Did anyone sense you were pregnant before you told them?

I don’t know how this can even happen!

I’m 6 weeks and collected a Chinese takeaway from my local. I always chat with the lady, she’s really lovely. As I was picking up the food she stopped me and said, ‘are you pregnant?’

I’d not mentioned any symptoms or anything to her - totally spooked! She said she could just ‘tell’ and sensed it the last couple of times I’ve been.

Has this happened to anyone else? I wonder how people know or whether it was just an incredibly lucky guess!

@NoCloudsAllowed Is this a double-entendre?!! 😆
How do you take from this that he knew you were pregnant?

menopausalmare · 28/03/2024 19:37

When women start keeping their own teabags in their bag, that seals it for me.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 28/03/2024 19:37

My mum told me I was pregnant. I said I couldn’t be. I tested. She was right. Twice.

@StillNoFuckingEyeDeer As in a virgin birth?!!

HerderofDragons · 28/03/2024 19:42

Yes, lovely nursery worker when I was c.6 -8 weeks -she also (correctly) said it was a girl. She said it was body language.

I also sensed it with a friend. Didn't ever mention it to her but I think it was the way she got incredibly incensed by something fairly trivial! Again she would have been maybe 6-8 weeks. I just knew!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 28/03/2024 19:45

My three year old DD. And then again with her twin siblings - she gave me a cuddle and then let me know that there were two babies in my belly.

Kalevala · 28/03/2024 19:52

My boss, I was maybe 10 weeks and she asked to speak to me. I wasn't showing at all and my bump didn't 'pop' until 24 weeks. I was shocked that she could tell. She only asked if she was able to tell my immediate supervisors as it was a physical job.

SpaghettiWithaYeti · 28/03/2024 19:52

My son, he was two and a bit, I hadn't even realised my period was late. He kissed my tummy and said "someone in there".... !

I’ve sensed a lot of pregnancies I can’t put my finger on what it is though; just get a
feeling but I’m guessing they must look different.
I don’t think I could pick someone out of a lineup and say “this is the pregnant woman” I think I’d have to know them at least a little beforehand

bakewellbride · 28/03/2024 19:59

My friend had a dream in which I was pregnant and told me about it the day after she had it, when I was very early pregnant. Really freaked me out.

BrutusMcDogface · 28/03/2024 20:05

My parents are divorced. My brother is my stepdad’s son. My dad knew my mum was pregnant when she was 5 weeks! He apparently looked at her and said, “you’re pregnant, aren’t you?”

I bumped into a friend in a supermarket who I don’t see very often and knew straight away she was, before she officially told me. However, she looked wildly excited, I’d known she was trying, and she had developed a few spots!

BrutusMcDogface · 28/03/2024 20:06

I have also dreamt that my best friend was pregnant, the day before she told me she was!

Mrssheepskin · 28/03/2024 20:10

Apparently about 5 people I know ‘knew’ I was pregnant after we announced it but I’m sure people just say that!

gano · 28/03/2024 20:11

My uncle. We're not even close and don't see each other for years at a time, plus he's mostly blind. A family member was in hospital, so I saw him there, and he said, "Anything you want to tell us?" I was puzzled. He said "you're pregnant, aren't you?" I laughed and said, "I don't think so, although we are trying". He told me to take a test when I get chance because he was certain I was. I forgot about it, but a week later my period was late, so I took a test and I was about 5 weeks pregnant.

A fisherman's wife we knew who was Romany. She predicted mine before I knew.

Oddly my brother in law

ShazzaF · 28/03/2024 20:25

Yes!

My mum's best friend told her she was sure I was pregnant when I was literally just a couple of weeks pregnant - what's weirder is that she did the exact same thing the second time I got pregnant too! She couldn't explain why, she said she just had a really strong feeling as soon as she looked at me.

It's not as if she's just one of those people that's always going "ooo I wonder if XYZ is XYZ" - she's only ever said it when I've actually been pregnant.

Spooky!

Mmhmmn · 28/03/2024 20:26

You might have been touching your belly without even realising it.

xsagestarsx · 28/03/2024 20:28

I have sensed when friends are pregnant before they've told me several times. I can't even explain to you how I feel that I know, it's just a vibe. It's so strange but interesting!

Here4thechocs · 28/03/2024 20:28

My friend was back home & told me she saw me in a dream, holding a very “beautiful baby boy “. I was only about 6 weeks pregnant so of course, hadn’t told anyone. Went for the scan weeks after & yep, we had a boy. Now 13.

gamerchick · 28/03/2024 20:29

Just jumpy dogs with me. They stopped jumping up.

Women get a bit of a pregnant chin according to some. Face changes or something.

Gcsunnyside23 · 28/03/2024 20:36

I've done this quite a few times, I don't know what it is but I just 'know'. One person I worked with, I actually knew before she did lol. It just seemed instinctive to me by looking at her face when we talked. I asked my friend who was v.close to her if coworker was pregnant but she said no then it turns out she found out around 18 weeks and they were all very amused that I had asked friend roughly 10 weeks before

The woman in the fertility clinic who took my blood test said she thought I was (she only shared this with me after she rang me later that day to confirm that I was!). She said she could just tell who was and who wasn't after doing the job for so long...don't know how!

I've had quite a few losses but I also have hypertension. When I was pregnant my BP would drop. If I thought I was miscarrying a pregnancy test will show I'm still pregnant but my BP would rise instantly so I'd always use that to check.

Tontostitis · 28/03/2024 21:07

I can tell pretty early, even with strangers but almost always with people I know. I think maybe it's a combination of years of teaching fitness classes and knowing women's bodies both physically and their body language. I do wonder if I can somehow smell it, pregnant women have a slightly higher body temp and obviously more hormones. I don't ever ask though I always wait to be told.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 28/03/2024 21:16

I have 3 times, once when I was at school and I just knew one of my teachers was pregnant, once with a colleague and once with my sister who just walked out of the bathroom and I just knew. She did a pregnancy test that evening (I hadn’t said anything to her) and told me the next day!

BelfastSmile · 28/03/2024 21:17

Yes, I was meeting a client (so not someone I knew particularly well), who was a retired midwife. I was about 8 weeks pregnant at the time. She looked at me and said "You're pregnant, aren't you?". No idea how she knew; she couldn't really explain it herself!
