Bubble sitter app owners are cheeky fuckers exploiting the sitters

Yessiryessirthreebagsfull · 26/03/2024 12:30

I'm fuming.

Been using them for years and always made a point to stay on the app and pay the fees as I appreciate how easy they made it for me to find sits.

But today they anounced that sitters will have to pay a 25% fees (or 20% for super sitters) for every 1st sit?

Cheeky greey fuckers!

Knowing that most sits through the app are a one time thing. And Bubble managed to get most of the bbsitting jobs going through them. And I pay taxes on what I earn on Bubble.

I hope it ends up making them lose a lot of money. I sure as hell won't use them again. They can get stuffed to get any fees on my regular families, we're going off the app.

I'm fuming.

Monopoly of childcare in London? Really?

Yes. Really. I explain in a previous post why

@GoingRoundInOvals my temper and attitude are just fine.

They're not actually, so I suggest you deal with that.
You sound aggressive and unpleasant.

I wish people actually try to read and understand what I am trying to say rather than piling up, policing my emotions and finding new ways to tell me I am rude, unlikeable, probably a terrible nanny and I don't deserve to be a nanny.

I am pregnant and Bubble has made the career I chose impossible to live from. I am pregnant and panicking. I can't affors to not work. And the only jobs available at a decent rate are some 50 or 60 hours a week job I am really sought after but I don't want to do because I'll have to leave my babies to go look after other people children all day and pay for someone else to look after my children. And all people on her can do is snark at me and judge me.

People being condescending and telling me that what the app does, even if they never heard of them, is just fine. When parents realise there is a lack of nannies, they'll wonder why...

It's not just me, it is every nanny around me.

You came on here, ranting and raving about an app that many of us have never heard of op.

then got aggressive and telling posters to fuck off when people replied.

that way of doing things is never going to get you far or make people understand or listen to what you’re trying to say.

Yessiryessirthreebagsfull · 26/03/2024 13:38

Yes, and I am a loving patient and very good nanny.

But you just try being condescending to teachers, TFL enlloyees, or farmers like ypu all are tp nannies when they try to explain why their careers are being fucked up by a conpany and see how well they react.

Nannies always have to just suck it up,stop complainingand "be happy they are paid to play with legos all day".

@GoingRoundInOvals · Today 13:05

thirdly if you want to become a nanny properly, then get the qualifications and charge accordingly, privately

Actually the poster above was saying if you want to be be a proper nanny, then you should train as one - they were not being condescending to Nannies at all

Stichintime · 26/03/2024 14:23

I don't know any career nannies who use bubble, or are you a career nanny and ad hoc nanny? I tend to think career nannies work with one family, and the next job is always progression from the last.

Yessiryessirthreebagsfull · 26/03/2024 14:24

You know what, enjiy putting me down and completely ignoring everything I said.

Thanks a lot for the support everyone.

You've come on, and basically been really rude to people - if you'd put it slightly differently, then you would have got different replies

I'm feeling really frustrated and disappointed. I've been a loyal user of their service for years and have always valued the convenience they offered in finding babysitting opportunities. However, I was shocked to learn today that sitters will now be charged a 25% fee (or 20% for super sitters) for every first sit.

It feels like a slap in the face, especially considering that many of the jobs booked through the app are one-time gigs. Bubble has been my primary source of babysitting jobs, and I've always made sure to report my earnings and pay taxes accordingly.

I sincerely hope this decision doesn't backfire on them financially. As for me, I won't be using their services again. I refuse to subject my regular families to these excessive fees, so we'll be arranging our babysitting arrangements outside of the app from now on.

Yessiryessirthreebagsfull · 26/03/2024 13:56

@AnotherDelphinium Accusing me of potentially being abusive to children is way out of order.

You are all ignoring the fact that Bubble ensured that it had the monopoly of childcare in London then drops a 25% fee on first sits (the majority). As I said, there are barely any jobs left to get any other way than going through Bubble.

If farmed complained that ONE conpany had the monopoly of selling their product, lowered their salary through a legal loop then hit them with a 25% fee, no one would tell them "tough luck". But when it is nannies, then who cares, right. How does she even dare being angry or horrified that her livelihood is threatened.

This and worse absolutely IS happening in farming, particularly dairy farming.

Of all the careers you could have chosen to try and use as a comparator farming probably was one of the worst!

How many nannies do you know and how many would tell you if they used Bubble?

Every nanny I know (a lot, I see them at playgroups and in Facebook groups) use nannies.

I explained that after having a mental breakdown after working 60 hours a week for years (I have been a nanny for over 15 years) I chose to work part time (35 hours) employed and the rest self employed.

Which was fine until Bubble got a monopoly of chidcare jobs, let people hire for under living wage and started to charge insane fees.

I need to find a new part time job butbthere are none (or they are really badly paid) because of Bubble.

I know it can be quite a shock when fees suddenly go up, but I don’t think 25% for a first sit is too bad, I work in a different industry and fee split for this type of app or website tends to be around 20% but presumably with childcare and vetting there are more costs involved on their side
if it’s too much of a fee for you, just throw yourself into marketing, social media etc and try and build up regulars.

I chose it because people empathise with farmers. Nannies? "Though luck, have you tried not struggling to find a job or accepting being badly paid".

I've never seen anyone patronize farmers struggling like people feel confprtable to talk to nannies.

OkPedro · 26/03/2024 14:40

Am I reading it right that people are using a different nanny/babysitter everyday as regular childcare?

FFSNorman · 26/03/2024 14:40

Can you not just charge more to cover the hike?

GoingRoundInOvals · 26/03/2024 14:41

From what I can understand:

the app is primarily to be used for babysitting. Sitters. Ad hoc days, here and there. If some parents are using it to do full time childcare that's up to them, though personally the idea of a revolving door of new random people coming through my door each day / week etc makes me a bit 🤨

You are a nanny (a career nanny I am presuming, not an ad hoc glorified babysitter?). You work PT

So you either find a job share / another PT role with a family, who you grow with, and form that relationship with, as proper nannies do....!, or you have your second PT job as something completely different and just register with a local recruitment company and take a PT office job or equivalent.

It seems that the families who are using bubble as full time permanent year round childcare are not the sort of people who would appreciate a professionally trained nanny in the first place. They are looking for a babysitter. Albeit a long term one. So why are you diminishing your qualifications and experience and fighting out with babysitters when you should be looking for new professional roles?

and as others have pointed out, if you have been on bubble for years and built up lots of families, just contact them directly for heavens sakes and you'll stop having to take on the first sit 25% jobs.

Kisskiss · 26/03/2024 14:45

Can you really replace a regular full time or part time nanny with bubble?? I wouldn’t want to or have the time to be finding a new person to come everyday if I needed regular care?
it would replace the babysitting , but I don’t think it could replace regular nanny work.
25 pct is very high OP, I guess they are doing it as some people get the first sit via them and then jump off app after

OkPedro · 26/03/2024 14:40

Yes, you are reading right.

So many families do. When they post a job, you can see the history of who babysat for them and there is a new one every day. Parents work from home, they don't care anymore. So many families do that.

I am not exagerating when I say that people pay £8/£10 per hour. I can't work at that rate.

I do find some families who pay my rate but it's often a one off. So I still have to pay 20% every time. If I up my rate any more, I won't get any job.

Yes, unfortunately, people can and people do.
