Staying in a hotel after a flight or come home?

Next month we are going on holiday
The flight is 6 hours
We arrive back at 11.20pm
Every time we have done this route there's always a hour delay (no idea why )
So normally it's after midnight when we land.
The hotel is opposite airport and it's £66
Or taxi home (well Uber around £40 ) but could be more if they increase the fare and it's a Friday night .
The drive home would be around 30 mins approx
What would you do ?
Book into hotel or get taxi home ?
I can't decide

It depends on circumstances. Couple? Kids? Mates? Can you afford the luxury of staying? Are you in work next day?

It’s hard to say without knowing this.

i was a teacher and on school trips have paid to stay closer to work rather than commuting in next day

with young kids I’ve paid to make bedtimes more manageable for them

i wouldn’t as a single person who doesn’t need to get to sleep urgent

If it feels like a treat and you want to do it before and/ or after, and cost is no issue, then do it!

I take probably over 100 domestic and international flights in any given year and work travel has absolutely ruined any joy that can be derived from airports or airport hotels for me. I arrive as close to the flight departure time as I can and cannot get home fast enough on the way back! I’m about 20mins to the airport with no traffic.

If you’re that close to the airport, surely a taxi each way makes much more sense. And you get to sleep in your own bed!!

Absolutely I’d go home, and my nearest airport is 1.5 hours away.
you seem to want to stay at the hotel tho, so just do it :-)

IndysMamaRex · 03/04/2024 21:59

It’s not too far so I’d just go home. That way in the morning you can rest without another journey to make. If your home was gonna be an hour + drive from the airport of probs say hotel

We landed at just gone midnight a couple of weeks ago and had a 2 hour drive home. We drove straight home.

@Rosesanddaisies1 it's a small airport so the hotel is directly opposite ,2 mins walk
It's really convenient for the way there

I'd go for the hotel. We have often stayed at an airport Premier Inn with a flight arriving back late, much more relaxing and extends the holiday a bit.

We would 100% drive home & my DH would get a load of washing in the machine ready to hang out in the morning too 😆👏

We regularly drive 6/7 hours (Glasgow to London) for a flight to a very small Greek airport where FIL lives. Flights always at 8am and we drive down through the night. Regularly do the 3 and a bit hour drive to Manchester, straight to the airport if it's a good enough saving on flight prices. Blows my mind that you'd stay over on the way there for the sake of a 30 minute journey.. especially when it's costing £100!!

SleepingStandingUp · 04/04/2024 09:12

Not for a thirty minute drive. Get home or your own bed, stay in bed as long as you like.

go home! 30 mins is nothing - 3 hours we’ve done at 3am with 2 kids.

I'd go home.

No faffing sleeping in another place.
No more unpacking/packing.
No more check out times.

Straight home with a garage stop (for bread, milk, bacon) on the way.
