How would you feel if you knew your cat was visiting and spending time at other peoples houses? Would you mind?

It wouldn't bother me at all (and hasn't, in the past, when I have seen them sitting in other people's windows).

Shiveringinthecountry · 26/03/2024 22:34

I'd worry a bit that he might leave me, and would want to offer extra games and cuddles and Lickylix...

Sameratdifferenthat · 26/03/2024 22:35

I would mind. I'd have to have a talk with her about loyalty. Luckily she is very anti-social & barely tolerates our company so the chances of her wanting to put up with anyone new are zero.

One of my male cats comes home smelling of treachery and he gets investigated! He's been fat shamed by the vet so considering a special no feed collar!!

thelengthspeoplegoto · 26/03/2024 23:04

I'd be jealous.

Mine too-she hates everyone and barely tolerates us so she is never going to go elsewhere 💀

MissingMoominMamma · 26/03/2024 23:13

My neighbour used to find my cat asleep on his bed. The cat would jump from the fence to the roof, then go in through his velux. Made himself right at home! Luckily, the neighbour would give him a stroke, then send him home.

Ebme · 26/03/2024 23:15

Hate it. My cat loves to hide under beds and I worry someone will shut their bedroom door not having a clue my cat is hiding in there and go away for a week.

But what to do 🤷‍♀️ cats are free spirits

Chubrubdubdub · 26/03/2024 23:15

I don't mind at all as long as he is not fed, because extra food (or let's face it, extra treats!) is bad for his health.

I am very busy with young children and feel rather guilty as is hard to make time to show the cat affection. So I actually like the idea of other people doting on him, and I'm sure it's nice for them too.

FunnyCradock · 26/03/2024 23:16

My MIL has gradually ‘stolen’ a cat from a neighbour by feeding it and allowing/encouraging it into her home. She now adds it to any cards she sends (using the name she calls it, not its actual name)
She knows where it lives, she went knocking on doors to ask. She. Is. Nuts.

MonsteraMama · 26/03/2024 23:16

I'm fairly certain one of my cats has about seven different "owners". He's such a hussy.

justasking111 · 26/03/2024 23:22

Our cat had three owners in the area. He gave such comfort to one couple when we moved we offered him to them. We were out at work all day he only had kibble. There he had fresh steamed fish and saucers of cream. He also was spoilt By someone else.

We now have a cat and two dogs. When the grandchildren visit the cat shoots next door for peace. As does another cat 😂

This is hilarious 😂

I have had Whatsapp photos of mine from several neighbours... he sneaks in and sleeps on their beds!!! He has no shame.

After his sister decided she hated him he moved 4 doors down and now mostly resides with a lovely retired lady ...ungrateful beastie. But he is loved wherever he goes so we accept he has free will!

Ours too.....but I'd be heartbroken and furious if i found she was actually really friendly to anyone else! 🤣

CharlotteBog · 27/03/2024 00:14

Rupert from next door often tries to sneak in my house.
Don't mind, I'd never feed him. I just worry that (as a non cat owner) he'll get in without me noticing and get shut somewhere or stuck in if we're away for the weekend.
I get fewer garden birds when there are cats about which saddens me. Not much I can do though.

SammyScrounge · 27/03/2024 02:05

So long as he isn!"t being overfed, I don't mind..My cat's second home was with a very sweet and kind old lady. They used to sit and watch Neighbours together and she would feed him tiny scraps of ham which he loved.

Then mysteriously he seemed to know what time I.came.home because he would suddenly rise from her lap and cry at the door.to.be let out and I would find him sitting on the wall outside my house, crying.pathetically as.if he had been left alone all day

My parents cat used to cheat on them with a neighbour. She adored him. He also got rather portly, although they asked her not to feed him. They told the cat, that his collar said 'very handsome cat.' Not don't feed me! Since he hasn't lost weight since they moved away, she may not have been feeding him at all. 😂

Toddlerteaplease · 27/03/2024 02:17

Our teenage hood car used to be friends with all the neighbourhood cats. We'd regularly find him curled up on beds with them. He had a best friend called Oscar and they'd sleep curled up together.

sashh · 27/03/2024 04:28

Mine visits the neighbours.

She is small and convinces people she is a stray kitten.

One neighbour's grandson loved feeding her milk, so I explained it isn't good for them and bought him some cat milk to feed her.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/03/2024 04:38

If it was of those cats that one hears about that comes back with money, I would actively encourage it.

cariadlet · 27/03/2024 05:27

I've had to stop leaving my bedroom windows open since the neighbours got cats.

They get onto the conservatory roof, jump into the bedroom, wander around upstairs and then whinge that they can't get out but don't want to be picked up to be put back onto the conservatory roof.

I'm not a cat person.

Inthebathagain · 27/03/2024 06:19

I think I live near your MIL @FunnyCradock

She's finally stopped i think. The solicitor threat was enough.

Now I look back on it, I still find it hilarious the neighbour thought my boy was a girl, gave him a girls name and put a bright pink collar on him!

Neighbour trying to steal my cat | Mumsnet

I'm so cross. Long story short, my cat keeps going into a neighbours house. She keeps letting him in her front door...no cat flap. She's feeding him...
