshoot.

James Spader was also v good looking back in the day. Especially in White Palace.

Looks v different now - aged like we all do, but better to age naturally than go full Hollywood cosmetic surgery, trying to look forever young.

Judd Nelson sort of smouldered in Breakfast Club and I loved him as the bad boy. However, nothing compares to Andrew McCarthy in Mannequin.

Everyoneesleistheproblem · 30/08/2024 13:39

Yes to James Spader. He also had a bit of quiet darkness about him. Yum.
